Today, I got annoyed again with this child sized toilet in the half bath of our new house (and I'm a little person)! Just thinking I'd mention replacing soon to my husband, and then your video shows up! He's done some toilets before, but sometimes there's some issues...😉 I'll share this video I think, and hope he watches! He is a wonderful handyman with many things, so I'm blessed!
Hello Tom, I've never done anything like that in terms of repairs in a house but after watching you I feel that I could tackle almost anything if I wanted to. At least in my brain I can. My dad was handy like you and he never wanted to teach us or to have us help which I think is a disservice to us. Thank you for all that you do!
Ya know Tom.. I just love your intro ~~ soooo honest !!. LOL.. & my favourite part is "who holds a valid driver's license only".. cuz sweetie, I've had licensed contractors do work for me over the last 40 years > You are more knowledgeable & soooooo much more pleasant than a third of them, minimum. . ❤😊😊😊
You can only get dual flush in Australia we don’t have enough water to be wasting on toilets. A lot of new builds have grey water systems to run the toilets too. An interesting note on different rules in different places I believe here we have to silicone seal around the base of a toilet after installation. I like these diy instructional videos they are good skills to have even just for simple things maintaining a home not everyone was taught those skills growing up, they are incredibly important and can save so much money.
I usually watch your videos while eating supper...had to wait until after supper for this one. I don't think I will ever install a toilet but you made it look easy, I'm sure I could do it.
Wow Tom after your demonstrate I think even I could change out a toilet and that is saying A LOT!!! Great job as always. The thoroughness of your instructions are much appreciated. Often times it is those little tricks that can save us from big headaches!! Thank you for this lesson!!
Great video Tom! We have that type of toilet and we like it! No more wiggly handles! I'm not going to lie..my husband installed it and it's just not secure feeling. Now that I've seen your video, I'm going to uninstall it and try again! It can't be any worse!😂 I love your video series and am learning a lot! Thank you!💕
I would go a step further and shut off the main water to your house. A year ago my husband tried to turn off the valve to the toilet and the pipe coming from the wall broke off and sprayed water everywhere. He called me to ask where the main was outside our house. He went out there and there was no lever to shut it off so he had to use pliers. The upside is we got newer flooring in the bathroom and bedroom as well as new vanities in both bathrooms that we had already wanted to replace.
I love the disclaimer you have at the beginning of these videos. Not that I anticipate putting in a toilet, it’s interesting to see how it’s done. You are patient and easy to understand. I’m old, I think some of us need a lesson on how to use the low flush mechanism…… some people my age grew up with outhouses!!! And would refer to it as a newfangled thing! Love your videos!
When we replaced an old toilet last year we bought the dule flush and LOVE IT - wish we did that in the other bathroom. Also I would say the easy close seat is the best!
I'm over 80 yrs old and this is the first time I've actually seen someone (1) remove an old toilet, and (2) install a new one!! I didn't know it was that easy (according to what I saw Tom do). Of course, I know it takes strength as well as knowledge and I will leave that to the man of the house or whoever he employees. Maybe I can fix my loose toilet seat? I'm going to try!!
Just a suggestion, I think it would be good to teach people the real names of items and there are many great visuals that you could add. For example, it’s called a tank. A water supply tube or riser. Flange, gasket etc. As a female, I found that learning the correct names of items really helped me build my confidence.
Great job, Tom ! I’ve never seen all this explained before. Really Neat ! Happy Belated Birthday, Tom ! Welcome to your 40s ! That’s still young : I’m in my early 60s . ( and THATZ still young ! Haha !). Love to you and your beautiful Dawn & Kiddoes ! Liz in Buffalo
Great video. I’m enjoying this series. My son is taking some construction courses at our community college. He came home and said did you know in our city we need a permit to install a low flow toilet. 😳 Really? I said, that’s crazy. They went to a field trip to Ferguson. He said the cheapest toilet was like $1500. 🤔 No thanks, I think good ole American Standard from HD or Lowes for my budget is just fine.
Thanks for these how to videos!! Could you do one for fixing drywall in the corner where there is drywall tape? Our a/c leaked through the ceiling and the paint and tape peeled off. 😢 my husband has fixed a hole in drywall and did really well, but never tape in a corner. I’d love him to be able to do it and not have to hire someone.
Good job Tom. They are easily put on as when we did ours I helped out, as usual and I replaced a new toilet seat a month or so ago and that replacement one was a bigger pain than the original one. LOL Never fear however as If I can do it most anyone can. The worst thing is you could get dizzy from bending your head up and down so much trying to straighten and tighten them.......lol but not too bed.......lol but at 77 I gave myself grace and it was all good. Not sure why those darn screws are plastic now, probably cuts down shipping weight..........lol lol.......anyway, good video and actually a handy video as you explained it very well. Looks good! Hang in there as all is looking great! Blessings
Hey T, I wish you had this channel years ago. I'm a tad bit older than you (lol 14 yrs) but I used to love doing stuff myself but unfortunately Arthritis has kicked in and I no longer enjoy putting stuff together due to physical PAIN. So I guess I'll live vicariously through you and watch you do stuff lol
Dual flush toilets are the norm in Australia. Only older, unrenovated homes would still have a single flush. Also, in Australia, our toilet water only comes up to where it slopes down in the bottom of the pan
Did not even know they made slow close lids! Nice! Over the years, my husband has replaced or had to reseat toilets- cumbersome but not hard in the world of DIY. Your tutorial gives great tips!
My husband always replaces the toilets or seats when we’ve moved into a new place. Slow-close is very nice. Well, until you visit your in-laws and slam their lids over and over. 😆
I love these and I could totally confidently replace a toilet now. As a female generally shy away from those kinds of jobs mostly because lotsa men make it sound like to much for us.. Nice tutorial.
Good job, Tom. We have the same toilet in one of our bathrooms. My husband loves it but I don't like having to get up to flush & I have to touch the button, too. With a handle flush I can just flush with my elbow. It's not actually a big deal I guess.
We have had a dual flush toilet installed in a 2nd floor bathroom. I was not fan for several reasons. I would definitely not a dual flush install on grade. I feel there is not enough water to keep things moving.
Why would Dawn not like the duo fluch?😅😮 Thank you for the video I feel like a way better person now knowing how to do this when needed😊 Eventhough here in the Nelherlands toilets a a bit different, there should also be some similar things in installation
This is different to U.K. toilets. Ours access the fall pipe at the rear of the pan, not underneath. The flush mechanism is different too. Different rules I suppose.
I did a repair on our toilet last week. The weight of the toilet was the hardest part for me. Also, instead of a wax ring, I used a wax free gasket. Any opinion on these? It was more expensive, but it was easier for me since I could adjust it/line it up. Also should you seal around the toilet with caulk?
Perfect! What’s the purpose of a duel flushing toilet? Maybe a dumb question, but my Dad always said, no question is dumb if you don’t know the answer. 🤷♀️
Seriously not trying to be a critic, but did I miss the install of the wax ring on the new toilet at the farmhouse? Just an observation. I don’t want you to have nasty leaks later. I enjoy your channel so much. Blessings 😊
Sure about the drivers license?!! 😅😅 Great job! Thank you for teaching us! I think the "how to" series is a great idea! ❤ Regarding the video technique, if I may give a little feedback: I think your _content_ is *great!* I'd watch every single video. But the sometimes shaky camera makes it kinda hard for me.. If you could put your camera standing still, I'm *sure* even more people would watch way more regularly and also subscribe. Just want to give any support I can offer since I'm a real fan of you guys. ❤
I am seriously trying hard to not comment, but I’m losing the battle. I don’t want to replace my toilet with Tom, although he is adorable. However, I am enjoying learning from Tom how to replace a toilet. Sorry - the writer inside me just couldn’t keep her mouth shut. 🫣🫣🫣
I noticed that immediately and it cracked me up! Yes, it would be a bit awkward to walk into my bathroom and see Tom standing in the spot where my toilet used to be 😂😅
Tom. you are a natural teacher. I'm loving these "how to" episodes.. 😎❤
Today, I got annoyed again with this child sized toilet in the half bath of our new house (and I'm a little person)! Just thinking I'd mention replacing soon to my husband, and then your video shows up!

