1. She says the autumn in Vienna is marvelous. She described how the trees change their colour and turning yellow and red. She also noticed that there are many warm sunny days.
2. He gave, as he said, a small gift for her. It was a picture which touched Claire.
3. I consider that he wanted to say Claire the way how she appeared in his life. Claire was in a trouble and didn't look well but it was by accident so Eric found her like an angel of his fate.
4. He behaved quite politely. He didn't even hit on her once.

1. Claire says that the fall in Austria directpy in Vienna is just marvelous. The trees are turning yellow and red, but there are a lot of warm sunny days. She understands Erik and his wish to study art there, because the landscapes are really picturesque and if Claire were a painter,she would stay in Vienna and create paintings...
2. Erik pleased Claire by saying that he prepared a small special gift for her and then presented it. He painted a picture for her as she inspired him. It displayed woman on the bench by the river. The woman reminded Claire a little bit. Red and yellow trees were reflected in the wster. The woman seemed to be sad but a ray of light shined right at her and made her look like an angel.
3. She inspired him, so that he painted a woman reminding Clairw. When a person inspires us, we definitely feel something for them. He painted as a brooding woman, it means that he considers her as an intelligent person and finds her interesting...
4. Erik behaved very politely. He didn't hit on her once, but she could see sparkles in his eyes and she keep guessing whether he had crush on her or not

Here are my answers to Unit 110 questions
1. Claire says that autumn in Austria is just wonderful. Trees dress up in festive attire were turning yellow and red and there are many sunny days.
2. Eric visited Claire and bought her a bouquet of flowers but most importantly he drew a picture for her a woman on a bench by the river who looked like Claire.
3. In my view, the main meaning of the picture is that this woman isn't indifferent to Eric, she inspired him to write the picture and for Claire, this is a positive outlook for the future.
4. Eric behaved very politely, but it was very important for Claire to know if he was in love with her or not.
Claire could see sparkles in his eyes every time she caught his gaze.

Спасибо! У меня вопрос He said I inspired him, so he painted a picture for me. В этом предложении используется past simple - I inspired, he painted
1)можно было б сказать He said I had inspired him, so he had painted a picture?
2)т.е.мы даже несмотря на то что действие I inspired произошло раньше того момента когда он это говорит, мы можем давать их через past simple просто как факт который произошел ранее, без привязки к моменту повествования, верно?

Но смысл будет немного другой. Если как у вас, то я вдохновила его сначала, а потом он писал картину. Если как у меня, то смысл - я в целом вдохновляла его (и в прошлом, и в момент речи), и он написал картину.
2) да, можем. В разборе правил past simple я об этом говорила и ссылалась на учебники
слова if и whether часто используют как аналоги русскому "ли" но как понять какую из них ставить ?
Оба, так как это синонимы, разницы нет.
I'd say "I didn't know what to say as no one HAD ever painted anything for me". Is it right?
можно оставить has, ведь это правда до сих пор.
