I just bought the 4088. Thank you for the info. Especially the actual range you got. I would like to add that the channels that have the hi, lo modes are gmrs channels and the channels without are FMR mode and are powered at .5 watts as per FCC rules. Thanks again
The codes don't alter the frequency, it sets a personal receive code and keeps your radio sequlched untill it rears the correct digital code encoded in your transmission and allows the radio to let you hear it.
Robert O'Dwyer i have not verified the voltage but it is a micro USB available on the radio..I’ll have to find the charger because I’ve only used the base... good point... if you verified let me know... thanks..
Bulldog Brower antenna not removal and they never gave an actual transmit power rather just the stated range. I think allowable limits change depending on country, and of course channel selection.. if I find more info I can post or if you have that would be great. I’ve been told .5 watts for the fcc regulated channels.
Where can I find the manual for this. I lost mine and can't find one online. I need to figure out how to set up the headphone mic. I can't figure out how to make it work on these for the life of me
basically just plug in earbuds.. Voice Operated Transmission Your radio is equipped with a user selectable Voice Operated Transmitter (VOX) that can be used for automatic voice transmissions. The VOX feature is designed to be used with a headset with a microphone. Transmission is initiated by speaking into the microphone instead of pressing PTT. To select VOX level: 1. Press MENU/ repeatedly until the vox icon and the VOX sensitivity level (oF, 1-5) blink. 2. Press CH ▲ / CH ▼ to change the VOX sensitivity levels. Use level 1 to increase sensitivity to voice in normally quiet environments, and use a higher level to reduce undesired activation in very noisy environments.
As far as whether or not these radios are waterproof - they are. My GMR 5088 Took a swim in Chicagon Lake and sunk to the bottom (a depth of about 4 ft.). It took a few minutes to find it, but once we did it was a if the whole incident never happened. The radio worked perfectly. But the range is a whole other story. 50 miles... yeah, right. I can't even get mine to touch each other at two miles....
Thanks for the comment, lol, I personally did not want to test the theory.. so thanks for the comment, one thing to remind everyone, be sure the rubber cover on the top for the USB and headset is closed and sealed in wet conditions... good day to you!

the thing I love about these radios that you're showing they could be charged with cell phone charger and everybody's got one of those

@@kd_enterprise3404 I've tried it with mine
You didn’t mention the two most important GMRS features, what is the transmit power wattage, and is the antenna removable ?

Try the BTech GMRS V1, it’s a full 5 watts with removable antenna.
What if mine didnt come with a manual
Google it using name and model

On Uniden's website they have it listed as water resistant when you do a search for water proof it doesn't even come up.
On the Canadian Tire site it does say waterproof... i'm not sure how they can claim that... we both know it's not waterproof..
