Christian Slater: “All I wanted was to be cool in the movie.” Dude, you were the epitome of cool to my 12-year old self! I wanted to be you more than the pro skaters when I was a kid... Why the hell hasn’t this film been released on Blu-ray??!
Probably not gonna see it on blu-ray because all the stunt double shots of skaters wouldn’t hold up. They’d have to do CGI face mapping which is at the moment not cheap to do well.
Slater ruled. In my past I drank ALOT. I saw him on a talk show. He quit drinking too and was doing fine. I cracked another beer and he said he quit Oct 29. Nothing hits like birthdays... so inspired I got meds from my doc, and 2.28.25 I am 16 years no alcohol. Thanks Mr slater.
stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckas over DISNEYLAND!!! i still think thats like the most relaxing thing ever... just rolling up on a mini loop 10 feet from your bed....a good workout too. also. a deck building station next to that with a killer stereo system? yabbo was like the luckiest kid in the world, man

I idolized him...& I was a skater too, so when they came out with Gleaming The Cube I was so psyched. I actually just watched it tonight to walk down memory lane. Gleaming The Cube, Heathers, True Romance & Pump Up The Volume are still some of my favorite movies. They were all so fucking rad.
I like that movie where he's a cop and talking to the camera the whole movie. I forget what it's called. It was the 90's. Kuffs !! That was it. Had to go search it and edit my comment. Lol
I thought he was great, but my GF at the time loved him (Obsessed). We went to the theater for a evening viewing of Pump Up The Volume then rented Heathers and watched Gleaming the Cube on VHS. But the hole time my Gf and her/are girl friends would non stop talk about how cute, cool, fun, etc, he is. I remember being so jealous and trying to slick my hair back like his. Grew up watching this as a kid and finally on Amazon prime. Usually when u become an adult. Movies get cheesier especially from the 80s and early 90s. But I cant believe actually i found it very heartwarming here in 2020 and really holds the test of time. Christian Slater was always underated and one of the great actors of the 90s.
I met Tony Hawk early in the morning near my school in Long Beach when they were filming Gleaming The Cube back in '88. Got his autograph too... He was driving the Pizza Hut pickup truck! Saw Gleaming The Cube in the theater right around my birthday in January of '89. Good times!
@@Turco949 Here's the Google Maps EXACT location of where I met him. it comes on the cable movie cannels every once in a while and Fox movie channel will have it on demand to watch at anytime for a period, i always had a VHS copy but now you can download a high quality upload from off of here
What an awesome video. Was impossible to get any honest behind-the-scenes info about the movie back then. Now we get it straight from the mouths of the stars while we watch them have a candid, casual lunch. Love it.
That’s so great! I am literally watching G leaning the Cube right at this moment and paused for this interview. So special! I saw this film when I was a teen over 30 years ago. What a treat!!!
I thought this was a skateboarding movie when I was a kid, but watching it as an adult I realized it was a classic hero’s journey story. Lawndale is the dragon, Bryan is the dragonslayer.
I remember seeing this in the theater; the very short time it was there, almost got kicked out for being too loud everytime one of the pros was on screen. Pure awesomeness! 🤘
I wouldn't call The Wizard a "Christian Slater movie". He co-starred. Definitely a Fred Savage movie. Regardless though, one of my favorite 80's movies.
Christian Slater looked comfortable on his board. Peralta said if they could just get him comfortable enough on the board the movie magic could take over and make everything else believable. Damn good flick!!!
In the summer of 1994, I watched this movie on VHS every single day. I couldn't skate because my family lived on a farm, and the only concrete around was the highway in front of my house with a 65 mph speed limit. I was a 17 years old Daytona beach skater who grew up on the beach and skating closed down hotel pools. This movie couldn't have come out at the best time ever for me in my life. Thank you so much for this flim. It was like looking right into my life with me and my friends as sk8ers.
Two of my favorite guys that I grew up knowing. They both survived so much and are looking great! My best to them both - I loved Tony's skate style - I skated for 15 years of my life - from about 7 to my early 20's and then Christian with his movies - heck yeah! Pump Up the Volume was amazing along with his other movies like Untamed Heart that were simply fantastic. Mr Robot - awesome! Tony I hope to see him expand his style - super sharp guy. Cheers to you both from an old 50 year old skater from SJ California. I loved the Bones Brigade Documentary! You guys really spoke your feelings. We needed to hear them

