Popping a Bubble from Inside at 50,000FPS - The Slow Mo Guys
Sometimes you guys put out a video that *really* illustrates how much you've mastered your extremely weird craft. This is definitely one of those times. I could watch that focus pull for ages.
I'm willing to bet there was at least double the attempts they showed on footage to get that correct lol.
@Siatkarz why are you yelling
@@5peciesunkn0wn Oh for sure, if not far more than that. Dedication is a big part of it.
@@jakebrown1066 it's a spam bot
It's true. Gav is really good with the camerawork, and Dan is really good at doing stupidly specific and unusual tasks exactly in the focus of a camera. It's the perfect team
Love having Dan back! I missed him
Aim better
It is the slow mo guyS as in more then one so yeah it felt a little incomplete without him it is good to have him back
Same
@The floor is lava I have a water bucket
Missed ya so much Dan!! Very glad to have the duo back!!!!
I still think it would be interesting to see welding at insanely slow speeds, always wondered what it looks like
It’s just looks like metal melting
grinding too
@@Vaul. yeah, that sounds awesome. you're saying that as if that doesn't sound awesome
Given how *bright* it is, you wouldn't even need to worry so much about lighting at reallllly high framerates. It's self-lighting!
Jumping on the bandwagon here, I really want to see some car stuff in slomo. A burnout, a backfire, maybe even see a diesel rolling coal.
That manual split second focus pull was actually really impressive in itself...
Yes it was. These guys are pure genius and put a ton of effort into their video content. Well Done, Gentlemen!!
I am so enjoying having Dan back. The "dark" years were good, but the interaction between you two is just great!
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
Where did Dan go, and how long was he gone?
@@raph6931 he was stuck in the UK due to covid
@@Badrillex Where did you hear that?
@@Badrillex That used to be the case but he's done with his service back in 2017.
I'm so happy that Dan has been able to make his way to these shores and join the videos again. The banter back and forth really makes it.
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
He didnt sail though. He used the land route.
he dug his way from UK to USA, remember? :P
This is honestly an effect that needs to be picked up by someone doing like multiverse wall breaks or something, it seriously looks like Dan is breaking a hole in the universe at points.
I had that same idea! It would look great in a film
I started imaging the big bang! A 2d representation of it.
The smooth uniform 0 dimensional 'thing' of nothing / something somehow ruptures and instead turns into gazillions of tiny particles now flowing around in three dimensions!
I'm glad I'm not the only one whose mind jumps immediately to special effects when I see a lot of their videos.
tbh that does explain how people create special effects, some arbitrary physics event with some tweaking and there you go
hes breaking the mirror dimension
As a youtuber from way back i remember when you two went from the back yard to a high budget set with full crew...to back in the backyard, and frankly it feels so good to see yall creating together. Appreciate it
Same here and I would always cringe when they would almost break the windows or pour various chemicals into the lawn.
Well done on the focus pull🙌🏾💯🔥
do you mean the dan-less shots where they start focused on the back to get the initial pop then pull to the front to catch the end result? yeah. that's why these two make the big bucks
wrote my last comment before watching the whole thing, you could have been talking about any of the shots, amazing
What the what?!? How was that manual sub-second focus pull so flawless?
@@RPSurfdudeboy my guess is many attempts, many failures before getting lucky.
Repent to Jesus Christ
“no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.”
Isaiah 54:17 NIV
The focus pull footage was absolutely stunning
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
7:52 those tiny ripples that appear on the highlight to the left are so cool. Incredible how much detail is hiding in there
Yes! I was looking for someone else to have noticed it.
I'm sure it's already been said countless times, but I'm so glad you two are back together. Slo Mo Guys is whole again.
" There's just so much more going on than I thought. "
This applies to every one of your videos.
Gav, Dan - you never cease to amaze me with new insights about the world we live in. Thank you.
