First Ride Report | Rocky Mountain Element

Join me on my very first ride review and early impressions. For a bike labeled XC, it sure is super capable. Riding it in the factory "neutral" position #3, which is the 2nd most slack, surprised me on how capable it is. With 2 more slack positions, I am excited to see how it does on these rowdy trails when the geo is altered. Stay tuned for the full review soon! Thank you to airparkbikeco.com ...

Admitidly I bought this bike with no intentions of reviewing. I just wanted something light and fast that I could try and keep up with some faster riders and Ebikers. To my surprise this bike had me XC riding a lot. How does this compare to the izzo
@matthewserna7475 I'd say the Element leans toward a trail XC bike. Izzo, to me, sits in a similar spot, but it is an interesting bike as it's not a trail nor really xc. The Element has trail capability with XC feel (suspension wise). Element has a longer feel and doesn't need a rear lock out to feel efficient. Izzo is going to be a better value by a bit, but for my style of riding, I'd go Element every time.
I like the transition spur better!!
@davewallace9048 both great. The Evo covers ground faster while Spur descends better. I actually had some of my fastest segment descents on the Evo over many other bikes, which surprised me.
Thinking of the spur now 2024 with RS ultimate set at 130.
It is a great bike. Super fun and agile.
Is the pedal a flat pedal?
Yes, I ride flats.
i realy want this bike.. im korean can i buy it?
@@arsobo shipping would be very expensive. Although I am selling 😃
@@StraightLine_MTB thx answer if i pay how much totally i want small size yellow carbone right?
Great review! I can get this one locally so this was a great watch. I’m in Dallas Texas and I think it would be perfect for anything we have around here. Not near as chunky as what you were shredding \m/
@texasrogue93 the Element is decently versatile especially with the flip chip's 4 settings. I recently have been riding it in the steepest setting and like it for more xc stuff. The slackest setting is fun when you want more stability. Although have ridden it mostly in the stock neutral position. Thanks for watching
How tall are you
@@akosyjonathan 5'11.5" 31.5" inseam
Thanks for your review. I upgraded to a RS Super Deluxe Ultimate rear shock on my Instinct and looking to upgrade my OE Recon to the ZEB, but thought I would have to settle for the Domain bc of the price of the ZEB. I'm not above mixing brands so I was looking at Marzzochi, DVO, Ohin, and Cane Creek bc they are on sale right now. But that Mezzer Pro... Thanks for breaking it down like it down like that.
@George-Kliavkoff4Big12 can't really go wrong with any of the top end stuff. Mezzer is my hands down favorite. The new Suntour Durolux is great for the price as well although they are on the heavier side. Thank you for watching!
👋 wassup homie. starting the youtube connections with the folks I follow on IG.
@@nobikingnolife nice! Welcome, we should colab
I think the Hellkat would've worked better for you on a 30mm iw rim instead of 25mm. Would've brought the casing to atleast 60mm and flattened out the tread profile for better dry performance.
It looks like you FOMO'd. Prices are so much lower these days.
@@koolkeith8908 covid was a different world, not like the current market.
What is your height, sir?
@@bike-czech I'm 5'11.5" on a large
@@StraightLine_MTB thank you, sir. For 5'9.5'' to cm make sense to go for Rallon in M size or L?
@bike-czech Orbea lists that you could ride either size. If you wanted a more nimble pop feeling, I'd go medium. If you're after a bit more stability, then Large would be good.
@@StraightLine_MTB Thanks!
I've own this bike for about 2 years , it's spectacular ! I love it , fast fun bike .
I agree, pretty versatile as well. Thanks for watching 🎉
Sir hope you are well, I saw your youtube channel from Bangladesh, your channel is very nice but what can I know? Why are you not regularly uploading videos on your channel?
you think that hellkat on rear and front it is a good idea?
Depending on your terrain, they could be great. I think they roll well enough to run front and rear. Great tires
@@StraightLine_MTB thanks mate!
@@marcosfmtb my pleasure
have a size smol, stuck a 120 34sc for most rides and a 140 lyrik for the bikepark.
Nice. I had toyed with adding a coil in rear to get more rowdy.
