    I am so grateful for your channel and all the educational videos you make! After watching this video. I believe I have somatic tinnitus. I am excited to research more about this! I have TMJ and when my jaw is painful the symptoms definitely increase in volume. I have it primarily in my left ear, but I experience symptoms in my right ear that come and go as well. The tinnitus began 2 years ago in my left ear, 6 days after a dental procedure. I'm in the process of habituation. I'm coping much better. I do experience noise flairs throughout the day. Symptoms flair mostly in late afternoon or evening. The noise and pitch of the tinnitus changes with sore back and neck muscles and when i feel jaw pain associated with TMJ. As well as from stress or anxiety. I have many strategies now that more often than not, help calm the noise and help alleviate jaw pain or back and neck pain. This has been quite the journey! Weightlifting is still a challenge for me because heavy weights or certain exercises that place strain on my neck or jaw do flair symptoms. Sleeping with a mouth guard helps, daily use of sound therapy, practicing slow de-stressor breathing, daily neck and jaw stretches, aroma therapy, message therapy, chiropractic, physical therapy. All of these are great tools to aid in relief. I am still on the road to complete habituation. But your channel has given me hope and tools to use to get relief. I now experience many hours of peace and quiet. The process of habituation really does work! Stay the course and don't give up. We will have good days and challenging days. I love your podcasts and shorts as well! Bekah :)

    Thank you for this vídeo, I learned a lot from you today. I have some sort of tmd since I was a teen and had also lots of procedures done in my mouth (extractions, braces and implants) and recently the ear doctor said it also. I started to notice a vibration combined with low pitch sound in my right ear at work, specially when hearing sounds like the motor of a car or a car door closing or even something going against a metal shelf. Almost two years after, I have a constant sound in the right ear if I am not surrounded by other sounds; during the day it's peaceful, But when I go to bed It keeps me from sleeping for a long time. I've done only 2 sessions of physio/osteopath therapy and after the second one I got one week of absolute relief, but it came back. What triggers my tinnitus are vibrations in the air because of sound waves, and no sound at all... the lack of sleep during the week is awful.
    Anyway, I just wanted to leave my story here, maybe I'm not the only one and somebody can share how they managed to cope with a similar situation.

    Well, I guess I have somatic tinnitus. I have a constant ringing in both ears but, fortunately, until now, it's not loud. But there are some positions/moves that I do that spikes it. Turning my head to the sides will increase it a little. Opening my mouth wide spikes it a litte more. Clenching my jaw goes all the way up.

      @@PCLanimator I haven't found the right treatment yet. I went to my family doctor: didn't give me a solution. Went to ENT, looked inside my ear, did some hearing tests: my ears are fine, I hear fine. Prescribed some Gingko Biloba: did nothing. Went to a dentist specialized in jaw: my jaw is fine.
      I'm considering going to an osteopath, because of my back and neck. I'm kinda hunched over, my column is not straight and sometimes I get a stiff neck. Maybe the problem is there, I don't know.

      @@TheGuzman thanks a lot for your response. Your path is so similar to mine! My doctors made the same tests to me, (the only difference is that I seem to have some hearing loss on very high frequecies, but nobody is sure if the tinnitus comes mainly from there), tried dentists (no problem there), I was also prescribed that gingko biloba thing with no results.

    I have tinnitus from last 2 years. But today as i was laying down, battling with tinnitus trying to get sleep, a daily routine for me. As i was having a constant tinnitus vibration in my ear, i hit a point on my neck just below the ear. Its like a switch when i hit it with a finger tinnitus is on, when i do it again its off. Jackpot. Mostly we get stressed when we don’t know how to do things. Like in corporate offices. Same level of stress this tinnitus was giving me as i was not able to debug it properly.
    As soon as I figured out the connection between my always strained neck and tinnitus, i started looking for it on youtube. Came here after watching 2-3 full videos. This video confirms I have somatic tinnitus. Never been so happy lately. Even though it might will take me years to cure it but i will be very less stressed everyday as i now know the reason behind it and how could it happen to only me and not anyone i know.

    So please help me out. I had a very very tough 2023 with high level of anxiety, unbearable stress and a certain degree of depression. Now (summer 2024) am better and slowly coming out of this. About 9 months ago I started feeling this noise, strange sensation or you could call it ear fullness or ear discomfort in my left ear. I must also mention that I have a history of jaw clenching, teeth tapping and grinding. Went to my doctor he referred me to an ENT he ran tests on me and concluded I have hearing loss in my left ear put me on medication and it’s been over 2 months and no real improvement. When i clench my jaws the noise is more intense, when I turn to the left it’s more intense and when I open my mouth wide it clicks but I have no pain. Is this somatic tinnitus? What is this please 😢 ?

    • @treblehealth
      @treblehealth  2 месяца назад

      It sounds like you may be experiencing somatic tinnitus, exacerbated by jaw clenching and movements. It's also important to address your non-somatic tinnitus possibly caused by hearing loss. Using a mouth guard for jaw clicking could help, and it's a good idea to visit your local audiologist to treat the hearing loss and manage the tinnitus

    • @dennispetrovic8466
      @dennispetrovic8466 Год назад

      If you turn your head left as far as you can or turn your head as far as you can to the right and the pitch and loudness of your tinnitus increases, then that is a strong indication that you have Somatic Tinnitus. The same if you lower your bottom jaw as if you are yawning and the pitch and loudness of your tinnitus increases then again it's an indication of Somatic tinnitus. Obviously if you have ringing and it does not increase if you turn your head or lower your jaw, then it's not Somatic tinnitus, it's tinnitus. Both are different types of tinnitus. They say Somatic tinnitus is the better of the two because it's a physical cause and in cases can be alleviated or reduced. After 16 years I finally found out on my own that I had Somatic Tinnitus by reading articles and looking at videos because many doctors and specialists dont know the difference. My doctor had never heard of Somatic tinnitus until i explained it. Now hopefully I can decide on treatment.

