  • Its fair to say most bikes like their bikes to sound nice. With the recent testing of noise camera's here in the UK and post lockdown road noise is certainly a talked about topic. However, will introducing noise camera's actually have the desired effect that people think they will?

I don't think it will be an issue for most, it is for the obnoxious exhausts like I used to have fitted to my V7, not for someone with a slip-on Akro.
I also don't think that they will be enforceable as there could be high levels of background noise when you go past. I think it will end up being like the local busybodies who sit at the side of the road with a speed gun, you'll get a letter saying you have been captured with excessive noise and they will keep it on record for a period of time in case there are other reports.

I think it depends on the “limit”. Any vehicle makes more noise at 60 than 30 and there’s lots of variations to the noise level and also the limit a vehicle can be depending on age. Either it’ll be completely ineffective or despotically low and every man and his dog will get fined.

I wonder where they will be sited. Even with my baffles in, my exhaust is louder than the 80Db limit proposed. My stock exhaust can also be louder at high revs. The legal limit used to be 80Db at 35mph I believe. If noise cameras capture you going when going faster than that but the exhaust is otherwise legal, what is the answer? I suspect they'll happily fine you anyway.
I had a old chap at the side of the road give me a thumbs up and a wave yesterday. It does brighten the day, doesn't it? 🙂

Yeah. Agreed, I think they’ll find everyone and you’d just have to appeal. Otherwise how can they prove the vehicle is too loud. Atleast if they signposted you can just pull the clutch in 😂😂😂

I don’t think most of us are going to be bothered by them.

No not unless they do what the Austrians did and set them lower than a standard bike. That’s just unsporting.

@@AGardenShed they can’t prosecute you with standard or approved add-on EU stamped exhausts.

The noise cameras are for noise regardless of what it is loud music coming out of cars loud exhausts if you sit under a camera with a standard pipe fitted holding it on the rev limiter it will set it off
i read a report a year ago on them its basically any road vehicles making what the authorities perceive as excessive noise over a set DB its the thin end of the wedge we will be cutting speed limits next to reduce CO2 which i think they have done in the Peak district or are talking about it 😱

Blanket speed limits were introduced in Derbyshire some years ago. Most of the A roads have 50 limits. New cars have auto speed restriction now too so it’s a matter of time and of course it’s easier to do with an electric motor and a bit of 5G.