Great job Tom. It cracks me up that some many people are critics. You can't possibly cover all scenarios. I think you do a very good job. Thank you.
Agreed! Thank you Tom! 🙏
Great video Tom! We have that type of toilet and we like it! No more wiggly handles! I'm not going to lie..my husband installed it and it's just not secure feeling. The same thing happened to my husband TWICE! What a huge mess. Now I insist he turn off the water before touching any plumbing.
Yikes!
Thanks for the thorough explanation. You're an extremely gifted teacher.
I love the disclaimer you have at the beginning of these videos. Not that I anticipate putting in a toilet, it’s interesting to see how it’s done. You are patient and easy to understand. You make it look so simple, might just try to tackle the one I've been needing to replace.
And happy birthday!
Thank you Tom!!! Our master bath toilet is wobbly. Lol We forget about it until we sit down. Hahaha!!!! Then we forget again!!!
This makes it look doable! Love these step by step instructions.
When we replaced an old toilet last year we bought the dule flush and LOVE IT - wish we did that in the other bathroom. Also I would say the easy close seat is the best!
Tom, I just wanted to share that with all the wild YT channels in my feed this afternoon, YOUR video is at the top of the feed. Pretty cool!!

You're inspiring! Good luck with the loose seat! 😉

Great tutorial! We put vinyl planks down in our basement 10 years ago without the vapor barrier. We have had no problem.
My husband got tired of toilet tanks leaking so he put a one piece toilet in his bathroom-no separate tank and bowl. So far, so good.
Replace a toilet with Tom 😄 sounds great in theory!
Great video, love learning this stuff, and with my old house, its needed!
Have always felt unsure of myself with home projects/maintenance. Your methodical and clear explanations are helping me. Thanks!
Great video. I’m enjoying this series.