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
I was surprised they didn't mention the way the final ribbon contracts into a vortex. 4:40 Like matter collapsing to form a galaxy, it never falls perfectly to the center so you get a spiral. Lots of interesting hydrodynamic-instability going on in there. (Like the crown/inverted-star shape of the pop 7:45, similar to the crown you see from a drop landing in water.)
It's so dense. Every single image has so many things going on.
As a kid who grew up obsessed with blowing bubbles, I would've gone crazy at the idea of this experiment
Finally, some of your backstory lore! Must have been like your villain origin story.
Bubbles must have been very happy
Never mind kid-me. Adult-me was grinning like a maniac when it got to the 50k fps shots.
Caesar?
Did you see their original bubble popping video?
As a professional cinematographer props to you for nailing that insane focus pull. I never could have pulled that off lol.
Okay but that focus pull is masterful, Gavin is truly a genius and I soooo happy to have him and Dan back together
its great to see both you back together.
Why?
Were they split or cause of 2020?
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
Agreed! Love it!
@@rogersmith6813 yea they couldnt meet because of covid travel restrictions
Props to Dan for the bubble setup! I figured this would be a really tricky one to achieve, but he got it more or less down to a science.
You mean, *pops* to Dan? :P
Of course it's down to a science. That's why they have those fancy coats. They don't just hand those things out to just anyone, y'know.
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
5:44 it looks like ur poking a transparent wall and its sending out shockwaves lol
Hey, not sure how you guys would be able to do this, but I was talking with my brother about the time he lost a bit of his thumb to a table-saw. Apparently newer setups have a mechanism that when a finger encounters the blade, the blade is stopped so fast your finger isn't damaged. They usually demonstrate it with a hotdog, but it would interesting to see just how fast the reaction is.
Maybe do one shot where the protection is turned off (with a hotdog of course) just to catch the carnage.
Unless it is sponsored by "Saw Stop", I think it would be a one take shot. From what I've heard it is a pain to put to saw back to working together again, and anything stopping a blade that fast is likely to wreck something.
You're thinking of SawStop.
Nope. Not that interested
ruclips.net/video/SYLAi4jwXcs/видео.html here.. guy does a 19k FPS video
I would like to see this done with some UV dye and uv light, I think it would make the detail in the bubble film be far more spectacular.
I've never wanted something I just heard about so badly before
Great idea
The problem is that filming at low speeds requires a lot of light, and I'm not sure if UV lights would be enough
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
@@theRealSlimGordon you aint filming in the dark, the UV dye and UV light is ontop.
Purpose is to increase the definition of the bubble as it pops for the camera and human to see.
9:35 This statement describes The Slowmo Guys better than anything.
This is literally the first video of theirs that has showed up in my subscription page in a while. I literally thought they hadn't made videos in years
I love how, even now they are a RUclips phenomenon, they still have a budget of 10 quid. A piece of plastic and a hula hoop. Brilliant.
The thousands of quids’ worth of high tech equipment notwithstanding hahahaha
@@aadicool2011 apart from that yes 😄
Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it 😂
they've done a lot of very produced stuff, but I think people prefer the simple ones
The feeling of comfort and safety I feel when I see Gavin and Dan together is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. Y’all are seriously a light in an otherwise dark tunnel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you both so much for everything y’all do! Y’all help me in more ways than I can describe. Thank you
I second this ❤️
Watching this at 2160p 50fps.... Possibly the best looking RUclips video I've seen. Wow. You guys make some absurdly high quality content
That pull focus at the end was so clean, this is what i mean when i say theres a lot of trial and error in photography/videography
I love how you guys are so good with your sound effects. I know they don't match anything in actual slow motion, but I love it anyways, it gives the videos so much more detail.
They're like the epitome of calmness
@@xixXxxXxix They should sell a *Slo Mo Music CD* in their merch store
6:16 was really satisfying
if you haven't seen it already, Smarter every day had a good video on the guy that he uses to compose the slow motion sounds for his videos, it is a very creative process.
