Hevynly1, I, agree that someone dropped the ball on this one, even though it looks like she was reprising her character, Margo Channing because that's all I kept thinking throughout the situation because of the hair style, and the way she wore the furs not to mention the way she smoked her cigarettes. But, nevertheless it left me wanting more. Who doesn't like Bette Davis !? That was a statement not a question by the way.
This is a gem that didn't get the proper recognition it deserved...It's a prime example of being rich without home decor taste. Bette Davis was outstanding in a comedic role... 21:11
Bette Davis was one of the greatest actresses of the 20 th century ! This is another one of her displays of fine acting. There will never be another Bette Davis.
What a cute show. Some drama and comedy combined. Bette could play any role. What a surprise to see Aaron Spelling produced it. I really enjoyed this, thanks.
What an absolutely charming episode. I enjoyed every moment of it. Pure perfection. Bette Davis and Mary Wickes worked together like a well oiled machine. Thanks so much for posting.
I would have loved to watch this as a series. It's refreshing to see Bette in a fun role like this. Sometimes you have to wonder what TV execs are thinking... Wait, they obviously weren't. ;)
Oh why oh why could Bette Davis not get her own TV series ? This great actress tried a few times, but the pilots failed to be picked-up. And this sit-com would have been magnificent. But oh well - why talk about it now ! It was wonderful watching this.
Bette did have a success with a series albeit a short-lived for Bette as she got sick and decided not to resume. It was the 1980s hit series HOTEL. Aaron Spelling (Charlie's Angels) was the producer as he was on this pilot.❤️❤️❤️
Very surprised this wasn't picked up. I'm sure it would have been syndication gold. The cast Bette Davis, Mary Wickes, Ed Begley, Dub Taylor and a very young James Stacey. Wow! Thanks so much for posting this.
I loved this!!! I'm a huge fan of Bette Davis and it would be wonderful to see her in a series like this! We would have all of those reruns to enjoy now.
There was speculation that she would star in a spin-off of Perry Mason. She did 2 episodes as a high-powered lawyer once when Raymond Burr fell ill. She was very good in the role - as usual.
Bette was lovely. So full of life. Her laugh was wonderful. I wish I could cultivate all the positive strengths she had and put them in myself. Thank you for sharing this gem with us!!!
Bette was great at comedy! If you 've never seen it, there is a 1937 film comedy 'It's Love I'm After' with Bette, Olivia de Havilland and Leslie Howard. It is very witty and funny. Never could understand why it isn't more well known.
I guess it is in the eye of the beholder for I have been reading the comments and the majority seem to love her in this. You are the only one so far I read does not.
No one smoked a cigarette like Bette! Loved her first drag at 2:55...and the way she held it in her mouth for a couple seconds before blasting it out! *LOVEEE* Bette...she was fierce! XD
Bette was considered a great dramatic actress and I guess the producer of these episodes did not feel she would be accepted They definitely underestimated!
But at least half the dramatic roles she performed had dialogue of such great wit, she was still funny - ALL ABOUT EVE, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE, THE BRIDE CAME C.O.D.
All this moaning and groaning about Bette's TV's after her "Golden Years". This is classic of the period. She dealt with it without difficulty and kept it light. Charming.
My words exactly, The Feud series wanted to point out how sad it was that Bette was forced to do television, but Miss Davis comes off as a woman who takes pride in her work no matter what, and had she been given the chance to carry a television that would've lasted a few years, I'm sure she would have jumped at the chance with optimism and yearning to produce good work.
I hope the network executives who turned down this as a series lost their jobs...this waa so humorous and enchanting. Bette Davis as a interior decorator who breezes into peoples lives and not only fixes up their homes but fixes their lives and relationship...sort of like a heavy drinking, chain-smoking, wise-cracking fairy godmother LOL
"Now you wait just one back-slapping, hand-clapping minute!" Bette was so funny, this so should have been picked up. It was better than a lot of the contemporary stuff that did.
Bette must have felt insulted that this pilot wasn't picked up. They should have given it at least one season and see what happens. I would have watched it 😂.
Well, personally, I’m extremely insulted she hadn’t had this or any other show picked up. I mean, she was ALREADY a living legend then. What could it have hurt?
Yesss...and also a kinda reference to "What Ever Happen3ed To Baby Jane" at the end, with the sandcastle/playing in the sand...Loved this pilot show..Bette owned it! :D
I got this on DVD.bette Davis is drop dead gorgeous looking in this.she has splendid comic timing.she is a delight.ed begley is a perfect match for her.
@@matildadhumxoxo5801 Yes, the second film you mentioned is quite well-known. There was even a poorly conceived remake for television of "Baby Jane" starring real-life sisters, the British actresses Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave. If you enjoyed "Baby Jane," I wholeheartedly recommend you watch the FX mini-series "Feud: Bette & Joan," which is all about the legendary feud between Davis and her "Baby Jane" co-star, actress Joan Crawford, during the period just before, during an after the film was being made.
@@buffalopatriot I love The Bride Came C.O.D. Bette should’ve done more films like it. Probably if It Happened One Night didn’t exist first it’d been a big hit. She’s so pretty there too. She’s so cute with that scene on the roof.
Thank you so much for this post. Had no idea that such a show was ever made. Just can't understand why this wasn't picked up by one of the networks. With BD as the star they would have had no problem getting A-list guest. Like Ed Bagley as the judge. Wonderful show & would have just gotten better MyDaMnWoRd❗😎🔫
These Golden Age actresses wanted nothing more than to keep working, I think. Bette Davis, Joan Blondell, Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Crawford and so many others keep popping up on shows like this. (I think we'd see Harlow on vintage TV too, if she'd lived.) Every one of these women still had a lot to offer. Especially Bette. I wish the movie studios had realized this. My God, they weren't decrepit! Bette looks good in these. And that shouldn't be a consideration anyway. Movies are stories, and stories can have all kinds of people in them - including "women of a certain vintage".
This film is carried by two giganticums, Bette Davis and that wonderful Producer extraordinare, Aaron Spelling. "Mr. Spelling found success in almost every genre, including Westerns (his first series, in 1959, was "Johnny Ringo"), police shows ("Starsky and Hutch," "SWAT," "T. J. Hooker"), family drama ("Family," a rare critical success for Mr. Spelling), escapist anthology ("Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island"), glossy adult soap opera ("Dynasty") and youth-oriented soaps ("90210" and "Melrose Place"). For the most part his shows were as despised and denigrated by critics as they were loved by audiences. The New Yorker once labeled him a "schlock merchant." Mr. Spelling himself memorably described his oeuvre as "mind candy." And to think that this little boy, a son of a tailor, a Russian Jewish immigrant, was born in Dallas, Texas, at the age of eight, psychosomatically lost the use of his legs due to trauma caused by constant anti-semitic bullying from his schoolmates, and was confined to bed for a year, making a full recovery, dying from the effects of a stroke at the age of 83 in 2006 after giving us a prolific Legacy of such diverse and quality entertainment...and of course, making a packet of money for himself. His first wife was actress, Carolyn Jones, the original Morticia Addams in the television series, the Addams Family. Carolyn Jones had no children and died at the age of 53 in 1983 from colon cancer. She had married 4 times.

