  • Rammed Earth Construction.
    Rammed earth construction is a structural building method of compressing a sandy mixture into a hard sandstone-like material. Rammed earth walls resemble adobe construction. Both use soil mixed with waterproofing additives. Adobe, however, requires dry weather so that the bricks can harden (cure) enough to build walls.
    In rainy parts of the world, builders developed "rammed earth" construction, which is more like building a sand castle with forms. A mixture of soil is compacted into forms, and later, when the forms are removed, the solid earth walls remain. The compression of the earth material is more like building compressed earth blocks or CEBs, a process of squeezing out the air in a precise mixture of clay, sand, and lime.
    These walls provide many benefits as well. For one, rammed earth walls contain excellent thermal mass. If you're visiting a rammed earth home in summer, you'll find the home to be nice and cool during the daytime, without the aid of an air conditioner or fan. If you're staying overnight, the home will begin to warm up as it cools down outside. This is due to the thermal flywheel effect. The walls hold in warmth and exude it about 12 hours later. It's not entirely the walls' doing. Rammed earth home design should factor in the natural elements that will affect the warming and cooling properties of the home.

    Where can I find the technical information on this type of construction? I have been searching information about earth-bag buildings and other sustainable houses, someone knows?

    Витайте Пан Иван,
    Эти дома в Украине? А то большинство фото из мест с сухими тёплыми зимами, у нас такие погоды летом стоят. Вы строите, проектируете? Если да, сколько стоит м2 ?

    • @IvanTuryk_eco
      @IvanTuryk_eco  5 лет назад

      @@AmanKhan-sb1lz there are five basic types of soil : gravel, sand, silt, clay. Rammed earth walls were made of soil that was 70% sand and 30% clay. But the ratio of materials depends on the place of construction of the house. You can also use the ratio: 70% sand, 20% clay, 5% gravel and 5% cement to stabilize the mixture.
