Thank you very much for the great content you put out. This video is the ideal starting place for new cube drafters and builders. Also, i was wandering what the place of more specific archetypes is when building a cube (like boros wildfire, simic opposition and the like)
Love the list. I personally love morph for blue white. Its a great mechanic that allows blue to draw pass on their own turns once morphs are played. Since morph is instant speed and sometimes you just dont have enough instant speed cards to justifying passing without playing anything. My newb cube uses morph and flash cards in blue white.
Thanks! I started after the khan's block so missed the joys of morph - I can certainly see how it would be a benefit in a lower powered cube and that alongside flash sounds like a great deck/archetype to play! Thanks for sharing :)
Hey man love your content, you've helped a ton along the road of me building my own cube. One question though, do you ever plan on making more Inside the Cube: Archetypes videos? I was really a fan of those and would love to see your input on more archetypes, mainly storm as it's one I've really struggled with in my unpowered vintage cube. But even seeing your input on other high powered archetypes like artifacts matter and such would be enjoyable as well
Brilliant video! Currently building my uncommon only cube at the moment. I have a question about how you make these videos - how do you make those slick graphics when you're showing off the cards? Thanks!
thnx for the great content. I'm also in the middle of building my cubes where I go for the creature types me and my friends don't play often. Over the whole cube I have 5 color humans and each color has it's own creature type. Blue has wizards, white has birds, green has beast, black has rats and red has giants, artifacts is mainly mana fixing but also myr tribe and for colorles I have eldrazi. With the spells I will focus on what the color wants to do and get everything to work together as much as possible. My idea is to stay away from the pauper powerhouses like Delver and Kiln Fiend and so on . Next to thisI am making a second cube. And that's unstable, unhinged and unglued. From all sets I will put in just one card so all the cards will be in the cube (except the cards that you have to rip apart to play). This is where I have the question if that is good for a cube or do I have to have playsets so it will be easier to make a deck. It will be at least a fun night with the unsets. Thanks again it really helps having a bit of a guideline to follow in building a cube.
That does sound like an interesting cube construction and to be honest, that is a great reason to build a cube with cards you don't normally play. Glad to hear I've been of some help with the videos to building a cube. As for the un-cube, I wouldn't be hesitant to add in multiple copies of certain cards - or the ones that have multiple different printings. Augment as a mechanic might need a few more host cards than just 1 of each to make it work as an example. There are a few good ones built up on cubetutor which I'd recommend taking a look at! Overall uncube's are awesome fun!
First of all AWESOME video!!! I was looking for this for ages! and second I was wondering if you could expand this for the shards, wedges and Other tribal/creature combinations (the Innistrad tribes and/or Ixalan tribes) and lastly do you perhaps have Patreon because ur doing a really fine job of teaching ppl this magnificient game called Magic the Gathering! Keep up the goodwork
Thank you for the comment, I really do appreciate that a lot! If you have any further questions id be more than happy to answer them :) I do have a patreon bud, it's www.patreon.com/LifeBeginsAt20 I've gone into archetypes in a series called inside the cube on the channel, which will be getting expanded once this pauper cube build a long series has completed. This can certainly be expanded into tribes too. Thank you for the suggestion!
I was wondering something, are you gonna make Gruul Aggro/Ramp? Ps. Please do tribes! because I really love ur content and you explain it all really well!
I will be continuing the inside the cube series in the future and will certainly be trying to cover everything from traditional archetypes to tribes and so on. Glad to hear that there is interest for more :)
Life Begins At 20 I’m still deciding. I need to take time to go through my Masters (15/17/Iconic) before I check out older cards in my collection. I’ve mostly got cards from 2012-present. I was thinking about making a small 360 cube and then adding to it. Or do you think it is easier to cull after amassing all the possible cards?
I originally made a 720 cube for my first one and by cutting down to 540 I really improved the average power level. Maybe look to make something around 405/450 as a middle ground and try keeping to that size. The video in the series about cube sizes might be able to help decide which would be best for you and your playgroup. I found it easier to cut, but I know others that have made it smaller and added, so try both methods and see which works for you :) Your playgroup will end up helping telling you during playtesting which cards do and don't work too!
Thank You so much for this video. I´m building my cube right now but I like more Sealed than draft and I´ll be playing at 4 players max. or 1v1. Any suggestions on building a singleton or a multiple copies cube and the size or the cube?
All the information you’d need in terms of size would be in the video I’ve done called what size should your cube be. I broke it all down for all of the different 1v1 formats (which you can expand with more players easily enough) and how many cards you’d need. You’ll find a sweetspot number there that suits the style of play. Once you’ve got that then its just a case of deciding what kind of cube you’d like to build and working on what you want each colour to do. If after watching that video on the size you’re still stuck, I can give you some more pointers or potentially can do a video on a specific question for you.
Definetely useful guidelines for me. I like planning everything I do, but sometimes I don't have a plan how to... build a plan:) By the way, is it necessary to support both mono-colour and two-colour combinations in cube or it's also possible to run only mono-/two- coloured ones?
+Steplagent haha! It's not necessary. You could certainly make a mono coloured cube or two coloured. That's the beauty of it. These are just guidelines bud you can do whatever you want :)
Noticed that some of the guilds only have 1 archetype. Is this a product of it being a pauper cube, not wanting certain guilds to be too powerful, or something else? Follow up question: have you found guilds with 2 archetypes to be more or less powerful than guilds with just 1 archetype? Intuitively I would guess that having more options would make guilds with 2 supported archetypes more powerful.
It depends how well the two archetypes play together. If they aren't related or don't blend well, it can make drafting those colors less synergistic because it's harder to get support for both styles. For example having a Voltron or make one creature huge archetype might not combine with a token strategy because prioritizing cards for one might not leave enough that play the other style. On the other hand a graveyard value and sacrifice strategy can be more complimentary because you can sacrifice creatures that do things in the graveyard.
Love the archetypes, they are very similar to my cube. www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/44244 This is my cube, any tips? Or any cards i should add to help with the archetypes?
Just had a quick browse through, but from my initial look at the cube I thought of the following: In white, some great cards that might be worth looking at are Palace Sentinels, Custodi Squire and Battle Screech. Borrowed Grace may well be a great cantrip too for the tokens theme. For the fliers in blue there are a couple I think would be able to make a big impact. Spellstutter Sprite, Spiketail Drakeling, Aven Surveyor and Cloudfin raptor would be interesting additions. The first two allow extra counterspells for blue that your opponent will have to play around, whilst the others two are pretty solid. I'd also look at adding a couple more creatures in green with reach to help them against the abundance of fliers. Deadly recluse and Sentinel Spider or Bitterbow Sharpshooters would be some nice additions there. I'll give it a draft when I get back from work.
Life Begins At 20 this is great. There is one or two cards that need to be added but im not updating the cube until i get the physical cards. The only card i probably won't add that you suggested is Battle Screech but that is because of aesthetics. Thanks for the help and i always love watching your videos
These are so very helpful. As a complete newb and never-built-a-cube-beginner these videos are ever helpful

