  • Joe Gibbs is a rare breed when it comes to sports figures. There are many figures in specific sports that people can list who have mastered their craft in each given sport. Dale Earnhardt in NASCAR, Tom Brady in the NFL, Michael Jordan in the NBA, and so on and so forth. But Joe Gibbs is one of the only ones to be a multi-time championship winning NFL coach and NASCAR team owner. So how did he do this? Let’s find out.

Doubt it. They have 2 championship drivers locked in for the near future and a 3rd consistent champion contender in Denny Hamlin. On top of that they got more talent than they have room for. Joey logano, bubba Wallace, William Byron, Daniel Suarez , Erik Jones, Chris bell, Harrison burton, Brandon jones etc..who have all won and been competitive have been developed by the JGR/KBM/TRD pipeline. Not to mention they historically have the best pit crews in NASCAR

@@seancool75 Well Erik Jones won't be a part of the lineup in 2021. The other drivers, however, most likely have a bright future. Granted, JGR may have a drop-off similar to that of Hendrick Motorsports as 3 of their 4 drivers may likely retire in the next 5-10 years, but I think by that time, Christopher Bell will be developed enough as a Cup driver to lead the team.

@@johnnystek6900 Hendrick has dominated because he has a knack for talent scouting.
He acquired Bodine who was a great start. Then Tim Richmond who was phenomenal on road courses. After that he got Rudd and Schrader who were solid drivers and Darrell Waltrips was still top tier when driving for Hendrick. Finally, acquiring Jeff Gordon, the young phenom, and Terry Labonte, the consistently competitive, and always reliable veteran was great as they were top tier driver duo. Ricky Craven Wally Dallenbach were not great fits but they were serviceable. Jerry Nadeau was pretty talented and had some success in the 25. Lastly, taking a chance on Jimmie Johnson - Jimmie was terrible in Busch series but Jeff Gordon convinced Hendrick to take a chance - and Jimmie and Jeff became the new one two punch. The addition of Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr and most recently Chase And Alex Bowman Hendrick has always been a one two punch team surrounded by talented and underappreciated drivers who were good in their own right. Once they brought Matt Kenseth into the fold, he was able to elevate the team, and along with Busch & Hamlin maturing as drivers, & adding Carl Edwards, that once again made the team a dominate powerhouse. They've been the best, or one of the best, since 2015, & I don't see that changing anytime soon, despite their 2020 struggles

Hendrick Motorsports has won 12 between Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Terry Labonte.
Richard Childress Racing has won 6 championships, all with Dale Earnhardt.
Richard Petty has 7 Championships as an owner, but all of them came with Petty Enterprises; not Richard Petty Motorsports. And all of them came from Richard Petty himself.
Stewart-Haas Racing has 2 titles from Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick, one from each driver.
Team Penske has 2 titles with Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano each winning one a piece.
Roush Fenway Racing also has 2 Championships, but they won them as Roush Racing; not Roush Fenway Racing. And they won them with Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch. (Though they have more in the Xfinity Series, I think.)

I like to imagine a scenario where Gibbs continues to get even more ruthless than they already are. Like maybe the put Christopher Belle in the #20, he wins the first three races of the year and then finishes second in the fourth race. Second isn't good enough for the coach so he pulls a lever and a trap door opens up that Belle falls into where he falls through space and time for all eternity.
Coach calls up Harrison Burton who qualifies for the next race in... Second.

Definitely the best thing he did was hire Tony Stewart. This put the team on the map as far as being a "top tier" team. Bobby Labonte was a good driver and him winning the championship in 2000 was a nice story, I don't think anyone expected his success to sustain. Tony Stewart changed that. Hiring Kyle Busch was a great move too but they were considered one of the top teams by then.

Out of championship contending teams (week in and week out), JGR has 3 (11, 18, 19), Penske has 2 (2, 22), SHR has 1(4). Out of Strong but not contending teams, Hendrick has 1 (9), Penske has 1 (12). Out of consistent but not strong yet teams, JGR has 1(20), Hendrick has 2(24, 88), SHR has 2 (10, 14), RCR has 1 (3). JJ and rookies aren't included, because I sure as hell can't figure out JJ, just when you think he's coming back and showing strength, either he takes himself out or has bad luck. True Leffler and JJ Yeley didn't work out plus Logono and Jones have/are gonna leave people didn't believe in his Xfinity 2020 lineup and they have each gotten at least 10 top 10s and 2 of the 3 drivers won 2 races

It’s hard to imagine someone being so dominant in NASCAR being one of the worst teams in Motocross/Supercross in the field currently struggling to even qualify for the night races (for a factory team getting beat by satellite and privateers). Honestly coming from Maryland where you I grew up with every different race getting united by their love for the redskins, I’ve seen people get involved with NASCAR simply due to Joe Gibbs name being involved similar to motocross. I’ve got nothing but the upmost respect for JG and what he’s done in NASCAR and NFL.
