    Thanks for the review Zack. It's crazy that you put this video out today and our chicks are hatching today. We are using the NR360. We ordered 25 and you sent 30. 21 were fertile. I candled on day 15 with the incubrite. 12 have hatched so far and we are waiting on the other 9. Very exciting!!!

      Hey I was wondering if you can help me. I have the NR 360 and am on day 4 with my quail eggs. Yesterday my humidity kept creeping up to 55-56. How can I bring it back down? I closed the window completely but didn’t notice any difference.

      @@Simplesuburbanhomestead keep the grey window notch completely open. I am actually on day 3 I believe with another batch and my humidity went up to 60%. I just left it alone. Eventually it will come down. Mine did within a 12 hour window. I don't know exactly when it came down because I was at work. Or you could "VERY CAREFULLY" tip the incubator forward and let some water run out. I don't really recommend this because of possibility of something going wrong but if this is driving you crazy, doing this could ease ur mind almost instantly. Sorry for the late response. I work the night shift.

I have looked into the brands you mentioned, but it gets overwhelming trying to figure out which one will work for my needs. This is excellent timing for us. I was just starting looking into incubating quail to add to our homestead. I have this incubator and have had excellent results with chickens, 18 out of 22 and 16 out of 22 for our two runs of chickens and that's collecting in cold wet winter. When I checked the duds everything that developed hatched and made it out of the shell. The manual says it's for duck and chicken and the candler works, at least on mine, for chicken eggs but it's not really bright.

  • @jackywaldon359

    I've used this incubator to hatch out duck eggs, turkey eggs, chicken, and button quail. I've had 100% hatch rate on all of these different eggs incubated in the nurture right. I recommend using a syringe when putting water into it you have more control of the humidity level. I dip my eggs and hydrogen peroxide and diluted and I think this helps with the hatch rates being so successful for me. I don't like some of the features either that you mentioned but it does hatch off well.

    I have 3 of those, The temperature is fine, you don't need a hydrometer w this unit. I usually get all but 1 or 2 of my eggs to hatch. I have even experimented w placing my eggs in the refrigerator. (with the eggs from the refrigerator, about 4-6 wont hatch) If you use the vent correctly, the humidity will be fine. The egg candle works great for me too. I started with one unit, then added 2 more after, they run non-stop year around. For the candler, turn the egg at a 45 degree angle to get a good view on the base of the egg.

    We found that doubling up and putting two quail eggs in the turner sections tend to prevent the eggs from turning over. Rather than purchase another turner, I divided the sections in half along the circumference (rather than diametrically) using fishing line. I notched the plastic on top of the turner at each section divider about 1/16" deep to keep the line from sliding on the plastic, wrapped it around the section divider once and proceeded to the next divider and repeated the notch/wrap. Kind of hard to explain, but if you would like to see it, comment and I will post a video on RUclips. (I tried posting a link with a picture, but it got deleted.)

