  • This is episode 21 of the Love, Hope, Lyme podcast.
Fred Diamond's popular book, "Love, Hope, Lyme: What Family Members, Partners, and Friends Who Love a Chronic Lyme Survivor Need to Know" offers those who love someone with persistent or chronic Lyme ideas and tips to support this beloved person. It also helps Lyme survivors know how to ask for support.
On today’s podcast, Fred interviews Rachel Leland and Dorothy Leland, authors of "Finding Resilience: A Teen's Journey Through Lyme Disease."
Rachel and Dorothy discuss their interactions with friends, the medical community, school administrators, and the global Lyme community, while learning about Lyme disease and how it was affecting Rachel during her formative years. It's a fascinating story of a young girl's journey to understand the impact of a mysterious disease that affects tens of millions around the globe, and how her mother, who has become a leading figure in the tick-borne illness community, struggled to learn what she needed to support her daughter.
If someone you love has been afflicted with Lyme disease, listen to this podcast now.

My daughter read Finding Resilience in one day. I really appreciate how it is written from two perspectives: mother + daughter.

I just read this book and loved it. Very enlightening for parents and family of children going through chronic illness or Lyme. Warning that it may not be appropriate for suffering teens in a dark place, so parents read before giving it to your child.

So much to say on this subject, so little strength or bandwidth left to say it. It's good to know there are people getting well & advocating for others. Personally I am becoming bitter & I absolutely hate that...if anything can turn an optimist it would be the illness we dare not speak of...Lymesince89

My Goodness, this is so helpful, we live in UK and my daughter had the CD57 blood test, we are now waiting for the blood test to come back from Germany, this is the most awful disease, and made twice as bad by having to justify the symptoms to doctor, it’s heartbreaking watching my daughter go through this, thank you for bringing us your podcast

I have tried getting in touch with you before. I need to know who this California Lyme doctor is. I am being treated by a general practitioner and he doesn’t hear me. He doesn’t hear my depression. He doesn’t hear my solitude that I just stay in my house or my room. He doesn’t hear me when I say I can’t breathe good. He says it was only Lime and he gave me 30 days of Doxy Sillen.
