I know the post that you are on about mate, unfortunately it got deleted before I could read your reply to my post on the subject. I’ll say again though that I completely agree on all your points including that KTM will be fine in the long run. I know a few fellow KTM owners including my mate who has a GT that I’m doing Austria with this summer who aren’t as positive and unfortunately are looking to jump ship to other manufacturers. On another note, the Duke is just stunning, it makes me miss my early days of riding bikes from that era, not that they were new then but more than they made up the majority of the used market. To me there is something special about them because they don’t feel as sterile as a modern machine. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t give my 1290 SAS up for anything but I’d love to have a mid 90s to mid 00s superbike in my garage as well.

Yeah you're right! It's a shame people jump ship when times like this hit. It's clear as to why and I don't blame people but it only pushes the brand further into trouble. That's precisely why I love the brand too.. they aren't utterly sterile and perfect! I love that the bikes are just bonkers!

As expected, old man Pierer steps down, the Chinese/Indian partners increase their stake and it works out eventually.
It's going to take a bit longer to rebuild on the retail side though, I suspect. The dealer network's taking (and continues to take) an absolute kicking, and dealers are having to do crazy discounts to clear stock - £13k for a pre-registered SAR anyone? As you alluded to Sam, it's makes £19k for the new one seem rather ambitious, how long before those are getting discounted too?
They've still got some hard yards ahead. Quite liking the new corporate nose on the 1390SAR though.

Hi Sam, great News on the 916 previous owner making contact and all the work that had been done. It's well worth the extra couple of grand you paid to know all this is done, peace of mind that you probably got the best 916 available, anywhere!

Spot on mate! I'm very happy to know all of that and understand why it changed hands etc. Very good of them to put decent work into it

@SamVBikes I agree, you fell on your feet with that one. They can be a money pit if previous owners have skimped on services and parts. I love the 916, just wish I could ride one. I keep looking at Monsters every now and again, I have an itch to scratch! 😂

I'm sure it won't be perfect because it's still a 90s Italian bike but it's as close to it from a mechanical standpoint which is brilliant! You're right though... you do need a back and wrists of steal to ride them regularly

I think for me, KTM need to stop bringing out new bikes every year, because it devalues the current bikes, they should learn off other brands, also this whole cam gate hasn't helped, so maybe, be a bit more helpful with their customers, like other brands do, as for the KTM brand going tits up, well we won't know the outcome until the 25th of this month, but KTM has been down this road before, the Austrian government had to bail them out the last time....the guy who has stepped down from the CEO position, is still the main chairman of the brand..... whatever happens, they need to change the way they are doing things, and aim more to the people who buy their products...

    • @SamVBikes
      @SamVBikes  2 дня назад +3

The way the market over reacts to everything that happens with KTM is a major factor in the issues they have in terms of sales. Pretty sure it was 0.5% of KTM 790 derived models between 2018 and 2020 which were affected by the camshaft issue. I'm sure there were a few that went stray or weren't included in those numbers, but if you listen to the forums, that's every bike ever produced until this current day. People spread misinformation about it when they haven't even researched it. They have started to follow suit with the updates to models too. The SAS hasn't been updated since 2021 besides a few tweaks to switchgear etc.
They definitely aren't a perfect brand but I don't think many are

@@SamVBikes in 2019 I bought a 1290 super duke GT, and it was essentially a good bike, but it did have its faults, but the dealership experience I went through (2 dealers) wasn't very good (crap in fact) with regards to the camgate, it shouldn't have happened, it should have been dealt with straight away, I followed that guy, the guy who is riding around the world on his 790 adventure, in the beginning, it cost him £3500 to fix his bike, because KTM deemed that he didn't get the bike serviced by their dealership, but he bought all the service parts from his KTM and serviced the bike himself, but when he found out that his cam was fooked, KTM told him to do one, that isn't a way to treat you customers, his 790 head had a oil journal misalignment and hardly any oil was getting to one end of the cam, strange how once he showed this that KTM gave him a full refund,
I understand that you're bike is going strong, but I've got pals that had their super dukes bought back by KTM, because they couldn't fix them..... would I buy another probably not..... I've got a 23 plate mt10 and it's not missed a beat, my KTM went wrong within a day and it took my dealer 2 months to fix, helped along by the finance company booting them up the arse weekly....

Yeah I can't argue that the dealer network needs work. Every dealer I've ever been to for work have been brilliant. Services or ordering parts etc but I know people who have had shocking experience. But then again, my experience with Yamaha before was shocking.. overcharging, false information, no help with warranty claims etc. Yamaha who are meant to be untouchable for reliability and service and I would struggle to want to buy one again because of that experience. Regarding the cams, I guess there's an element of the manufacturer not knowing it's their fault until there is a large number of complaints, so if that information isn't getting back to KTM HQ quick enough, it's on that person to fix it until it does. Same thing happened with the GS shaft drives seizing from water ingress for example.. BMW won't believe it's their issue until there have been a number of cases. It's all the same thing and it won't ever stop happening, and unfortunately its the first few people who find out the hard way. They do need to speed up with recognising issues but it's far from just a KTM problem. Join some of the other brand owners groups and you'll see it too. Honda AT and Transalp, Ducati across the range, Royal Enfield etc. They all have issues. Not denying there have been issues and bad experiences but I do try to see it from both sides

    • @grenphelps7455

I hear all these things happening to other brands, but the only brand I've ever had any issues with was KTM, I had a KTM many years before the GT, before KTM went all high tech and that was great, no issues, it's a strange one, I've got customers with ktms and they haven't had any issues, the thing for me with Yamaha is, I've got a brilliant dealership, in fact, the total opposite of your experience 😅, I've had 2 BMW's, no issues at all, I'd have another in a heartbeat, on a different note, that hornet 1000 is very intriguing, don't know whether I'd swap my mt10 for one 🤔 but a bike that did impress me, was the brand new mt09sp, think I'll end up with one, that new quick shifter they have, where you don't need to throttle off on the down shift is genius 👌👌

@@SamVBikes That's only fair if you never had the issue sunk thousands into your bike because KTM's first reaction was fark you. It was the overreacting market that made KTM do the right thing for this small amount of people as they should have from day one. If the market doesn't force companies to do the right thing with our voices and money we will continually be screwed by money hungry company leaders.

I'm confident that I've sold at least 50 bikes for KTM, if not more. I get people constantly messaging saying how they've bought bikes off the back of my content which is great! If I'm going into debt, I'm taking people with me 😂😂
I have to give KTM even more credit for that too... my content is far from brand safe so them trusting me with the Super Duke last year was unbelievable. Got a few other plans with them too when other brands won't even reply to my messages! Even more reason to keep plugging them!

@ that’s there loss and your gain mate I’m sure the other brands will catch on eventually either that or they’re scared there bikes won’t stand up to your testing you know when your pushing it to the limit when the mrs squeals like a school girl 😂 give her credit tho a lot of men wouldn’t have the stomach for it 😂😂😂
