      Waiting for the Cure...and it's fine. We have survived long enough under harsh conditions to through everything away just because we had another disappointment or failure. Millions of people are surviving each and every day to have something to eat, fresh water or just to live another day and if we love, for instance, sunsets, we will try to make it to see another one even if there's a storm outside. The sun always comes.

      It really is a great exposition of these fuzzy edges of different conditions which are usually hard to understand even to therapists.
      I would like to add BPD sounds to me like a box people, especially for women with severe cptsd, for any kind of traumatic past that doesn't fit exactly like a piece in a puzzle in any other category. There's also a common belief that links it to NPD, which I don't agree.
      Anyway, I just missed the dissotiation part that might ocurred in these disorders without getting into DID because most people with cptsd suffer with memory losses, some kind of amnesia and scaping from the body and the environment.
      Thanks 😊

    I believe i was born with a hypersensitive brain. I was very neurotic and anxious as a young child. I was hand flapping by 6 years old, while using my imagination intensely. So, i think i was born autistic. I didn't experience physical or sexual abuse, but i did experience the contrasts of some caregivers being very loving and overly spoiling me, while others emotionally abused and neglected me. So, by age 12 i was clearly displaying bpd symptoms, and i was diagnosed borderline at age 14. Clearly i also have cptsd from my upbringing as well. I believe that if i had not been born with an autistic brain, then i might not have developed bpd or cptsd, or maybe only mild cptsd from my environment. My brain primed me to develop cluster b issues and severe cptsd.

    • @edinbrodlic4564
      @edinbrodlic4564 2 месяца назад +9

      @@understandablepodcast i think so yes, i think all of the diagnosis matter.
      For example having cptsd and other conditions still means you have a functional sense of self, covered with trauma and attachment trauma, so doing nervous system regulation should be the key.
      If one for example has bpd - it means there might not be a functional sense of self underneath, and one may choose to work on different modalities.
      If one has bpd + adhd and cptsd it may be very difficult to apply dbt (gold standard) because one needs mindfulness and executive functioning to apply dbt.
      If one has bpd and adhd but not cptsd, one could get a lot of benefit from stimulant medication alone, as the nervous system isnt aggravated by cptsd.
      I think we desperately need medical personnel who are capable of figuring out which of these issues started, when, and then figure out a best course of action.
      Depending on where you are in the world, the medical staff has different levels of expertise in this field and may misdiagnose (lot of europe for example doesnt even treat adhd).

  • @BipolarCourage
    @BipolarCourage Месяц назад +1

    "Neurodivergent" is more an opt-in sociopolitical label. It's apparently so broad & value that it can include migraines & dementia. Also doesn't need to meet criteria for any diagnosis.
    Fans of the labels "neurodivergent" & "neurodiversity" say "neurodiversity" applies to a population ie everyone. Whereas "neurodivergent" is different from "neurotypical".
    I don't find this label to be useful, especially as wants & needs end up clashing. Where relevant, I would rather say my diagnoses & features which affect me.
    Complex trauma is not necessarily cPTSD. My psychologist said I have complex trauma as more than one main trauma plus tangled with bipolar disorder. There is a misconception that PTSD is only one traumatic event. My primary diagnosis is PTSD & there are two main clinicially defined traumatic events.
    cPTSD is like combination of features of PTSD & borderline personality disorder.

    Can narcissistic abuse in an adult relationship cause CPTSD?

    • @understandablepodcast
      @understandablepodcast  2 месяца назад +6

      That is a great question! I would say yes.
      Usually it's re-traumatizing and opening old wounds from the past.
      If you are someone with a secure attachment style, who had a great childhood, barely any past trauma and then meet a narcissist and don't understand early enough that this person is hurting and abusing you, and you still stay within that relationship, then yes.
      But as a securely attached person, usually you would break up asap when you recognize narcissistic behavior going on.

    If someone threatened you but the threat didn t happen and maybe the person apologized does that count for criteria A ptsd

    • @understandablepodcast
      @understandablepodcast  2 месяца назад +7

      Hi Lvy, thanks for your question. Trauma is not about what happened or if someone apologized or not.
      It's about your personal perception of the things that happened and about the wounds that these perceptions caused in you.

    • @Lyrielonwind
      @Lyrielonwind 2 месяца назад

      What counts is more the actions than the words but, of course, if threatening is used as a pattern it doesn't matter if they apologized or not.
      Forget about labels that won't help you if the relationship makes you miserable in any way.
      Healthy people have their downs too but they work it out between both of them without none of them being submissive to the other or giving up their rights, needs and purposes in order to keep a relationship.
      Relationships, healthy ones, are about evolving and sharing life along with the chosen person to make both of them better, not worse so, it's about freedom and care, not control.

    This may fit or nake sense to your experience, but not the general sequence. Victimization is first in autistics and hsp just from experience/process of sensory environs. With cPTSD and BPD it is also victimization, but more interpersonal. I've never met an autistic who didn't also have relationship bullying pretty close to onset of life.
    You claim it is some chosen mental distorting process that leads(is that your favorite term??) to inducing victimization to said misfit. It doesn't make sense. It is the usual victim blaming.
    You also say so.e autistics have no issue with socializing which cancels the reality that some autistics can mask! Frosting perception is not reality. Autism also is a 'spiking profile' that is not the fixed state you describe.