Well, makeup and lighting does wonders.
Someone dropped the ball on this. This show had a lot of potential to be great! How could it not with Bette and Mary Wickes?!
Hevynly1,

Bette did this pilot 12 years after ALL ABOUT EVE but she looked so beautiful and glamorous and every inch of MARGO CHANNING. Fabulous! ❤️❤️❤️

This was a very endearing program, it's kinda nice seeing Betty Davis outside the comfort zone of a drama movie.
Bette, no sweat, but Ms.Davis hated it when you spelled her name with a y... (Kimmy Hawk)
I would have watched this for sure, Bette has great comedic timing.
I always heard this was the show that should've been. I agree. For the times it was excellent. Bette's comedic timing is superb.
Bette Davis was an original and unique actress. She was looking good and had a great smile.
Super delight to watch and listen to Bette's remarks delivered as only she can. AND hey, she was square dancing so smooth and graceful. Thank you !
She squared danced just like she did in A Stolen Life!
I love James Stacy. What a great actor he was and his fans still love him today.
I've never seen or heard about this. Had no idea!!! True Betty Davis as you think she would/could be. Loved it!!!!
This is a side of Betty I've never seen before but love 💕,shes so funny. Too bad there aren't more of these! Ed Begley does a fine job also.👍

Wow! Absolutely captivating from beginning to end...the best thing I've seen in a very long time! This pilot had all the polished charm in the world!
I had forgotten how tiny of a woman she was. She was always “larger than life”. Love her laugh.
What a great actress, never be another like her ,