3:49 That flyaway helmet looks much better than I remember. When Protec helmets came along in the 90’s, it was such an improvement that they actually looked kinda cool by comparison. How you wore the strap made a difference though. For example, unbuckled was cool at first, despite the potential of the strap whipping you in the face. Then there was a short fad of buckling the strap around the back of the helmet. I think rollerbladers started that one, and it looked decent for a minute, despite rendering the helmet completely useless. It fell off every time they fell. Kids who wore them unbuckled usually had the foam padding make it fit tight, or wore a baseball cap under it with the brim. Not so much with the clip around the back dudes. That was only cool for one summer in 1996. By 1997, X-Games was rolling, so everyone just wore the helmets buckled to get on TV, but with the strap loose. That was the cool way to wear it then, though they did sometimes rise up or almost fall off. White helmets were cool around then too. This includes on the street course. I’m not sure when they stopped making pros wear them in the street comp.
Where has this movie been? 4/30/2022 is the first time to see this movie. This movie could been influence on my life when it came out. I will be getting a DVD of this. Christian Slater was influence on me. Pump up the Volume made me feel I had a place. I was very alone in high school and load family drama. THANK YOU.
100 fuckin percent! I'd go shred for DAYS after watching them. Hitting ramps on the bike and bookin' it down the street. I think I still have my VHS tape of RAD in storage, TBH. 😆 And I had a bad ass original Jeff Kendall Santa Cruz 'Atomic Man' skateboard on Independent trucks and some Kryptonics 'Slammer' fat street wheels. I was the shit as a kid lmao. Fast-forward to today and I find myself looking for a reproduction deck like my old one to buy. They're out there occasionally. And Independent is still going so I could always get it assembled with good parts. Funny story. I actually just found my very first skateboard I ever got as a kid when I was at my storage unit a couple of weeks ago. It was a cheap Nash skateboard lol. For whatever reason, I kept the deck and still have it all these years later. Probably close to 30.
*my top 5 Christian Slater films....* 1. Heathers (1988) 2. Pump Up The Volume (1990) 3. Tales From The Darkside: The Movie (1990) seg."Lot 249" 4. Gleaming The Cube (1989) 5. True Romance (1993)
I tell you what this interview was an awesome interview two of the greats there should have been a lot more viewers on your site I don't understand it may be that many people have looked it up yet but two of the greats
I owned 6 of those pro decks around that time. We used to watch Gleaming The Cube and Search for Animal Chin everytime it rained practicing in garages and basements. So many worn out VHS tapes. That's what it was cool to wear pads
Am watching this now for the 1st time. Pretty good movie. I was born in 64, and from 75 to 80 skated a lot. Until I got my drivers license. Got on a board recently my nephew had, and about killed myself, lol. Christian performance in this movie is really good. I can see why he had success as an actor early on. He was constantly being compared to Jack Nicholason back then. Which is not a bad thing to be compared to. Having Tony Hawk to be your mentor as a 1st time skater is a pretty good teacher to have to say the least. I always wonder if I never quit skating how far I could have taking it. "It's on a loop at my house". Haha!
schwaggbagYES Christian Slater was also in the episode Case Of The Stubborns in the series Tales Of The Darkside. Very good episode! Christian Slater was 15 years old then! You can find it on RUclips.
schwaggbagYES The man who plays the Grandpa of Jody Tolliver (Christian Slater) was in Home Alone 2 as a Toy Shop owner. I know that Christian Slater got in some kind of drug or drugs but not sure what. Hopefully he is clean now. God bless you! : )
Wow Slater did One flew over the cuckoos nest? I had to google it and of course he played the Nicolson part. When you see him in Heathers you totally saw that Nicolson vibe. Always liked him as an actor, seems like a really good dude too. Tony Hawk too, not as an actor of course just as a good person.
Love gleaming the cube, was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid but it wasn't exactly original of ground breaking. Skateboard came out in 1978 and actually featured a younger Tony Alva, then there was Thrashin. Certainly think this one is the best though.
How about a re-shoot? All the same actors reprising their roles and do every single scene exactly the same, without being self-aware of the age difference.
The Chateau Marmont is a nice iconic casual lunch backdrop for two iconic casual dudes. P.s. Theres a rumor that the spider high top Airwalks worn by Mr. Slater will be making a return