It is certainly on the list of things to do so don't worry, they will be coming back once the Cube build-a-long series is completed!
Great video Mark!!!
Thank you! I'm glad to see that you enjoyed it and hopefully found it useful!
Man I miss your content :( how come you don't upload any more?
There will be a return - working on a few things for a slight rebrand at the moment but I'll be releasing videos again from next week!
Brilliant video! Currently building my uncommon only cube at the moment. I have a question about how you make these videos - how do you make those slick graphics when you're showing off the cards? Thanks!
I use a piece of software called after effects to do that. Glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful!

You're welcome! Thank you for the comment, what kind of cube are you building or have built?

Great video!
Thank you! Do you have a cube yourself?
I made an Artifact Cube following the advices by the Professor and a Pauper Cube after finding your tutorials. ^_^
Artifact cube's are really cool - how's it working out for you?
All players have enjoyed drafting it. There's always room for more balancing.

+Steplagent Glad you're enjoying it bud, means a lot!
What are the pieces of art this guy uses in the background like the big tree for example
What software did you use to make this video? It looks great!
Thank you Ashley, I edit the video on premiere pro and go all of the graphic work in after effects.
@@LifeBeginsAt20 I am very impressed. Thank you for the response!
Not a problem at all and thank you for your kind words. I really do appreciate it!
Nice, thanks
+George Murphy you're welcome! Published a little earlier than I wanted but hope you found it useful!
