My mother is not a fan of videogames but she heard this song and she told me that it is a song that represents the end of something, the calm after the storm, she is absolutely right.
what i really like about the parish's theme is that it sounds so *final* like this is what the past campaigns have been leading up to; it's the final obstacle before the survivors finally escape for good
Personally, I think this song fits the entire game perfectly. It’s sad, but not too dark and creepy and perfect for its non-horror atmosphere. And the menu music for L4D1 fits it since it’s more of a dark game with a sad story ending.
This theme signifies the final, the inevitable conclusion. 10 years later & I’m still questioning what happens to these survivors, did they find safety/ paradise or did the military line them up against a wall....
But why would the militars rescue them in the first place only to kill them later? For me they saved the survivors to make some experiments with the group, because as you might know, they were chargering the virus.
@@ramondias3037 reason they might be shot is....well they already murdered tons of non-infected (supposedly carriers) in the same campaign; the parish, why any different now? Even nick and coach comment on it when they see corpses of them on the 2nd chapter after leaving the park.
@@celeb-seventeen I understand what you're saying, but for me the militaries wouldn't rescue them only to kill the survivors later. It would be easier to leave them at the bridge and let the explosion do the job.
@@ramondias3037 yeah. why would the military waste a helicopter and its crew to save 4 survivors to just kill them. They probably have some sort of plan to use them either to form an army of carrier to fight against the zombies or to find a cure.

Still gives me goosebumps when I load up the game. And the fact that this was the first thing I heard when I opened the game after 6 years was just so nostalgic
I love this theme the most cause it seems to capture the true devastation of the situation of the zombie apocalypse. The real sense of abandonment of it all. This theme is perfect, just how slow and almost soft and dreadful all at the same time.
I remember when the music released I suggested this to my band mates at school so glad I did :). and also we practiced on this for weeks on our trumpets at our houses.
I just want to imagine that some musicians were infected and instead of killing them, the team was just like "Ahh, they're fine" and left them to listen to their music
The Parish. i find that this piece of music tells you that the end is near, you still have one chance at escaping, after all the suffering you witnessed.
La musica encaja perfectamente con el capitulo, ya que hace sentir esa sensación de que es el final de que solo hay una opurtunidad, y que si la arruinas esta todo perdido
Couldn't agree more. The first time I heard this music at the menu screen and saw the gritty background with wandering zombies, It definitely put me in *that* mood. Very chilling.
i used to just sit in the main menu listening to this absolute masterclass of a main menu in the game when i was too scared to leave the rooftop of dead center lol.
All the versions of the theme are so good. But this one sounds "final" with the lonely and melancholic brass instruments. It feels like a funeral. Gives me chills.
The main reason The Parish's menu theme sounds so depressing is that, New Orleans is such a lively city with people all over despite the fact that the buildings aren't as lively. Its just extremely depressing when the main part of New Orleans is taken away, the people.
Hearing this in other difficulties usually mean a brain blasting party but...hearing this in expert chapter 1 of Last Stand at the forest section means that someone is getting incapped
I like to think that after the survivors were rescued by the millitary they found a cure by using the survivors immune blood and the world was restored to normal. Maybe the survivors all lived in a big house together after that.
they're not immune, they're carriers, which means they carry the disease, but show no symptoms. Seeing all the uninfected dead bodies in the Parish campaign, the survivors were most likely killed. Though why would the military rescue them in the first place is a bit of a mystery, maybe they recruited them in the zombie killing forces or something. Idk i just really hope they're alive
Last time I saw my grandmother, she asked me if I was still a praying man. I said: "Yes ma'am". And she said: "Well then, pray harder... ...because it ain't working..."
it is exactly what it makes me feel, the last death wish of 4 people who have almost tasted death, fighting like predators trying to survive with helplessness and devastation.
RIP to all those people who armed themselves against incoming horde of zombies while military aren't allow refugees to use guns and used deadly forces :(

A Parish is a county in Louisiana or a local church with its field of activity. It is also a play on the word perish, which means to die.
So it's the chapter is called "The Die"
So that's why the music sounds exactly like the music you would find in a goddamn funeral