Looks like a big hole to me
8:23 focus pulling Olympics! Gavin looks so focused on focusing!
You know, watching these guys goof around with bubbles, it’s easy to forget that Gavin is a legitimately skilled and experienced camera operator with credits on multimillion dollar projects. That focus pull was nuts.
It’s like watching Dan in any video with explosives or guns. Honestly it’s such a gift that we get to watch two experienced and knowledgeable people experiment for our enjoyment.
That focus pull was absolutely masterful
That slow mo music will never get old. So relaxing
Can we PLEASE get 5:53 as a downloadable wallpaper? Such a cool shot!!
One of the things I love about the Slow Mo Guys is, how much different ideas they come up with. And then execute them so nicely.
I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see the two of them making videos together again.
How theses guys still come up with new ideas is impressive !
If you know Gavin in general. He has such a fascinating mind.
Well, Dan had a whole year to collect new ideas while they were not able to film together...
I’m sure a clever comment helps them out now and then
I like how Dan's smock/coverall serves as an archaeological representation of his time on the show.
I'm calling it - you guys will one day film the point at which reality falls apart. Just amazing.
Gav your lens pulling skills are actually brilliant lol 👐
On 5:45 Dan looks like he is breaking the glass of my monitor and comes in my room. Breaks reality and enters a new dimension
so your room is a new dimension?
3:46 This is like a thin spot in reality that evaporates as you transfer from one universe to the next one over.
These videos remind me of the old days in the back yard and the giant balloons, they are the best! So glad Dan is back!
I really enjoy seeing the "quick draw" camerawork! Awesome skills!
Always have been a massive Slow Mo Guys fan for such good reasons. Keep the video's upbeat, Gav and Dan.
Apostrophes aren’t used in plural markers. They are only used in contractions or for ownership of something. I also don’t care if I still know what you mean, you’re still wrong.
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
That focus pull was beautiful! I found it so fascinating how the bubble wrinkles in on itself like it's a piece of cling film at the end.
LOVE the end of this!! "Endless fun" as Gav hawks and spits out a bubble he inhaled. LOL!
Dan faces everytime he is on the project is gold!!🤣
The sound effect for the bubble popping at 6:49 is pristine.
I saw someone ask for car videos and I couldn't agree more. The engine, a backfire, a burnout, you name it and I bet it would be interesting. If only I still talked to my dad as he works on an NHRA top fuel dragster and seeing one of those rip in slomo would be AWESOME.
Nature has some immensely beautiful things that can only be seen in SLO Mo. So many wonders revealed.
5:58 should be dan's new profile photo on whatever
That focus pull was massively impressive!
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
100% agree
The wrinkles in a collapsing bubble! So many minutia of the universe on display on this channel. Things humans have never seen before! Truly awesome
I love being able to see exactly where the sides are going to meet on the other side of the initial pop. at 9:28 you can see a vertical line form and as it continues it gets more defined and then eventually each side meets up at that point. Super neat.
The amazement continues unabated. Slow Mo has proven to be an incredibly rich vein of scientific exploration. Loving every minute. Great sponsor too!
=
Never thought you could top the pinball video, but this is truly incredible. Glad we have technology like Phantom cameras to show how beautiful the world really is
9:19 that focus pull is outstanding.
These guys are so chill to watch. Literally Lofi video
Oh how I’ve missed you guys together, keep it up!!!! Love it!!!
Well said! Same!
Watching this with headphones, I really appreciated the Sound Design on this. Especially the low bass hits were super satisfying
Duuude! Your focus pull was amazing!
And this video, once again, brought us to the peak of human aesthetics 😙
I find that ridge that forms in the opposite side of the pop quite interesting! I mean it’s like the bubble knows where the last pieces of it will be, even if the edges are still a bit away, and not even symmetrical sometimes!
