    Extremely intelligent man. Bang on about the dopamine hits to take away pain for a while. Westminster isn't letting the Scottish government do what they want when it comes to treating addicts when the status quo clearly isn't working.

    Some people don't realise this problem is so bad in Scotland. Irvine Welsh speaks the truth and also about the transition from alcohol which is all substance abuse. I have never liked the poetry of Rabbie Burns.

    I personally believe the weather and the darker evenings have a huge effect, especially for alcohol consumption and then eventually onto drug use. Dark and wet nights in the cities when the outdoors of Scotland are absolutely stunning.

    It's probably a rubbish idea but what about National Service? Young people would be taken out of their communities, have some structure, get fit and be given training. Activities like mountaineering offer challenges and a sense of working as a team. It might be more exciting than being depressed, feeling hopeless and just lazing around.

    I think it is unfair to label Scotland the only place in the U.K. that has big drug habit than England & Wales.But the figures are not great as well,Like Irvine Welsh says it use to be why has Scotland got the most Alcohol death at one time.All I got to say is say No too drugs there is nothing fun about being junkie it’s waste & I blame their parents for let run free with E.

      Scotland isn't run by Westminster, it's the SNP.
      They get more money per head than England and Wales, yet get far worse results.
      It's a cope to blame Westminster on this when devolution put the SNP in charge of Education, Health, Police, and Social Services.
      the SNP could fix this , they can't be bothered because they don't care 1 bit about Scotland or it's people

    Scotland has a major class divide, I'm from Dundee and went to Edinburgh a few weeks ago and felt like a foreigner in my own country. Everything is different from the way people look, dress, act, and think. Social mobility is non-existent in many parts of the country. Your postcode and class dictates your entire life.

      We were homeless when I was a year old and I grew up in the scheme.
      I now have a 4 bed house on acreage near Loch lomond and a take home pay well into 6 figures and a happy young family.

    Nature abhors a vacuum. Pull down the monasteries and churches where people genuinely tasted Transcendence and the false alternatives move in. I dont buy this guy's despondency. There is always a way out. Ask, seek, knock...be no ones slave and slave to nothing. I grew up in Scotland- surrounded by all this. Life is a battle: heaven or hell, til the end and no Government is going to call a genuine truce on it.

    The ppl dying are overwhelmingly older, in their 40s and 50s. These ppl got addicted a generation ago. We had the most addicts now we have the most deaths. Kinda got to wait it out.

    Why does Scotland not have the resources? The SNP get plenty of cash but they under-spend by billions and the also have all the powers they need to govern. Sick of people like him blaming West Minster, how about some responsibility. Why on earth is he talking about Rishi and Starmer? Scotland's issues are the responsibility of our FM.

    Trainspotting film didnt do nothing for scotland everyone elses fault, it only advertised a way out for some people who are not well off, and with low income, drug dealing was a way to make money, I doubt a drug user as access to gaming he would of took it cash converters

    The real problem is simple. Council estates become a breeding ground for drug dealers and drug users. I would say that atleast 60% of people living in council estates take some sort of drug. If the government used there brains and scattered the people living in council estates. I personally think that would work, because if most drug users/drug dealers are scattered. I beleive there is much less temptation and most people start taking drugs because their friends/fsmily take some kind if drug and people end up taking deugs out of curiosity and bevause their mates are taking what ever. Britains drug problem is real and it doesnt seem to be getting any better

      in England with 10x the population, there where around 3.7k drugs deaths in 2022, in Scotland there where around 1k.
      Scotland has effectively 3x the drug death rate of England. Is that to be celebrated

      It's the diazipan epidemic, everyone in Scotland smokes Bobby and takes blues with it as it's the normal up there, yes I know what I'm speaking about as I was on streets Glasgow for months and seen it for myself, everyone was on them and they are blags dangerous tablets. I ended up in hospital stopped breathing of them up Scotland and while I was dying ppl was rifle through my pocket robbed 250 quid and my phone and left me for dead.

      Been an issue in Scotland since the 80s nearly 2 decades before devolution. And drug legislation isn't a devolved matter anyway.
