    Thank you for the good review. The extreme tour is great racket. Can generate heavy spin, the control is good, but what I like the most is the manuvarability of this racket which improves my timing when I play against big hitters. I added 8 grams of lead tape in 3 and 9 causing a better stability and little more power.

      I think the Extreme Tour is an excellent switch from the 2018 Prestige Pro (95 sqin right?). The both develop spin really well considering a tight pattern and swing quickly through the air even at higher swingweight. I think you'll feel down in power by a lot due to the significantly lower SW in the Extreme Tour, however, if you add a few grams at 12 I think it'll be exactly what you are looking for: responsive Head feel, excellent control on the stringbed, with a little more forgiveness off centre and less demanding mass to swing.

    After several hours with this stick I have really mixed feelings. The quickness and maneuverability is amazing for its 305g it's prob. the fastest feeling racquet on the market. But coming from a very plush, controlled and arm-friendly Gravity tour made me realise what matters for me in a racquet. The ExtremeT with a full bed of poly is far from being comfortable. I felt shoulder pain after many years again playing with this setup. The sweetspot is small compared to a Gravity, the margin for framed balls is high and it's harsh. My gravity tour has tons of feel, control and a very clean contact. This is where the ET gets a bit flimsy, I added 5 g at 12 and a leather grip but it still lacked some plow/stability. I've tried adding 10 grams total at 3/9 and this made the feel at impact better but sacrificed a lot of maneuverability. So adding too much weight in the head to this racquet is kinda pointless if you want to maintain the benefit of this racquet...

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  2 года назад

      I see how you feel. The Gravity line is a much better implementation of what I would consider a modern player's racquet, very reminiscent to like a Head Pro Tour or older Prestige. I'll agree it's still viciously unforgiving and not the most comfortable, which is why I am on the prowl for new sticks.

      @TennCom  2 года назад +1

      Interesting question. It's been a while since I played with the Prestige MP, but I remember the dwell time being absolutely excellent, one of the best on the market. The Prestige also feels more buttery soft, but you can feel the hoop flex if you catch the ball on the outside of the stringbed. The Extreme Tour doesn't have the flexy sensation outside the sweetspot, but you still get a bit of a jitter from the frame, letting know that it wasn't a clean shot. I prefer the stiffer feel outside the stringbed because I feel like it's more forgiving in terms of the ball going in. It's less comfortable for sure, but I feel like shanks with a flexy racquet can lead to an unpredictable response, whereas the Extreme Tour remains pretty predictable outside the sweetspot.

    May I know if you would recommend the extreme tour to an intermediate player (around 3.5)? I have played with the radical pro (but dates back to 2014) but am looking for something with a bit more power. Have also tried the pure drive 2021 but prefer a smaller head size for manoeuvrability. I play with a one handed backhand so the smaller head size helps and also generally prefer a more head light racquet.
    Thanks so much!

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  2 года назад

      The Extreme Tour has noticeably LESS power than the 2014 Radical Pro imo. Forgiveness is another concept worth considering, and I'd still put the ET as less forgiving. It's not really about you being a 3.5, I just don't think the ET is what you are looking for. The current generation Radical MP is a lot more forgiving than the old ones were because they thickened up the beam quite a bit.
      I also wouldn't worry about small head being more maneuverable. You can use it as an indicator, but a more definitive way of determining a racquet's maneuverability is the twistweight (I have done a couple of videos on this). Another frame I really enjoy is the Pure Aero VS. Tons of forgiveness throughout the stringbed, excellent speed through the air and you get very cool endorsements.

I find round strings and higher tensions will decrease launch angle, which will decrease depth, helping you keep the ball in, but spin and ball speed should remain similar.

      @@TennCom great review. I bought 2 of these. I’m a one handed backhand coming from older pro staffs. Added leather grip and some lead to handle and at 3/9 o’clock. Strung weight is 341 which feels nice and still very fast through the air. I feel like it would play even better with more weight but don’t want to lose its easy playability. I’ve also tried so many different string setups. One setup that seems to work really well is luxilon big banger ace 18 in cross and head hawk 1.25 in mains. All at 55 lbs. balls stay nice and controlled and don’t fly out. Plenty of spin and balls will go deep if you plow through properly. Another setup i tried was ace 18 in cross with alu power or power rough 1.25 in mains 55 lbs. the rough combo felt nice at first but quickly lost its feel and balls would spray erratically. The ace/alu power combo was very good. Softer feel and balls went deep , but sometimes too trampoline like and harder to keep in play. I find this racquet played the most well controlled with the head hawk hybrid. Thoughts ?

    What would I gain or lose by switching to this racquet from the Blade 98 V7 18 x 20?

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  2 года назад

      The main thing you would be losing is swingweight. The Blade v7 18x20 and a swingweight of 334, and the Extreme Tour 318. This is a substantial decrease, meaning your maximum power and stability will be hindered. That said, if you struggle to full accelerate the Blade you may see and increase in power and spin from the Extreme Tour due to a higher swing speed. With the Extreme, you would gain spin potential and forgiveness. I found the v7 Blade to be very lower powered and unforgiving, with a super low launch angle. It's much easier to arc the ball with the Extreme.