@@StraightLine_MTB stayed with air shock. I installed remote lock for the fox dps, and got a marzochi shock w/reservoir for the chunky stuff.
Hey, great review. How tall are you? I just picked up RM Element C50 in size large. I'm 6'1, 190lbs. According to all the RAD and reach calculations Large was the right size for me. Having gone on one ride so far, I'm finding the fit a bit small. I'm coming from a pure xc race bike so perhaps I just need to get used to it. Besides that amazing bike, I went down sections I would never dare to do on my XC bike.
I am just under 6'. I'd say it feels similar to the Spur cockpit wise. I don't feel cramped on it but I am shorter. Coming off an Epic Evo, the Element feels bigger and does handle a fair amount of chunky stuff.
I mean… ya do.
Good to hear it doesn’t compromise much on the downhill. I bought my first MTB a year ago and got the Status and feel as if its not really meant for what i do, i do more flat techy/make ground style ride with some downhill bombs but dont live in a mountain area and a buddy pointed me in the epic direction. I also cant keep up with anyone speed wise on rides with the status. Feel like i work twice as hard and i am in great shape
For being an XC bike, it is really a blast to ride. Of course, it won't handle the tech like the Status, but it will be more enjoyable on the way up. If you're not riding tech trails, the Epic Evo could be a great bike.
Just nabbed the 2023 model for 3,299. Delivery tomorrow. Super excited. I chose this over a Norco Optic C2. The Norco had XT hubs with Stan's I went with the DT swiss 350s and DT swiss XM 1700 rims. Much better spec in my opinion then the XT Stan's setup.
Canyon has a great build for the price. The Spectral is really hard to beat for a do it all bigger bike.
have you wrecked at all? I wanna get it but the only thing i’m scared of is cracking the carbon frame. granted I haven’t wrecked in like 2 years, but yk always gotta be careful I mean I hit double blacks, jump trails and everything
No crashes on this bike but have on other carbon bikes. I've never cracked carbon from a crash. It's relatively resilient. I have dented aluminum frames that have put them out of commission.
@@StraightLine_MTB that’s what I was thinking honestly i’ve saw a few people wreck in vids w carbon bikes and they just get back on and cruise on. I just order the Spectral CF 7 29er i’m excited asf for it to get in
Hi, could you tell me please how tall are you? I am in between M and L size at 5'10 and dont know which one to go with? Thank you
I am 5'11.5" and on a large. It felt comfortable for as I usually ride longer travel bikes. Your height has you on either large or medium. From there, think if you want a more nimble or more confident bike. Going with large will give you a slightly longer wheelbase which should give a bit more confidence. Check seat tube length also as the seat tube is longer than longer travel bikes
@@StraightLine_MTB thanks a lot
@@funLad80 no problem, should say large or medium.
Definitely large
A jack of all trades IS a master of none
Just subbed! Loved this review
Awesome, thank you!
My wife and I have this bike. We upgraded to spinergy wheels, carbon race face cranks, specilized ground control tires, 4-piston front brakes with 200mm rotor. With bottle cages, computer, and Speedplay frog pedals - her medium weighs a hair over 25lbs. My extra-large weighs a hair over 27lbs. Best climbing dual-suspension bike I've ever riden. Decends great as well. (I paid retail for the bike, including all the swapped components. The bike shop gave me 'credit' for the stock components, and all the stuff I swapped out happened to be on sale at the time).
It's a great versatile bike, and the geo adjustments kick it up a notch as well
I’ve been definitely looking at the Ripley af and the Element A10 between the 2 which of these feels more comfortable overall in your opinion really enjoy your reviews thanks again
Element will feel bigger in the cockpit and more confident. The AF is more compact and a better value. I feel like the Element is more versatile option but again the AF is a great value for what you are paying.
@@StraightLine_MTB thanks appreciate the advice
@@whalen530 let me know what you decide and how you like it 👍
Amount of times you said a $2000 bike , was almost apologetic . The T7 is better than that
It was more of an exclamation of the amazing value. No apologies necessary or implied. 😮
Element or Instinct is my decision right now for a all around trail bike? I’m 235 and taller than most. Older ride who likes blues and single black trails
Element is a great bike but I've never been on an Instinct. That said it's still a 120/130mm bike so it won't be as comfortable in the chunk. Fully capable but will need an active rider in the black diamonds. It really boils down to what you're wanting. Instinct will be more forgiving but Element fast climber. I enjoy a short travel bike as it sharpens my riding when things get rowdy. As a one bike, I'd do 2 shocks, I'd want an Inline coil and air shock. Give some options as I think with a coil out back could be pretty awesome for rowdier days
Great review.