  • @WC3fanatic997
    @WC3fanatic997 Год назад +1

    Got this incubator and some chicks from SWGB, can confirm; runs a half a degree lower and the humidity is usually off by a fair amount (usually 5-ish up or down), but it was fairly consistent in how it held, and did make keeping humidity controlled very easy. Turned eggs frequently. Hatched 17 eggs out of 35 (2 casualties after hatch). Would probably have been better if I didn't cause a few mistakes for my first time**
    Generally I liked it, seems quite worth the money for the peace of mind from reliability. Some things to note:
    - Automatically stops turning at the 3-day "Lockdown" period if you set the timer properly, so thats handy. Of course, remove the egg turner anyway because it'll get in the way of the chicks hatching otherwise.
    - On the subject of the egg turner, for your own sanity get a custom Quail-sized one off Etsy. The chicken-sized one works *_ok_* for Quails, but the eggs, if doubled-up, would sometimes get stuck on each other and just get pushed along without getting properly rolled, and it would aggravate me until I poked them to get them lose.
    - Etsy also has a lot of add-on items for it; aside from different egg turners, I've seen risers and dividers as well from a seller named CourdtCreations, which may help organize and contain hatched chicks for removal during lockdown
    - Would automatically remember settings and timer if it lost power for a period of time. I kept mine on a battery backup so I did not need to worry, but some people mentioned it and I tested it, it does indeed quickly pick up right where it left off, which would be good for people dealing with power bumps.
    ** Word of Caution: if you have to remove the lid for any length of time for any reason, make sure it re-seats itself properly into the lip before walking away from it. I'm pretty certain a dozen remaining eggs were compromised during the lockdown period because I was hasty and left mine slightly ajar by accident, screwing the humidity numbers for several hours before I noticed and rectified it.
    Al in all I dont regret my purchase. Maybe there are more cost-efficient ones for what I plan on doing in the coming months, but this will suffice for now as I mostly intend to make seperate quail clans for genetic diveristy. I intend to get my next batch from MyShire Farms, and of course the next batch should hatch better since I learned a lot from this one.

    I wish they would make 2 improvements:
    1. The metal shaft is made of carbon steel, and it rusts really easily. It should be made from stainless steel, or even titanium, instead.
    2. The base and the lid have a very small slot; the area where the base fits the lid is almost flat, and it can be a bit difficult to line up the lid when placing it down. Plus the hatchlings can easily walk (run) out when you lift the lid. So I wish they would make the base have a retaining wall of sorts, to both keep the hatchlings in, and to make it easier to place the lid back on.

      @@MyshireFarm You need to know the ambient humidity in your location. I can't even use my Borotto humidity pump as I'm in an area of BC which is dry, and rarely above 15% humidity. the pump needs above 32% humidity to function . (No, it's not mentioned in the manual). I guess back East and in Italy humidity is so OFTEN above 80% they didn't factor that in, but I don't need it anyway. My NR 360 and Borotto function just fine without it.

    Nice review Zack. The instructions for the incubator require the room temperature not drop below 72 degrees (best kept "in a room with stable temperature 74-80"). I see you were wearing a knit cap. What was the room temp where you were using the NR360 and did you notice much fluctuation of the incubator temp? We just hatched out our first batch of eggs using our NR360 and couldn't be more satisfied - 23 out of 32 hatched (didn't candle). Just ordered the Govee through your Amazon store. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, I can kitbash the turner (it stopped working right after the first test plug-in) and I can low voltage a repair, and run the motor on a separate system. I have one. I can't recommend it. The LCD on the temperature went very dim on me after about a month of owning it. So, I can read the "10s" one just fine, but the "1s" digit is very, very dim. I have to turn out the lights in the room to read it. What's even worse is that the turn shaft on the thing is made out of a material that rusts. Given that it's an incubator, that shaft is exposed to humid air whenever it's in use. I had a hell of a time getting the turner wheel off on my last use. I even broke one of the spokes trying to get it off.

      @@MyshireFarm On the rusting issue, mine is about 10 months old. I've maybe used it six times. When washing it, I'm very careful about getting water around that shaft because the motor is right under it and there doesn't seem to be any protection should water get in that area. Right now, I'm tryin to figure out a decent way of de-rusting that shaft so I can continue to use it. There may not be a good way since the motor is right under that shaft, and it's really hard to get a wire brush in that space.

    • @anotherthing
      @anotherthing 2 года назад +2

      Okay, after shopping around and buying a different incubator, I bought another Nurture Right 360. To solve the shaft rusting issue, I've been using a small stick to smear petroleum jelly on the shaft, and I'm trying to get some down around where the shaft goes in to the motor. Still have that issue with the display for humidity on my original one, but I can read it when there's no other light in the room and I cover up the temperature display - MOST of the time. I'd recommend the petroleum jelly since I can easy remove the turner now. I had to super glue one of the struts because it got broken during the turner removal when the rust became a huge issue.
