  • This is episode 29 of the Love, Hope, Lyme podcast.
Fred Diamond's popular book, "Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know" offers those who love someone with persistent or chronic Lyme ideas and tips to support this beloved person. It also helps Lyme survivors know how to ask for support.
On today’s episode, we discuss the challenges that tick bite parasitic coinfections add to the diagnostic and treatment puzzle most Lyme disease survivors face.
His guest is Global Lyme Alliance CEO Laura MacNeill. She discussed the work her organization is doing to develop better diagnostics, tests and treatment for the coinfections Bartonella and Babesiosis.
MacNeill said that GLA is supporting Dr. Choukri Ben Mamoun at Yale in his research on a dual therapy approach using the antimalarials tafenoquine and atovaquone. She also discussed the Bartonella Discovery Project that is being done with Dr. Monica Embers at Tulane University, a specialist in Borrelia burgdorferi and Lyme disease.
When Fred was doing the research for his popular book “Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know,” he had no idea there were other diseases Lyme survivors had to worry about.
If someone you love has been afflicted with Lyme disease, watch this podcast now.
If you have Lyme disease, listen for ways to get the support you need.

    THANK YOU for this video!
Both of you are amazing! This is the most comprehensive video of its kind I have seen on this topic!
Thank you so much for shedding light on the numerous these coinfections and getting rid of them with various treatments.
I’m getting anxious to heal faster from a live Babesia Mycroti and a few other latent Lyme+ infections like Bartonella, etc. I was diagnosed with 19 months ago, plus viruses that have resurfaced like EBS, shingles, and inflammation.
I’m in freeze response from medical PTSD , brain issues, trauma, and CNS damage, I’m trying so hard to stay on the right track alone at 69, and function well enough to get the right help and deal with what needs to be addressed first, like my bills, paperwork, taxes, running a house I’m now allergic to, etc.
As with most of us with chronic illness and pain, I’m dealing with depression and mental exhaustion.
I’m trying my best to function normally, but I never know how I’ll feel or when symptoms may strike, and I’ve lost my family, money, and relationships. I’ve been undependable since i became ill 21 years ago from other toxins first, then mold, and now about 5 to 7 Lyme +, and latent viruses that have resurfaced.
Most people DO NOT understand this, and I didn’t either! But, unless you or your child get it, you don’t “get it. To think that most of my childhood suffering from Bartonella, is a crime to children everywhere. I have found that people, including my loved ones don’t want to learn, and I’m concerned about the young children in my immediate, extended family, and children everywhere. Many have unnecessary illnesses that, if recognized by a GP, would save so much money, losses, pain, and suffering. I will share this with my loved ones, but I would bet no one will listen to this. I don’t have loved ones who care! My friends care, because they are aware, but, sadly, my loved ones don’t.🥲
    Thank you for the website.
Maybe add more information on how common this is, and that it’s not a bullseye rash nor just from ticks. Thank you for listening to my lengthy response❣️

Can I do anything from RUclips? I hate Facebook and LinkedIn. Thanks! You’re a blessing! I wish more people would listen to you! I shared, but that’s all I can do. 🥲

Thank you SOOO MUCH about Lyme’s particularly Babesia. Plus I have Fibromyalgia, Hydrocephalus, Hashimoto’s but the Babesia has caused such brain fog it’s awful. Does Babesia etc also cause neuropathy? This podcast was tremendous & bless you both & your Alliance & researchers for caring!! Thanks again!❤

Thank you for the informative session. Is there any effort for finding novel agents for bart just like hygromycin was found for lyme? There could be low hanging fruits there. It seems bart especially is somehow much harder to kill than lyme. Previously test tube research has been done on bart but i dont see it make much impact in clinical practice. This seriously needs some good attention.

We need insurance to cover the labs that can best detect these infections