  • @jerryplaystennis
    @jerryplaystennis 2 года назад

    Hey man, I wanted to get your opinion. I have the Head Extreme tour with added weight in the handle, but the problem I have with this stick is it has a very high launch angle. Strung with head lynx tour, the ball just flies 1-2 feet behind the baseline every time I hit . Just curious if you also feel this way and if your Volkl Cyclone 17 @ 52 lbs can produce enough spin to push it back down into the court? There's a lot of ball-pocketing with the head lynx tour, so I was wondering if a control string with bite/snap back will be able to keep the balls in the court?

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  2 года назад +1

      I struggled with the launch angle from Lynx Tour as well. I found it quite stiff when fresh, but it loses tension and settles kinda low with a low of power. I don't think Cyclone, or any other poly, will create exxtra spin to keep the ball in, just lower the launch angle. I like Grapplesnake TourSniper, Solinco Confidential for this. For even lower, I would try something round like PolyTour Strike or Head Hawk. Usually I like Poly Tour Pro, but I found it to feel a bit plasticky in this stick.

    Do you think Head quality is similar to yonex? This is terms of materials used and technology. You know that many consider yonex quality very good and the fact that it is made in Japan is part of the idea that they are better built than rackets made in China. It’s kind of discriminatory in a sense as the Head rackets are designed in Austria but they are built in China I suppose for economic reasons.

    • @TennCom
      @TennCom  2 года назад

      I don’t think there’s any evidence to support the actual quality of the graphite is better for Yonex.
      My old boss at Courtside toured the Head factory and was told that the highest quality graphite is indeed sourced from Japan, but was reassured that Head also had access to that graphite. I’d assume that all of the major brands with similar pricing are using the same graphite.
      It would be cool to do a video that better analyzed the supply chains in tennis.

    • @adriellepretre9047
      @adriellepretre9047 2 года назад

      Yes indeed. That would be a good informative video. The craftsmanship of yonex rackets is good but this repetitive idea that they are better just because they are made in Japan is a generalization . More factual data would be interesting. So, if Head rackets we’re made in Austria and not China they would be as good as Yonex? Or if Wilson was manufactured in Silicon Valley they would be better than Yonex? Made in Japan is equal to quality but is also great marketing. One has to be careful as it’s a fierce competition and each company does its best to sell their product. Yonex does not have so many too tour players so they rely on their quality as a way to attracts customers. And for sure they have quality products regardless.

    • @adriellepretre9047
      @adriellepretre9047 2 года назад

      I always analyze how mass production could affect quality. For example for me Babolat rackets arw the most clear example. They rely on marketing and build rackets for the masses where quality is questionable. At least for me their rackets feel cheap regardless of the graphite they use.

      @@adriellepretre9047 I highly doubt that many consumers would be able to notice a practical differences between manufacturing processes. It is a good racket but I would say it's not precisely easy to use. I was playing with the Babolat Pure Strike 98 16x19 2nd Gen, with great results. But due to arm pain issues I swichted to this Head Extreme Tour. Certainly more comfortable, it's a good racket but: it was WAY less power and a much LOWER launch angle than the Strike. It's more like a Prestige than an Extreme, the string is very dense for a 16x19 (specially in the center). So it is way more demanding, it doesn't make it easy to hit winners, and I feel at my level (4.5) it's no really helping me. I like to play with a lot of spin and this racket doesn't suit that game. I think it's a racket for more advanced players with offensive style, otherwise the low power and low launch angle makes it difficult to use (specially on defence).

      I totally see what you're saying, but I actually think the Aero performs quite well compared to other spin-oriented 100's. It essentially invented the segment in 2004. Wilson's Burn/Steam lines have disappeared. I pretty much hate the Extreme MP (and always have). The VCORE 100 is quite good though. The fact that Babolat has one of the most emulated players in history is just icing on the cake of a very good racquet.

      I haven't hit with the new VCORE 95 that extensively, but I remember noticing a surprisingly amount of power for a stock racquet. The launch angle is also higher, with better stock spin potential and stability. What I didn't like was the muted feel. I found it hard to know where I hit the ball on the strings and the contact feeling to be more vague that I would like. This is coming from someone who used the SV 95 and '18 VC95 as their racquet of choice.

    I totally disagree, i had high hopes of the extreme tour, but i tried it out for 3 months, measuring is specs, tinkering around with customization and strings, but eventually sold it as so far it was the most unpredictable racket for me. Mine has unpredictable response just outside the sweet spot. And in stock as well as customized to my preferred spec and in between i never gelled with me. Current racket that surprised me and totally fit my game perfectly is the Dunlop cx200 tour 18x20 heavily customized. I can generate loads of spin with this one as the 95 head is very round and the beam is very thin sand super fast through the air. Touch and feedback is just gorgeous.
