The books are: 1. Jiu-Jitsu University by Saulo Ribeiro 2. Drill to win - Andre Galvao 3. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Techniques by Jean Jacques Machado Thanks man!!!
Is there a recommendation for 6-7 year olds to learn basic drills? I am trading my grandson and would love any recommendations… Big OSS! Thank you for sharing the love
This was my first book back in 2003 I think. It´s a little outdated now (compared to BJJ University) but it was a great help when I initiallly started.
I just got the first book you mentioned. I love how it is broken up visually on the page edges with belt color. Makes it easy to flip to certain areas. So far the best info from it has been to just survive, survive, survive. Trying to.
'Jujitsu' by Renzo Gracie and John Danaher. Covers a lot of the history and philosophy of the grappling arts prior to delving into technique. Presents a lot of the concepts you'll hear Danaher talk about in his online videos. Great book for the mental game of Jiu-Jitsu.
Zen Jiu Jitsu Beyond Rolling White to Blue by Oliver Staark is a great book for those who are new to BJJ and are quite confused like I was. When I got it I had trained BJJ for only a month and now I'm rereading it after having trained for a year and there's so many great things in here.
jiu jitsu university is the whispered "you got to get this book" among the white belts at my school (and I'm one of them). I also got "21 Immutable Principles" and I dug up my old copy of "secrets of judo". I will look for the other ones you mentioned, thanks!
Thank you for the advice. I have ordered some of these. Hopefully these will help make my couple of training classes a week more efficient. I have the full life going on right now with family, work, etc.... Sometimes making it to class is the victory.
Saulos book is great, the main focus changes from section to section and it is described in excellent detail. Since I am bigger into the Self Defense aspect I also like The Master Text by Helio and Rorion Gracie. Tie for 3rd of Royces Self Defense book with Charles Gracie, and the Renzo and Royler book, that's the one I have had the longest, bought it the month it came out.
thanks for the book reviews , i love martial arts books, my 2 fav bjj books, is - submit everyone-the guerrilla jiu jitsu files field manual ( dave Cammarillo) and then one of my all time favs BJ pens brazilian jiu jitsu : the closed Guard (Book Of Knowledge) i love bj pens bjj style i wish he made more books..
Gracie combatives. lol On RUclips there is an instructional video about self defense techniques made by Helio Gracie himself. There is also an instructional series of Brazilian luta livre (that came from catch wrestling).
I've heard great things about Jiu-Jitsu University book. Especially for the starting out white belts like me. Your video just further velifies what I've heard. Thanks for the great video. I'll have to pick me up a copy of it. I'm gonna check out Jean's book too. As always I get great info from your videos, thanks.
Professor @chewjitsu, I have a question. Love your content and videos. Preface scenario: lets say I'm not into competitions as much as the popular professors in IBJJF and in the future i look to opening up a school or a small place to train BJJ. Question: with the statement "those who can't do teach, and those who can do...do " how does one make it/break it in the BJJ industry without much championships under their belt?
I have the first two and found that the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Techniques is still available new and used and on Amazon so I ordered mine .. Thanks for the info .. Be Safe
Regarding Jiu-Jitsu University: should you read the whole book through right away? Or just focus on the section for your respective belt? I'm a white belt, should I focus only on the white belt section?
i agree with all 3 books. just the Galvao book, he breaks it down like daily exercises. thats kind a difficult for me as a full time Dad and a business man sometimes. john will 3 series books are also awesome. i got a lot from it.
I studied and practiced with my brother for months with these books and was tapping blue and purple belts easily when I finally found a proper school. The books are amazing if you are devoted to learning bjj
That's 10th planet my friend. I prefer GJJ/BJJ but I will say this I do like the truck position. Rubber guard I'm just not flexible enough and I also prefer attacks from top. I prefer gi but no gi is great. Still you don't see champions coming out of 10th planet. I'm not hating in any way I think there are some great moves but just not realistic for self defense.
The books are:
1. Jiu-Jitsu University by Saulo Ribeiro
2. Drill to win - Andre Galvao
3. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt Techniques by Jean Jacques Machado
Thanks man!!!
I got the first one long ago when I started taking an interest in bjj. At the time I didn't realize Saulo Ribeiro is a legend.
@@rw2452Saolo looks like he just smashes people, but he’s super technical…

@@GregCartercargan Teach them how to fall safely and basic movements like technical stand up and hip escapes. Make it fun and playfull.
One that helped me was Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Theory and Technique by Renzo Gracie and Royler Gracie with Kid Peligro and John Danaher.

Ordered the BJJ University by Saulo. Thank you Chewie!!!!

Love Jiu Jitsu University - Saolo is one of my favorites…
I took your advice and bought the Jujitsu University as a white belt I think this is going to help me out a lot
great video, I love the recommendations you give here!
Thank you! Happy to help. :)

Can you recommend a DVD like you did on the books?
Gracie combatives. lol

saulo's book is worth it. the only thing keeping it from being the breast book ever is lack of takedowns
+Blake Beverly No problem. I appreciate the kind words brother. Again you can't go wrong with Jiu-Jitsu University.
Thanks for the detail about Machado's hand. Similar situation with Django Reinhardt. That should kick me in the rear end to work harder.
I like both Jean Jacques Machado books. Champion Techniques is also a great book and not expensive at all.
jiujitsu university is brilliant
Sir is this principle possible by training by myself!

great books! I own 2 of the 3 you showed
+yaboyhlb Nice. Which ones do you own? Do you have a favorite BJJ book you own?
+Chewjitsu I do not own andre's book. saulo's book is one of my favorite.
+Chewjitsu if you teach mma Greg Jackson's ground game book is alright
+yaboyhlb I do but I've never had a chance to read it.
It's better than the grapples manifesto
Regarding Jiu-Jitsu University: should you read the whole book through right away? Or just focus on the section for your respective belt? I'm a white belt, should I focus only on the white belt section?
Aaron Miller Focus on your belt, perfect your techniques and then read the next section.
i would read everything, but FOCUS and PRACTICE your belt.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Theory and Technique by Renzo Gracie, Royler Gracie, John Danaher, Kid Peligro, Ricardo Azoury
How helpful are those books really if you have no one to practice with?
Not very.
Maybe one day Drill to Win will be available again :(
I have a copy I don't really need anymore
i agree with all 3 books. just the Galvao book, he breaks it down like daily exercises. thats kind a difficult for me as a full time Dad and a business man sometimes. john will 3 series books are also awesome. i got a lot from it.
I love gracie jijutsu of Hélios gracie but it s more selfdefence oriented
Drill to Win on Amazon; the cheapest one and used is 300.00 Smackeroos !!!
What do you think of Marcelo Garcia DVD program?
Haven't seen his DVD program. But it's Marcelo Garcia so I'm sure it's good.
Victor Wolf Peña Marcello's Advanced jiujitsu book is awesome
Check out Alexandre Paiva book about bjj and mma.
what is the name of the 2nd book? I know of the author.
Drill to win.
thank you
I think your videos can replace books.

Dre Darcey which book specifically?
I just touched one in the book store and was able to order a black belt on amazon
Has anyone read books from Eddie Bravo?
