Oh the memories! The first time I saw the Experience was at Central Park as a surprise opener for the Young Rascals. The stage crew wheeled 6 Marshall double stacks onto the stage and we wondered how many people are in this band? Jimi walked out dressed exactly like the cover of the 1st album, and proceeded to play the entire thing. We thought we'd been hit by a bomb, we were awestruck! The next time I "experienced" the magic was at the Singer Bowl, where, if my old memory still serves me, they used a mixture of Marshall and Sunn double stacks, though the sound was less clear due to all the planes overhead landing and taking off from La Guardia. Both times the sound was very pure, mostly just a Fuzz Face and a wah, extremely loud, crafted by those magical hands. I've always savoured the alchemy that Eddie Kramer manifested for him in the studio, but the live concerts were raw, electrifying, and sensuous! I will always cherish them...
Sound City is often mentioned as THE amp used for clean tones like on Castles, Axis, Little Wing etc… Who knows if its true🤷♂️. Obviously might be hard to find one to obtain and demo but something to consider… Thx as always for the hard work you put into these videos. Great stuff!
Sounds fantastic! Thanks for another great video. I can’t say enough good things about the Ceriatone JTM 45/100 “Experienced” (w/PPIMV). I think you would love it!
I'm really glad you are doing these- It would be a shame if the methods of how these tones were made were lost due to not being documented, sort of like what happened with Roman concrete, where the formula was lost because the guys who made the stuff from memory all faded away. Another interesting topic would be Hendrix's use of Leslie speakers in the studio. The model of Leslie, and how it was driven and microphone placement would be interesting to know.
Thanks ✌️🎸 Try to get a good portion of mids with the contour and stay away from scooped sound - that’s all I can contribute without exactly knowing this type of amp ☮️
Thanks a lot ✌️🎸 You cannot obtain it, because the original unit wasn’t what was later sold in pedal format. It was a console based octavia. Check out my video on the Octavia…if you haven’t already. You might find some advice to get closer to the tone you search for ✌️☮️
Do you think Jimi used an occasional Vox amp? Sometimes that Little Wing intro..or some of his clean tones make me think of Vox..but i LOVE Marshall clean tones.. pretty sure I once read an interview with Stevie Ray Vaughan where he said he preferred using Marshalls for clean tones and Fender for his dirty tones
I think there’s more fenders than most think and I think i’ve head somewhere that also other amps like Sunn were used for axis. Could have been in one of those hendrix gear books. Who knows. There’s still the fact that they had nice mics, nice mic pres in nice consoles and all sort of old school outboard gear, going to tape and Eddie Kramer. The ep-2 is a bit mystery to me. It has been said he used one, I had one and while it was awesome (and hungry for tapes) the preamp did not sound particularly Hendrix to me. But yeah, you got pretty close, so well done!
Jimi was rumored to have used Sound City (early Hiwatt) amps during the Axis sessions. Judging based on the album's tones, I think maybe a few songs, but probably not all of them.
I dug out my early 70s Hiwatt dr103 which I’ve had stashed away for couple three years. I was playing just something and realized that sounds pretty much like you got me floating. what a great sound. For me that reinforces the idea that sound city amps actually were used along with marshalls and most likely fenders.
Line 6 M5 is really good in terms of delay recreation.. Still in my board 3 years already.. Analog with Mod & Sweep Echo is my favourite type of delay..
The Reverse Tape Effect needs to have a Reverse "Envelope" to get that tape scooping effect. Most Reverse Tape Effect can't get the Reverse Envelope effect like a real tape machine of like a reverse sweep wah. I think the Danelectro back talk reverse delay pedal comes somewhat close. Hendrix strats only had a 3 way blade switch so when you try to put it in the in-between positions you can make the 2nd middle tone control get connected to the bridge pickup to roll down the bridge pickup for the Hendrix song love as bold guitar solo. Listen to the guitar solo of Love as bold and use a 3 way strat blade switch to get the bridge pickup tone pot rolled down.

Thank you so much for sharing your memories ✌️🎸 It sounds incredibly exciting what you have experienced ☮️
Definitely the best little wing tone on the internet, it’s always too clean and you capture the perfect edge of breakup dynamic tone of this song !

Thanks Jonathan. Actually, Jimi also occasionally used a Sound City head in parallel to his Plexis ✌️🎸

What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend ❤😊
Thanks a lot ✌️🎸 Have a good Sunday too ☮️
Great tribute, sounds just like him.
Thanks ✌️🎸
Awesome as always. I’ve two octavia fuzz pedals (Sabbadius Rocktavia and Gni Octafuzz) but I can’t obtain the tone of the main riff of Purple Haze.

Thanks for asking ✌️🎸 I think Jimi never used VOX amps for recording. Regarding SRV, it’s a proven fact that he used a Marshall for clean tones 😀☮️

Oh yeah, that’s right, Sound City, not Sunn. I got confused!
@@alanparis7525 That’s exactly what I think, too ✌️🎸
