He was 18yo when he recorded Begging, now he's 25 and despite the fact he was already a good singer, I think he got better and better, his voice and technique have improved immensely. Also he's a smart singer, using his voice like a musical instrument and doing plenty of variations and adding clever details. Live he truly shine, he's basically better than the record every time.
Part of the problem with trying to sound like Damiano, is that Damiano's got malformed vocal chords, so the distortion comes easier to him, because I think it was that there's always some release of air (don't quote me on that, cause I'm no expert) He's singing with a cleaner voice on his recent solo song, so the distortion is not entirely natural, but still...
