    Video Description: Kawai vs. Yamaha Digital Pianos Blind Test - Part 2
    Welcome back to the channel for Part 2 of our exciting blind test series, where we pit Kawai against Yamaha digital pianos! In the previous video, I was blindfolded and played four different instruments without knowing which was which. I shared my thoughts and scores on each piano, and now it’s time to dive into your guesses and ratings, compare them with my notes, and see how we all fared in identifying these instruments.
    What to Expect in This Video:
    Recap of the Blind Test: I’ll briefly summarize my impressions of each piano, including the tonal qualities and action feel that led me to my guesses.
    Piano Breakdown:
    Piano 1: I suspected this was a Yamaha model, likely the P-125A, due to its dynamic range and action feel.
    Piano 2: I felt this had a distinct Kawai tone, leading me to guess it was the ES-120.
    Piano 3: The specific action reminded me of the ES-60, which I was quite confident about.
    Piano 4: This one puzzled me, but I ultimately guessed it was the CK-88 based on its tonal quality and action.
    Viewer Engagement: I’ll read through some of your insightful comments and guesses from the previous video. It’s fascinating to see how our opinions align or differ!
    Comments range from guesses about the models to observations about the key textures and reflections that might indicate the brand.
    I’ll highlight some interesting theories and insights shared by viewers, including comparisons to other brands like Casio.
    Reveal of the Instruments: The moment of truth! I’ll unveil the actual models of the pianos I played and see how my guesses stack up against the reality.
    Did I get the brands right? How many models did I accurately identify?
    I’ll share my final score and invite you to share yours in the comments.
    Conclusion:
    As we wrap up this video, I’ll encourage you to let us know if you enjoyed this format and if you’d like to see more blind tests in the future. Your feedback is invaluable!

    I got the brands right based exclusively on yamaha's brighter tone, but had no idea about the models. Fascinating for me is just how little difference I could hear in "quality" between the cheaper and more expensive models in the same brand. Stu's playing mattered a lot more for perceived "good" sound than the actual tone engine. For headphones playing that seems to imply the action is the dominant feature to look out for, and something where Yamaha is really in need of some catch-up on the low end.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  5 часов назад

      It is certainly quite interesting! We start to appreciate how much we listen with our eyes. Naturally, Stu's ability to make any piano sound like a million bucks makes things a little bit trickier in some regards. ;)

  • @LangleyNA

    Loved this test. I wonder if your guesses would have been all correct had you played without the headphones, using the digital pianos’ in-built speakers. (Except of course the last one which was a stage piano without speakers)

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  5 часов назад +2

      That is a good point! Perhaps, having heard the extra sonic nuances of the onboard speaker could have helped differentiate things a little further.

    Very interesting video, im also interested to know if the scoring was based purely on digital category and what models would score the highest based on your preferences. If the scoring was general (digital and acoustic), what would be the highest score a digital piano could get compared to an acoustic? Thanks!

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  4 часа назад +1

      You're welcome! Thank you for taking the time to tune in. This scoring was based purely on the digital category I believe. That is a good question. Ultimately, it would come down to subjectivity. Every player would answer that question differently. Perhaps, Stu can tackle this one in a future Q&A video. :)

    If you stock Yamaha's, why don't you have the Clavinova range? The new 800 series is seriously good. I have the CLP875 which is a fantastic instrument. Yamaha have resampled their CFX and Bosendorther, I'm not crazy on the Bosendorther sample, but the CFX has a richness and sparkle to it that differs from other Yamahas I've owned which have a more plain sound.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  3 часа назад +1

      We are not Yamaha dealers, so we do not stock the entire line. We frequently get Yamaha models on trade though, which allows us to feature the models on the channel.

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  4 часа назад

      The onboard speakers will sound a bit different of course, but - if you are listening using headphones - the line out sounds featured on this video will be well-representative of the actual pianos' tones.