Thank you!
She sho is clean and looking sexy.
What? 36 lbs? My yeti sb160 is 31 lbs! 😂. Consider changing the wheelset, BB, head set, bars (cutting them shorter), stem, saddle, opt for top level drive train, tires, pedals, etc.
I put on a set of EXC 1200 which dropped about 1lb. Chasing grams is expensive 😅 . I don't think I could get away with lighter tires as they may not survive. Either way it's still a great bike
Chine my Chevy an fine my choose
This fork costs less than 300$ in Philippines and nobody's buying it. Crazy
I'd buy 2 at that price. It really is a great for and not just because of value.
love the shirt! hell yeah great video
Thanks!
I've always thought that Rocky Mountain is over priced considerabing it's just a horst link frame. YT uses the same suspension design and is so much cheaper. Great review as always.
I'd have to admit the value isn't in the same ballpark as YT. Being my first RM I am impressed though. What they have done is made an bike that climbs really well but almost feels like an AM bike. I sang the praises for the Spur in the same regard.....the Element kicks it up a notch. Thank you for stopping by amigo
SB160 is one of the best bikes out there. Only thing I would change is switching it over to Shimano.
So far I'm thinking the same. 🎉
That is a sick bike. My buddy bought one and he loves. Great video as always.
Thanks brother
Nice video, I have the same bike that I bought it 6 months ago and I just love it.
It's pretty awesome. What build did you get?
Hello bro . Did you try on trails this bike?do you have a video ? I wrote u before to ask you difference between the sentinel and spire in the end I resigned tto the spire to big for my local trail now am between the rallón or the sentinel? Are similar ? Cheers bro
The Rallon is more playful than the Spire for sure. Rallon, to me, is more of a longer travel all mountain bike than true enduro bike. It will be less bored on mellower trails than the Spire. I put a coil on the Rallon, and it increased its capabilities. If you run an air shock it'd be more playful. Coil slots it more enduro and I feel this bike deserves a coil shock.
@@StraightLine_MTB what a quick response thanks 👏👏. I think you got confused I ask you for the sentinel NOT for the spire . Sentinel vs rallón similars feelings? Thanks
@rodolforubio1824 Sentinel will line more with the rallon. Sentinel felt like a bigger bike in the cockpit but I would also put it in longer travel all mountain than pure enduro. I don't think you'd gain more switching to the Rallon. I'd say frame/paint quality feels nicer on the Rallon. Plus you get some cool things like storage in downtube as well as integrated tools.
Damn, you handled Rocky like a Boss👍
Love stonewall and rocky. Rocky has gotten more sketchy since this video 😮. Thanks for watching!
I rode Stonewall,Rocky, Confluence a couple of weeks ago and Rocky was washed out with loose rocks. Maybe hit it again after winter.👍
So far I'm loving this bike. Maybe the hype is real 😮 thanks for watching
Ripley AF is that good
It's pretty awesome
Bike looks great in action! Looks like you’re going pretty fast. Thanks for including the climbing info too, that’s good to know. Enjoy! 👍🙌
Should do an update video vs the new charger 3 damper.
That would be a great match up. Unfortunately I don't have either currently.
Only downside of the Rocky Element is that you have to replace the tiny linkage bearings way too often. There are 10 of them, but only 4-6 need constant replacement. Probably should have designed it with some larger bearings that can handle the riding this bike gets. Check MTBR forums and you will see many people complaining about these bearings. Mine lasted two seasons but I need to change them now.
I have read that and seems like an issue. Hopefully, it's addressed in a revision on this bike. So far, mine seem ok but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks for watching.
I love my Element! Here is a video of me riding it. ruclips.net/video/4Idr6MWN59c/видео.htmlsi=-H-j6-7QUDS1fsmT
