I like how every cartoon back then when a animated show first starts the animators put like 100% effort in the characters movement and expressions and i appreciate it hella even as a kid cuz as time progresses like the characters become less expressive and a lil more stiff or jus slow

Yes, it’s probably because in the pilot, Mordecai didn’t say “let’s be responsible”. So Mordecai’s character was not more responsible than Rigby’s character at the time the pilot was made. If you read the summary of regular show, it says something along the lines of “Mordecai tries to be responsible, but is often led astray by his immature pal Rigby, who is without fear or shame and has no boundaries” I believe this is why they switched characters for that line.

I love the use of smears that the first season used. Its more cartoony and seems like more thought and effort was put into the animation. The expressions are also great of course and the characters dont always look flat (2:10 for example which makes Mordecai look more 3D because his head is at an angle)
Yeah, I'm taking a lot of inspiration from Regular Show and Adventure time for my comic with the writing but also taking inspiration from stuff like Dexter's Lab and Ren & Stimpy for the animation because it actually looks more natural and three dimensional whereas flash animation is kinda lifeless and stiff, I know it's easier but I personally care as much about art as writing.

It is interesting how they made the pilot an origin story, but then decided not to use it for the first episode. I guess they figured the dynamics would work better if the characters had already known each other for years, which is how most sitcoms work.

The one on the left was a reanimated pilot of an unreleased Flash Test of Regular Show. The full reanimated version is out there on the internet and can technically be considered as the earliest episode of the series. Can't say the same for the Flash Test, sadly. In season 2, they reused the pilot; colors were added saturation to fit the current artstyle's, more animation was added, some clips of it were slowed down or entirely removed. I don't know why they skipped its existence until the season after 1.