Omg Tom 😂I’m over here holding my breathe while you remove the old toilet 😂😂
This was great. Slow and methodical wins the race! 👍
Wow! TMI! God bless you and all plumbers.

Love this channel from day one. Thanks for sharing. Love ya, Nancy
Thanks, Tom! Love your Demolition Ranch shirt! Your my people!
Another great video for helping folks do DIY. Thanks, Tom.
Omg, my husband did this about 2 weeks ago and this would have come in handy then

Good camera work! Very hard points of view to get.
That was very satisfying to watch. You’re giving us confidence to try DIY!

Hi Kathy, this is 100% true! I was going to leave a similar comment, but you beat me to it. 😃
Did not even know they made slow close lids! Nice! Over the years, my husband has replaced or had to reseat toilets- cumbersome but not hard in the world of DIY. Your tutorial gives great tips!
All of our toilets are dual flush toilets. They work great. No issues at all.
Good instructional video Tom !! Well done !
This is a winner episode for me! Thanks!
Thank you for the "how-to " videos! I'm learning so much! Happy Birthday!
You make this all calm and doable…a great instructor!!👏🏻👏🏻
Oh thank you Tom!! 👍I can now fix my toilet seat all by myself😆❤
My husband always replaces the toilets or seats when we’ve moved into a new place. Slow-close is very nice. Well, until you visit your in-laws and slam their lids over and over. 😆
Yes! LOL. I do the same thing when I go to someone else's house.
Same here, I always forget not everybody has slow close lids.
You are amazing! I love these how to videos.
Thanks Tom. Another great tutorial ❤
Happy Birthday Tom!
These instructional videos are really interesting, informative, & helpful. Such a great series.😊❤😊🎉
We need a whole bunch more of these instructional videos. 😊👏
Dual flush toilets are the most common toilet type in Australia. They are fantastic.
Good job Tom 😊
Why would you replace a great guy like Tom with a toilet ? 😂😂😂😂😂
QUESTION; Just curious why you didn't center the toilet between the walls, even on both sides. TY
Hey Tom 👋 I'm really loving these videos
Love your channel! ❤
Loving Tom's tips!!!
Love all your videos ❤
Many toilets in Scandinavia are dual flush....its a great system.
Omg….ur amazing …..dawn and ur family are very lucky to have u ….u r an amazing teacher ❤
I love these and I could totally confidently replace a toilet now. As a female generally shy away from those kinds of jobs mostly because lotsa men make it sound like to much for us.. Nice tutorial.
I have a dual flush, and kids that visit always ask which button to press. lol.
❤ Thank you, Tom !! ❤
Thanks.
Great video ❤
Good job, Tom. We have the same toilet in one of our bathrooms. My husband loves it but I don't like having to get up to flush & I have to touch the button, too. With a handle flush I can just flush with my elbow. It's not actually a big deal I guess.
Get a small piece of toilet tissue to touch the button with and throw it in the toilet fast.
Tom we have a low-flow double flush toilet the flow is WAY Too Low-help!(even w pushing both down -Refill is barely a cup or so.)
We have had a dual flush toilet installed in a 2nd floor bathroom. I was not fan for several reasons. I would definitely not a dual flush install on grade. I feel there is not enough water to keep things moving.
love it tom
Do they make collars to make it pretty where the hose enters at the wall/drywall site?
I can do that!! Fantastic video 👍🏼
Thanks great tutorial 👍👍👍👍
Why would Dawn not like the duo fluch?😅😮

Such good information. Are you supposed to take the toilet off to put in new flooring?
It’s easier if you pull the toilet before you put a new floor down.
Thx Tom!
Great video

There’s a button for if you just pee that uses less water. The other one is for more serious business.😂
That was great!
Thanks for making it easy!
Seriously not trying to be a critic, but did I miss the install of the wax ring on the new toilet at the farmhouse? Just an observation. I don’t want you to have nasty leaks later. I enjoy your channel so much. Blessings 😊
4:24 this should help. He says it's already prepped and pans the camera over. 😊
Can you show the exact spots you put the screws and what screws and bolts go where. You are assuming that I know.
Sure about the drivers license?!!
😅😅
Great job! Thank you for teaching us!
I think the "how to" series is a great idea!

Slow close = wise. Those heavy seats without this and young kids don’t mix.
Dual flush saves so much water. Only need the full flush for number two’s. 💩
are you gonna install a baseboard in that bathroom?
i need new toilets in my life.
I had to skip the toilet removal part😆
I'm sorry Tom, I had to speed some parts because I couldn't stomach watching 😅
I think I'd rather replace a toilet with another toilet.
I am seriously trying hard to not comment, but I’m losing the battle. I don’t want to replace my toilet with Tom, although he is adorable. However, I am enjoying learning from Tom how to replace a toilet. Sorry - the writer inside me just couldn’t keep her mouth shut. 🫣🫣🫣
