That last couple minutes was gold. So simple! I tried this at class this week. Wrote down new technique and aimed to hit it at least twice and i did! Going to try a couple more reps on it next week when rolling and then I'll try add another one. I also listed any times i tapped (and to what) to try to review things more clearly and methodologically. Thanks for the tips! From a UK white belt a year into the journey.!👍
That's funny I do the same thing Chewy, what also helps is I make playlists on RUclips for specific moves to look at on my account and I annotate it in my journal with the title of the move also the page number of the move in the book so I can reference back to it before I go back to the gym.
Hey Brother thought I'd share with you, recently got my first stripe , in part because of your online tutorials because I haven't been training nearly as much as I should lately , like four times in the past six weeks. anyway, the thing I really wanted to ask of you comment have you considered producing a podcast for videos like this where the visual isn't as important? I really enjoy the information you put out there however RUclips takes a lot more battery than a podcast takes
Books FTW....great addition to other resources (like Chewjitsu vids), makes me process the information in another way. Nice incorporation of books along with journals/notebooks to track progress/ keep objectives. As always, thanks for the good content.
I really enjoy your videos. And I was hoping I can ask you a question I've been grappling with? No pun intended. Haha. But, I have been debating on increasing my training to five times a week, but I am afraid to burn out and crash. I've asked others and their answers seem to be very general. In your experience, what have you seen with over training and progression?
Hey chew jitsu I trained 3 months bjj and today I had a motorcycle accident and it might take months to train again!Any tips for not fall in melancholy(it's summer in Greece) and I can't do anything...
I´ve just started three days ago, what would you say Chewie, Is it way too early to get this book because of information overload or could it already be helpful? I was looking at quite a few books online and the one by Saulo to me seemed by far the best.
From personal experience I would not suggest getting the book that early. Learn what they teach you and roll as much as you can. Understand the game because the book will make you confused. I have 2 years of wrestling and 1 of bjj on me and I started reading it about a month ago. It is an amazing book but I can see newbies will get confused by it. Wait until you understand what is going on in bjj, in the mats, during rolls, Learn how to move and what should you do in many situations. When you feel knowledgeable enough on the mats then maybe get it.
i'm gonna go against the popular opinion and recommend JJU for when you're just starting out. It is a book that has very little focus on submissions (which is a good thing for a beginner book), in fact the vast majority of the book is about guard passing an defending the guard pass, but most importantly it has a very helpful starting section on basic survival posture from all major positions as well as escapes that will help you a lot during the first months, imo, since you'll probably be stuck there A LOT. Just stick with that for the beginning and don't try to memorize all the guard passes and you should be fine imo.
That´s what I was planning to do, ignore the submission work in the book and pick one or maybe two techniques for every training session and try to work on those, along with the technical training in the gym. Well....since one day I´ll surely get the book anyway, why not now. In case of confusion I can always put it aside till later. Thanks guys for your thoughts, they were really helpful.
man i've looked literally everywhere since your last video on those books but there's no buying drill to win anytime soon anywhere reasonable. Tbh I even looked for a scanned version, nope, no luck. I did get JJU though.
yeah i'm not giving some off-time reseller 130 for a 30-something book that is out of print, and never will. Even if I had the money to spare, it would only incentivize people to keep up with this price heist bullshit that goes on for any out of print stuff.
Where have you guys been looking for it? I just bought it on german amazon since I live in Bavaria for 28 Euros, new, which is 31$, including shipping from NY. I also checked amazon.com and they sell it for 20$, new.
Yes I can read, thank you for changing your comment :D But sometimes I read and write too many things at a time so I got a little confused. Never heard about that book, what makes it so special?
Well, hard to answer in depth since I obviosuly don't have it, but I assume its because it focuses on drills to improve your techinique rather than the same old technique list that you caa find in a thousand other BJJ books, that may not work for you simply because you don't have developed certain abilities enough yet.
he already has 2, on on advanced all around techiniques and one on butterfly&X-guards. Too bad they are ALSO out of print and sold for ludicrous prices used, like drill to win.
nice dude. i have to buy one. but... the most kids dont even know what this is... a book :-D for real. kids in kindergarten get ...tablets.... wicked, na? in ten years no tree has to fall for books just for the other shit. soy and palm oil plantages and mines and expensive houses from rich people :-D kinda funny fantasy.
You've talked about the Over/Under Pass being one of your go to techniques. I'd love to see you teach it.
I'll see what I can do brother! Thanks for the comment.
Stumbled upon this channel and subbed without knowing anything about BJJ, but hoping to get into.
Thanks
You've made a great choice.
Did you get into it?
Just bought this book thank you for the great reviews!!!
Just started reading this book! It's great so far!
Just started BJJ a few weeks ago and came across your channel. The move journal is a great idea. thanks!

Hi, just wondering how your journey is going. I’m 18 months white belt.. South Wales, looking to buy this book. Do you still get use out of it?
I miss BJJ books being more common, there are some real gems that are now out of print.
Great recommendations killer. Big fan of you channel
I think visualizing is also a good tip and the same goes with videos as well as books.
Its been proven to help

I just bought the Jiu-Jitsu University, I hope learn and solidify the fundamentals... I also have a journal....
As a new white belt who is basically just a rag doll being thrown around, this is super helpful.
Thanks Chewie!

Hmm. Possibly. Do you think ripping the audio from some of my videos would be useful? And perhaps do some custom podcast stuff as well?
Honestly, and I don't know how feasible it would be, but I'd love to see ya on the PowerfulJRE podcast, Chewy. I'm sure your audiences overlap.
Books FTW....great addition to other resources (like Chewjitsu vids), makes me process the information in another way. Nice incorporation of books along with journals/notebooks to track progress/ keep objectives. As always, thanks for the good content.
Thank you for the insight.
Thanks. Great advice!

Not sure why the publisher of "Drill to Win" doesn't do a second printing of that book - used copies of it are going for over $100 on Amazon!
Paul Hayes. agree with you dude. there is obviously a demand for it.
Over $200 now!
