When I started cycling I did it for mental health, and to improve my overall health and lose weight. But I was worried about my size (as well as what it would look like wearing lycra). I was also worried about climbs (you know...power to weight ratios and all that), but now I just see them as a slightly harder challenge than for the skinny young whippersnappers! Pleased to say that I dropped 15kg pretty fast, and now (to use your terms) I don't give a shiny what others think. I am just doing it for myself, and to enjoy it!

I was just watching you battling through Lyon earlier today and suddenly you are on the Ferry!
I had to chuckle at you both talking about moderation as you chugged through another successive 250-300 km day. But I think you made the points about weight very well. Cycling is weight obsessed rather than energy obsessed, being sensible and letting your body settle. But we say cycling and if we step back we live in a World obsessed by appearance. How do magazines continue to get away with using skinny teenagers as the ideal shape for adult women?
Anyway, what a roller coaster few days you have had. Nobody talks about saddle sores and I began to think it was only me who got them sometimes. But my I felt your pain and don't know how you kept going.
My big take-away was the teamwork, both now and historic. You don't always see eye to eye but a little later you are laughing it off, backing each other up and conquering all. I don't really know your history but Kyle sounds like he was a rock in your past and you have both got into this cycling lark to support each other.
The Surrey Hills await you. its the little kickers that get to you,
    You have done yourselves proud.

I've really enjoyed your videos ever since seeing your bikepacking/biketouring the Tour de France adventure, earlier this year!
About those punctures: have you ever considered running tubeless? It's SO good. And if you pick up a large enough puncture that doesn't seal on its own, you can jam a "bacon strip" in there, and it works a treat! So much faster/more convenient than changing a tube on the side of the road. Plus you can still carry a spare tube to cover the extremely rare case that you've got a puncture that you can't get to seal. I'd highly recommend considering it!

Please try tubless. I use Continental GP5000 ASTR's. I had 8 puntures in my rear tyre last winter and it lasted the whole winter, (3000 miles) and all I had to do was top up the sealant (MucOff). No pinch puntures and the last time I had to fit a tube on the side of the road was two years ago. I ride 16,000 miles a year and have lots of punctures but the sealant saves you so much hassel.

It's a good idea to follow the canals, we always have cycle paths that run along them, they are nice routes, maybe not for riding too fast but for peace of mind it's excellent and these canals are long!!! Canal de la Marne au rhin, canal du midi, canal du rhone au rhin, etc.

Everything we all do on a bike tour/bikepacking race is an alternate universe where the normal rules of life don't apply. That also translates to what we all eat while on the road. There is no need to "explain away" your road diet to anyone as anyone who is judging you has absolutely no idea what it is to be out on the road for days on end.

Do you know about Pegasus Bridge? It was the first objective taken in WW2 on D-Day. By the British. A British soldier died taking that bridge, and he was the first casualty of the landings. British glider planes landed only yards from the bridge.
I've tried tubeless and hated it, overated in my opinion. Tubes are just less hassle and no mess.

You guys are amazing. Amy, you need to get some stretch plasters, and put some cotton wool and gauze on your sore spot, and you both need to buy and use energy gels for when you are wilting on the last few miles. I have used them regularly on my long rides and sportives and they really pick you up when your flagging. You can almost see the finish now - you can do it, I'm so proud of you.

The French don't really understand breakfast. That sounded worse than the Travelodge Box of Disappointment breakfast. I think protein is overlooked by most and I get why you wanted those chicken breasts. I sometimes carry some emergency cheese on long rides. I prefer meat but cheese can keep a long time outside a fridge without becoming poisonous.
I thought Kyle was going to swallow that savory pizza thing whole at first.