Robin hood also

Funny story. I actually just found my very first skateboard I ever got as a kid when I was at my storage unit a couple of weeks ago. It was a cheap Nash skateboard lol. For whatever reason, I kept the deck and still have it all these years later. Probably close to 30.
I ADORE CHRISTIAN SLATER by he’s amazing and was hit in the 80s and he’s my idol
My brother taught me how to skate it was awesome thank you Robert

had mad love for this film as a kid
I love this movie. It's like Point Break with skateboards!
I probably watched this movie hundreds of times
I tell you what this interview was an awesome interview two of the greats there should have been a lot more viewers on your site I don't understand it may be that many people have looked it up yet but two of the greats
I just remember rewinding Natas' ollie into the truck over and over and over.
hahahah I always remember thinking the same thing about the helmet
I owned 6 of those pro decks around that time. We used to watch Gleaming The Cube and Search for Animal Chin everytime it rained practicing in garages and basements. So many worn out VHS tapes. That's what it was cool to wear pads
Great memories. LOve THis movie, old school days.
Haha!
Top 3 Slater movies: Gleaming the Cube, True Romance, Very Bad Things. In that order. He's done other shit that's good but this is TOP 3
Heathers
schwaggbagYES Christian Slater was also in the episode Case Of The Stubborns in the series Tales Of The Darkside. Very good episode! Christian Slater was 15 years old then! You can find it on RUclips.
Monkeyland03 nice I'll check it out
schwaggbagYES The man who plays the Grandpa of Jody Tolliver (Christian Slater) was in Home Alone 2 as a Toy Shop owner. I know that Christian Slater got in some kind of drug or drugs but not sure what. Hopefully he is clean now. God bless you! : )
All the above and for me Pump Up The Volume was awesome. Just one of those movies I could always watch anytime it was on.
Just watched gleaming today and I had no no idea Tony Hawk was in that movie I loved that movie as a kid 😆
Watched it last night classic❤
This video just so made my day.
Wow Slater did One flew over the cuckoos nest? I had to google it and of course he played the Nicolson part. When you see him in Heathers you totally saw that Nicolson vibe. Always liked him as an actor, seems like a really good dude too. Tony Hawk too, not as an actor of course just as a good person.
mike s And now in the new TV show Mr. Robot. The first episode can be seen on you tube.
he was obsessed with Jacko
Dang can't believe this video is 12 years ago
I used to go on skateboard missions and dip under trucks because of this classic ish! What!!!!!
I can't tell you how much this movie STILL means to me.
Christian Slater seems so cool. Exactly like his character in the movie.
Don't get much cooler than Slater and Hawk talking about Gleaming the cube
The movie was amazing and they don't make much movies with so much heat anymore. I so miss crazy lovable characters on tv and in movies!!! 😊
Love gleaming the cube, was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid but it wasn't exactly original of ground breaking. Skateboard came out in 1978 and actually featured a younger Tony Alva, then there was Thrashin. Certainly think this one is the best though.
Please don't remake this film.
packerd00 if we do will throw you in a body bag yeaaaaaaaa!
packerd00 unless they can do it justice. No half-hearted attempts
+Bud Fox Yes. That is fucking hilarious.
not a remake a part 2 with original cast
How about a re-shoot? All the same actors reprising their roles and do every single scene exactly the same, without being self-aware of the age difference.
Gleaming the Cube and Rad are two of my favorite movies of all time.
that is a good movie ican remember watching it for the first time in 87 and and agen in 97 and agen and it still a good movie
I have an original movie pister signed by hawk amd getting signed by slater. Its my mona lisa.
That movie is amazing
I loved the movie. It was great
Mr Robot did skateboard, amazing!
The Chateau Marmont is a nice iconic casual lunch backdrop for two iconic casual dudes. P.s. Theres a rumor that the spider high top Airwalks worn by Mr. Slater will be making a return
that's a sick cramps shirt he's wearing