It’s a quiet roar in my right ear, but at the same time, it causes a visual disturbance,, it doesn’t last long only a couple of seconds, but it happens on and off at different times during the day. I had an MRI of the brain because I thought maybe I had a tumor, but it came back clear,,, I have talked to my regular eye doctor And he has no idea what it is. I ended up getting an appointment with a retina specialist thinking maybe he might know or have had somebody with that complaint but he’s never heard of it so here I am experiencing something that nobody else has had but me.Today it was especially bad and quite frequent. It's very funny how people try to find thousands of causes of tinnitus.... it doesn't make any sense. How can one affliction have a cause in 30 diseases? There are people who have spinal disease and do not have tinnitus.... there are people who are deaf and do not have tinnitus.... you are looking for causes by force because you do not understand the condition. Tinnitus like any other chronic condition has one cause.... over-activation of the nervous system and hyper-stimulation by stress. Stressors can be many things even lack of sunshine so improving your health is important but the most important factor is emotional - you have entered a state of distress. The tinnitus is so frightening that you don't believe it's just from a fight - flight response. and you're looking for causes.... it stresses you out and you prolong this state, you get obsessed.... you won't get out of it that way. Ben has good intentions but errs....
    If one thinks that tinnitus can be from the neck then you haven't come up with an idea where that neck is sore from? Maybe by stress and anxiety?

      You likely have pulsatile tinnitus. This tinnitus is vascular in origin unlike subjective tinnitus. It could be as simple as high blood pressure or stress that can be easily treated. Your doctor should refer you radiology for an MRA or CT scan to determine the any vascular pathology. Pulsatile tinnitus can be treated with medication and lifestyle change or through stenting of a constricted (stenosis) vein or artery. Make an appointment with your GP. Since February of 2023 I have seen multiple types of doctors from ENT (3) to neurologists (6) dentists (2) and not a single one of them can figure this out, so I have done research myself. I have had MRI, MRA, CTs and audiograms. They found I have narrowed transverse sinuses, but the neurosurgeon does not think this is the root of my tinnitus. He thinks it something with my jaw. I came across your video on somatic tinnitus I cried because since February of 2023 I explained to all these doctors that when I protrude my chin out or put my shoulder to my head or stick my tongue to the right the sound gets louder, and they all look at me like I am crazy. I have always thought it came from my jaw and neck. The one thing that will stop the tinnitus is to take a hot shower and let the water run over my head for a period of time which after a few times of doing this I read it is a way to reset your central nervous system. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and assuring me that I am not crazy and there is hope out there to get some help for this condition.

    I have had tinnitus since 2017, I passed out and when I woke up I started vomiting then I completely lost my balance and couldn't walk or function properly. This lasted 4 or 5 weeks and then went back to normal. During this time the tinnitus started in my left ear. I instinctively feel that its all coming from my left shoulder area. I was exercising at that period of my life and feel like it could have been an injury to my shoulder (I often have a very sore left shoulder)....who knows! Anyway I just live with it and it doesn't bother me too much (I don't allow it to) but it would be lovely to hear just silence for one more day.....

      I have a similar type of tinnitus. It is related to my facial nerves (bilateral, but stronger on the left). I have to eat soft food otherwise it goes nuts. If I press just in front of my ear, the tone gets louder. Also, pressing the bottom of my left cranium (just behind the ear and down at the base of the skull) it gets louder as well. The nerve stalk must run through there as well as my face. Anyway, there were times when it would rage, but it is currently calmer and quieter. I assume something is being pinched along its path.

      Similar here, stretching my jaw wide open increases my tinnitus loundness for a moment and changes the pitch too. I get also a lot of cracking and some limited pain around the jaw. Also noticed the jaw got this weird assymetric shape throughout recent years. A local dentist specialising in bruxism also told after examination of my mouth and muscles inside mouth he sees typical signs of bruxism. Tomorrow I will see a physiotherapy specialist for the first time who I know worked with TMJ disorders, bruxism etc...
      All in all, info from this channel gave me hope that tinnitus can be actually managed somehow ...
      - 'Band aid' in form of masking sounds (when it gets really bad)
      - Hope of improving the state in general by treating tmj disorder (which I suspect but also had a suggestion from an 'ear doc' but I somehow didnt follow it at the time) and/or bruxism (confirmed by 1 specialist)
      BTW this specific vid masks my perceived ~11kHz tinnitus well: ruclips.net/video/DJscKr4RV_4/видео.html

    Somatic tinnitus can also arise from no structural issue. I have fibromyalgia and somatic tinnitus is a common side symptom with that. It's pretty awful and only affects my left ear. This is because my limbic system is sending pain signals because it perceives danger from normal stimuli. The tinnitus matches the severity of the fibro, so when my fibro is minimal, so is the tinnitus. When I have a flare up, the tinnitus is just whistling. Just crazy.
