Looks amazing. I was just wondering if the team had mixed the soil and gravel into separate layers of large, medium, and small, compacted separately, the finished product would have been smoother. Just my observation; what do you think?
Thanks! There are so many variations of the method because the material is quite flexible and relatively easy to work with so this could potentially work! We could have been a lot more precise when finishing the floor to grind off stones and spread the slurry more evenly. We also had trouble with the polishing machine getting stuck, making the floor rougher. Although generally it is preferable to create a homogeneous, even earth for compacting. This floor is ideally compacted from 15cm loose to a finished 10cm thickness.
In this case yes - there was an existing concrete floor slab. However, the floor can be laid onto compacted hardcore / foam-glass or even a suspended timber construction, providing the subfloor is immovable and sealed from damp.
Stoked I just stumbled on this video. Thanks :)
Cheers!

Can you come for a work place in DRCongo, we want to build school in rural area using ecological materials. Loved the results.
Sounds interesting, would love to hear more! Could you send me an email?

Is this layed over concrete?
