Really like how they’re complimenting each other. The actress who pays Rhaena did mention Team Black’s biggest weakness though - the way they’re always talking about what they deserve while Team Green is actually working for what they want.
It kinda makes sense, too. In an hereditary system you follow a series of rules, and if you're in the favored end of those rules you're allowed to relax, whereas if you're trying to take an inusual place it takes active effort
The problem with the greens is they all want different things. There’s no singular goal in mind. There’s no real unity in leading the pursuit of one singular goal.
I love how serious Ewan takes the world and Aemond. You can tell he really studied up on the character, the dragons, and the world, makes me happy as a long time reader and fan of ASOIAF and it’s world.

We've seen several shots of this battle in the trailers.

Then, suddenly Aegon and Aemond appear on their dragons from nowhere. The Greens had laid a trap and Rhaenys fell right into it. For her credit, she made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and crack of her whip, Rhaenys turned Meleys towards the foe. Dragons were attacking each other with fire so much that it looked like a second sun was formed. Meleys managed to remove one of Sunfyre's wings and was tightening her claws around his neck. Vhagar rains fire on them both, resulting in Aegon and Sunfyre getting crippled and Rhaenys and Meleys dead. The armour Aegon was wearing fused into his body. Hope my detailed explanation helped.

This is a society that limits women’s power. Rhaenys was projecting her own situation onto Alicent in that scene (she’s the queen who never was, the woman who lost the throne and just obeys her husband and his ambitions).

Alicent herself throughout her childhood defended Rhaenyra, and even know holds love and mercy that even her own son is calling her out for it. Alicent, as someone who does not have Targaryen lineage, managed to become queen consort (and queen for a bit) in an environment you least expect. So of course the other side is praising Alicent’s mind and ambition because of how strong she has been for years despite everything she’s been through and that toxic royal council.

Alicent wants peace now. Once war is at her doors steps. After what we saw her knitting in episode 4,5,6, and 7 that equals to 16 years telling Aegon and Aemond that Rhaenrya was unworthy of her crown, and that it should be Aegon because he is a male, and that Helaena was going to Aegon’s queen when Helaena wasn’t even yet married to Aegon. And that Aegon couldn’t be friends with Jace and Luke because they were the enemy. After trying to play so that Luke would lose Drifmark to Veamond, after slashing Rhaenrya’s wrist. She wants peace? Please she light the fire of her tower (episode 4) long ago and made her stand crystal clear for 16 years. And all of the sudden she wants Aegon and Aemond to forget what she nail in their heads. After Blood and Cheese there would be no turn back. Either they win or Rhaenrya wins. Either they ruled or Rhaenrya. Too late alicent realized that her pettiness and bitterness lead to nothing but the destruction of everyone she knows. Men around her fight for their own agendas and she will soon learn that. That is not that the realm won’t take Rhaenrya as their ruler because she will see that more than haft of the realm does but that the ones that do not is because Rhaenrya doesn’t guarantee them what they want to gain out of this war and viceversa. Is just this show loves to show as if the only one with hidden personal ambitions is Daemon. 😅 when they all grant their swords for their own personal gain.
My fear is that HBO doesn’t use its time wisely with these episodes, there won’t be crazy time jumps like there were in season 1 and we’ll need a lot of bases covered with only 8 episodes. That said I have faith in the showrunners and the team to not make the mistakes they made with the later seasons of GOT. Season 1 was a triumphant return to Westeros and I am beyond hyped for this second season!

It's true . Vhagar and Dreamfyre are currently the biggest CLAIMED dragons in Westeros . And only Meleys and Caraxes from the Blacks are bigger then Sunfyre so it's true

Actually it's aegon 2 who killed rhaeneyra by throwing her in front of sunfyre. So in a way he won but later got poisoned. Aegon 3's ascended the throne as a result of Mutual exhaustion and negotiated peace and marrying to jaehaera. So nobody won the war. Targaryens actually lost the war by killing all their dragons. That's why it is called the fall of house targaryen.

In ASOIAF the side you want to be on is the one that has House Blackwood as an ally. Depending on the war you’ll either have a group of badasses (various characters during the Dance of the Dragons), a scary but effective Hand/spymaster/wizard (Bloodraven during the Blackfyre Rebellions) or some of the most loyal supporters imaginable (Lord Tytos during the War of Five Kings and he only surrendered to Jaime to deny the Brackens the pleasure)
Listen I'll make my argument against that with a very simple counterpoint. House Peake is who you really want. Sure, they may scheme against you, will almost certainly lose, but they will do it in style and far more importantly, cause massive problems for your enemies. Just look at them killing Maekar in the Peake Uprising. Now THAT is useful. Plus, they're a big Gormenghast reference which is great. Blackwoods 🥱. Peakes are clearly just better in every regard.

Honestly, adding that deathbed moment where Alicent really believes her father wanted her sun to take the throne was one of the worst changes this series made. In the books it's clear that she and her vile father are simply after power, and nothing more. The blacks are the ones clearly in the right for most of the story. I hate that they changed that. No one should be rooting for the green gits.

@@rainmaker4111 nope. That's not how it works. The war ends when both the main claimants (aegon 2 and rhaeneyra) of the throne died. Actually it's aegon 2 who killed rhaeneyra by throwing her in front of sunfyre. So in a way he won but later got poisoned. Aegon 3's ascended the throne as a result of Mutual exhaustion and negotiated peace and marrying to jaehaera.
So nobody won the war. Targaryens actually lost the war by killing all their dragons. That's why it is called the fall of house targaryen.

She is implying that they shouldn't be there because Rhaenyra is a Queen and should be at Kingslanding where royals must live. Definitely had major ramifications, so did the Blackfyre rebellions as well (despite them being failures). The War of the Ninepenny Kings set the stage for damn near everything to come, its ramifications were massive

In ASOIAF the side you want to be on is the one that has House Blackwood as an ally. Depending on the war you’ll either have a group of badasses (various characters during the Dance of the Dragons), a scary but effective Hand/spymaster/wizard (Bloodraven during the Blackfyre Rebellions) or some of the most loyal supporters imaginable (Lord Tytos during the War of Five Kings and he only surrendered to Jaime to deny the Brackens the pleasure)
Listen I'll make my argument against that with a very simple counterpoint. House Peake is who you really want. Sure, they may scheme against you, will almost certainly lose, but they will do it in style and far more importantly, cause massive problems for your enemies. Just look at them killing Maekar in the Peake Uprising. Now THAT is useful. Plus, they're a big Gormenghast reference which is great. Blackwoods 🥱. Peakes are clearly just better in every regard.

Honestly, adding that deathbed moment where Alicent really believes her father wanted her sun to take the throne was one of the worst changes this series made. In the books it's clear that she and her vile father are simply after power, and nothing more. The blacks are the ones clearly in the right for most of the story. I hate that they changed that. No one should be rooting for the green gits.