Crazy, I never would have expected the back to start to crumple, in my head it all happens way too fast for that. I love that it's so turbulent that the bubble collapsing creates a bunch more little bubbles. What an unexpectedly interesting video
for me slomo guys is all about adding new perspectives everyday.
The footage at 5:40 is absolutely INSANE
6:32 Dan breaks down the protective shield around the base, the space marines stare in horror as it only took a single poke of his finger
I'm so happy every time I see Dan again!! Missed the bois so much!!!
The fabric like wrinkling might be due to the (kinda) cylindrical shape. It might not be happening in a spherical bubble, which is much more stable than a cylinder.
The wrinkle you probably be a point, not a line.
Perhaps the wrinkle you also pop the bubble and you would get a ring as the bubble dies.
The wrinkles are from the outward tension being let off the film and it recoiling faster than it can contract, so they'd likely still be there in a spherical bubble, but I agree they'd be circular
ruclips.net/video/CvEzCkdgnWk/видео.html
I'M SO GLAD GAV AND DAN ARE BACK TOGETHER!
Gav managed to pull focus on a bubble popping. You guys are always such a joy to watch.
Yesssss! Another great episode. Thanks for uploading Dan and Gav
1:28 I'm high and got worried for a split second, that the bubble solution was gonna get in my cereal when it popped
Your comment made me lol. Thanks
Are you still high
Grew up watching these guys back when they made videos in their backyard so glad they are still around
I'm so glad to see Dan back!
Loved the video! Would love this again with colored solution if possible! Might show some more detail!
It feels sooooooooooo good that these two blokes are making videos together again... 😎👍
It is so entertaining when the two of you are together in the videos.
That focus pull was a pure masterpiece.
Every time I watch one of your videos I think to myself you can't impress me anymore you have reached the Pinnacle of mind blowing content. But yet again you prove to me and the world there is so much more beautiful stunning videos out there to be made. Thank you Slo mo guys you truly are amazing.
Gav did a good job solo, but having the Dan back makes a big difference.
Those pans and focus pulls you manage to pull of, very nice stuff! Glad to see you guys together again! Keep it up bois
The shot with the focus following the bubble burst was a piece of art. Great effort guys!👍
The focus change in the last shot was so on point, nice.
Never seen a bubble pop that slow. Amazing footage you two! 👏🏻
Love the video guys, Dans sounding particularly clever in this one. Vape clouds in bubbles is super interesting and would love to see that slowed down
YESSSSS I love the episodes when Dan gets to know stuff!!!
"Slowmo guys bluray when" this is my new campaign slogan, please join me on my quest to convince Gav to take on the mammoth task that is curating a Slowmoguys bluray
Loved the video btw, glad dan is back
It’s awesome that you guys are filming together again. I’ve been an avid fan since I found your channel.
"I want to put you in a Bubble" We feel you Gav, we feel you
That was lowkey the most wholesome thing I heard this week
“There’s always so much more going on than I thought”. Pretty much sums up everything about slo-mo.
Just brilliant. So satisfying!! Best imagery you’ve done yet.
Incredibly cool! I've always loved bubbles, but never would have thought to do this. Some amazing shots in here.
The amount of effort Gavin puts into these videos is very inspiring
Good to see you together!!! Long live your friendship!
This video gave me almost the same feelings as the first Slow Mo Guys video I saw over 10 years ago. For a few seconds the world around me stopped existing . Incredible.
Lads, this is one of the most beautiful videos you guys have put out. Loved every second of it
Thank you guys for all you do. You've given me quite some otherworldly feeling moments over the years, thank you...
Papa Flash is smiling somewhere. Way to go guys!!! Beautiful and creative.
Brilliant! Thank you Gav and Dan. You guys are amazing. Thank you again for what you do,.
I would have really liked a side view of that moment before the bubble popped but aside from that this is fantastic as always!
this was so beautiful and calming to watch, thank you!
