In response to the many comments below, the AMI training teaches to always start at the lower left corner when tracing and go clockwise. You fill it in from the lower left corner, up then down, in a curvy line. AMI teaches cursive handwriting as it is more fluid and Maria Montessori noticed children naturally using curving motions when they would draw free-form. Different schools will teach the lesson different ways. If you were trained in AMS then perhaps you will start at a different location because print letters are formed in a different way. Of course, we are not critical of the child when they do not do the Metal Insets perfectly. We must give excellent lessons and then leave the learning to the child.
The demonstration in this video differs on a few points from how I was taught but the movements were careful and clear.

Lovely presentation but the child should begin tracing at "2 o'clock" and work from left to right in a counter clockwise motion. The lines should also be drawn as straight as one can do it free handed from left to right.

really. I love Montessori but sometimes being too critical I find hinders the child's natural love of learning!...I think as long the child is holding the pencil correctly and enjoying himself then left to right doesn't even matter..they will have the basics down which will help tremendously when teaching letter formation which is when you will obviously teach proper letter formation....it's like teaching a child how to color..what,, he can only color left to right..how fun would that be.

we write from left to right so the child should draw the lines from left to right and from up to down to prepare himself for writing

This is not how it was presented in my AMI course. Check with your trainer before implementing...

Speak with your instructor and check your manuals. . .this presentation does not match the instruction received in a certified AMS training center.
