When product activation became an issue, we had no idea where telemetry would go. 20 years later, you could argue that your Windows PC is no longer truly yours.
This is a very useful tool to use especially if you have a legal copy of Windows XP with a licence like I have on my 2002 P4 system. I will have to download it just incase I need it. Thank you once again for sharing.
I found a windows update proxy that translates the encryption, the microsoft servers are still up. I cant remember exactly if activation worked when I last did it but I think it did.
A little while ago I found an exe called xp_activate32 which works without having to type in anything. You do need at least SP1 for it to work and a genuine product key but it does work. If you have an OEM version it doesn’t need to be activated. Alternatively Legacy Update is able to activate XP too (this also requires a genuine product key).
@@kjakobsen Bot sure if XP really counts as abandoware already. I‘m pretty sure that Microsoft still delivers parches ro some companies paying lots of money even 10 years after the official support ended.
Telephone activation still works if you dial the number I activated a copy a month or two ago
Or, if you want another way, just get a volume licensed version of Windows XP and it never asks for activation.
It may not an option if you want to use e.g. laptop's original recovery media.
Yes it does if you change your hardware!

@@RFGSwiss indeed… especially when you‘re looking at all these unsolicited „ad“ menu items, that constantly reappear out from nowhere…
Really cool. I am building a modern retro system and it will have XP as well as 7 on it. Thanks for pointing out this tool.
by updating the certificate store, I was able to activate it over internet (tried summer 2024)

Glad someone figured it out.
This plus legacy update to get your windows xp system into the most updated state are godsends.
I didn't know about this tool, thanks! I was trying to install XP on an IBM T41 just a couple months ago, I'll go back and retry.
I always used a volume license which I got from the place I worked at the time. Probably still have the key somewhere.
Most excellent stuff ...as usual sir! :>
Nice tool! Makes my work with VMs also a lot easier. Had to reinstall them on a regular basis and calling MS for that every time is a PAIN!
I activated an XP installation over phone last year. Worked perfectly fine then. Online activation however hasn't worked for probably 10 years.
It's Christmas Time! Breaking news
Telephone activation still works. I activated my XP vmware guest via phone 👍🏻
Since its abandonware, i think its perfectly fine.

or just use integral edition which is pre-activated hurr
