  • We are sharing our Ripley AF first ride review as I have put a couple rides on this awesome bike to get a feel for it's character on the trail. The AF has built upon the great carbon Ripley V4 with a little bit slacker headtube angle. We will be working on a long term review as well as put this awesome value Ripley up against a couple carbon light weights in the category.

    Great, initial review!!
    For years I rode a V1 Ripley and really loved that bike!! This past year I been riding a V1 Ripmo and again really love the bike!! There is some overlap between the Ripley and Ripmo as some of you know. They have similar traits apart from the Ripmo being more stable at speed and the Ripley being a tad easier to maneuver. They both are super responsive bikes and pedal super efficiently.
    What would make an interesting video is a back to back comparison between the Ripley AF Vs. Ripmo AF for viewers.

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  3 года назад +1

      I have not ridden either carbon Ripmo or Ripley but would say both AF models do have some overlap. The Ripley climbs better and obviously Ripmo descends better but both are closer to each other than I expected.

      @@StraightLine_MTB You should ride the Carbon versions too! I think it comes down to riding style if you're deciding between the two. As I'm getting older ( Pushing 50 ) I appreciate the extra support on the Ripmo.
      I'm curious to know how the stability is on the Ripley AF. I'm assuming it might be a bit better compared to its Carbon version due to the extra weight.

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  3 года назад +1

      looks like 6' is the starting point for XL so not out of the question. You might loose out a bit on the maneuverability and playfulness but with the longer wheel base it should be more confident at speed. Short time on it but I didn't feel that it was too small, just felt shorter in the cockpit on the climbs. Thanks for watching Derrick!

    • @StraightLine_MTB
      @StraightLine_MTB  3 года назад

      Good question. I haven't been on the Occam for a while but I did really like it. I would say AF climbs better but with the Occams longer travel and geo it descends a bit better. The Ripley AF holds its own really well and think both are great. If I had to choose I'd probably go Ibis as it is a better value and so much fun.....and hard to beat their customer service. Orbea's is good but you must go through dealer and the few issues I've had, parts came from Spain and took a while. Ibis is dealer or direct and great to work with.

      at 176 cm Ibis has you listed on a Large. I am 5'11.5" and rode a large and found the cockpit more on the compact side so I am thinking at your height a Large would be a good fit. Great comparison. Build spec aside I'd say DH capability is similar with slight edge to the RZ. The RZ felt a little more roomy in the cockpit. Ripley AF will climb better and has less pedal bob. If you can stretch to the AFs price I'd go that route otherwise the RZ3 is great as well.
