    It's always interesting to see what works for people. The first time I incubated quail eggs 9 years ago, I actually made a ghetto-looking homemade one using a 100w lightbulb and a medium plastic tote with holes drilled in for airflow. Hatched 7/12 from mail-order eggs with the humidity set at 30 during the incubation period and 50 at lockdown.

    I did a test hatch early March I left town so it was on its own, humidity was anywhere from 10% to 28% the whole hatch, I came home in time for lockdown, out of 120 eggs I had 85 hatch.

    But.. Utah is very dry.. humidity goes down to 15% if you don't do anything.. is that too low? I was going to try dry incubating.. but got very nervous. My first hatch was 100% for fertilized eggs. I'm only on my second.. but first with shipped quail eggs. I hatched my own chicken eggs on my first..

      Dry hatch is best for Utah

      It is too high it needs to be lowered or chicks will start drowning

    I just started up some eggs today. I have a little starter incubator and it requires you add water in a bottle you hook up to it. Maybe I'll take the water bottle off, I live in Florida. Thanks for the tips!

      Good luck and yes dry hatch is best in Florida

    Would you say the same for dry if 10% humidity? Think mojave desert.

    • @helives2630
      @helives2630 Год назад +1

      If I were in the desert, I'd keep my hatcher in a smaller space with higher humidity such as a bathroom with a shower in it. That way the relative humidity outside the hatcher is higher. Maybe keep the bathroom door closed and some water in the tub and or sink to keep the humidity a bit higher. I can say that I've hatched chickens in the winter, dry hatch and had 16 of 18 hatch healthy, so it will still be fine if the humidity is in the teens. I did add a bit of water now and then but it was never enough to raise the humidity above 30% until after lockdown, which then we went to 75-85%. Like he said, don't stress, just enjoy life while you wait.

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  Год назад +1

      In that case no I would not recommend dry hatches

    My little giant temp has been around 100.5 up or down depending on time of day. But I noticed it has cold spots and hot spots. ( mind you it’s from a outside thermostat inside the box) we’ll see what happens. 1 week till lock down

    Ugh. Somebody touched the incubator and the eggs got up to 102 the first day. I fixed the problem and banned every 2 and 4 legged from my room where the incubator is. Did I cook my eggs? Will they be able to recover?

    • @MyshireFarm
      @MyshireFarm  Год назад

      You should still get a decent hatch

    What ambient humidity should it be for dry hatvhing to be successful?

    Is anyone raising quail for cheaper than store-bought chicken? If so how?

      I am buy selling about a dozen chicks every other month it nearly covers my entire feed bill. I also raise them on pasture in a modified tractor setup.
