Eric's legacy is commemorated in various ways. A bar at the Gloucestershire theatre, where he last graced the stage, was named "Eric's Bar" in his honor. A larger-than-life statue, sculpted by Graham Ibbeson, was unveiled by the Queen in Morecambe in 1999. The statue, adorned with his famous catchphrases and a list of guest stars, suffered vandalism in 2014 but was restored later that year. Furthermore, the public concert hall in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, where Eric and his family lived, bears his name and proudly displays his portrait.
Despite his immense success, Eric struggled with health issues throughout his life. He suffered his first heart attack in 1968, which led him to quit smoking and reduce his professional commitments. A second heart attack in 1979 necessitated bypass surgery. Unfortunately, Eric succumbed to his third heart attack in 1984 after a memorable performance at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury.
Gary Morecambe opens up about the emotional toll of fame on his father, who he believes was unprepared for the pressures of celebrity status. Eric's upbringing did not equip him to navigate the challenging landscape of show business, and the responsibility of embodying his iconic persona weighed heavily on him. Gary speculates that the pressure from their annual Christmas shows may have exacerbated his father's health problems.
As Eric's 95th birthday approaches, Gary celebrates the enduring legacy of Morecambe and Wise. Their timeless humor continues to captivate audiences, even decades after Eric's passing. Eric's widow, Joan, and their three children, Gail, Gary, and Stephen, also remember his deep-rooted fear of being forgotten. Despite his concerns, Eric Morecambe's legacy lives on, and his impact on the world of entertainment remains unforgettable.

If Eric had done what he originally wanted to do , after his first two heart attacks, which was retire to his home, rest and write books, he might have lived a little longer. But he felt a duty to return and assist his longtime 'short fat hairy friend' . Either way his eternal foul log of a pipe was stuck in his gob.....

I thought they were brilliant I watched them as a child, then as a teenager followed by a young adult. It was good clean fun the shows done by Ernie was the finale. It always had a big star totality out of their comfort zone. All the jokes about Des O’Conner were endless. I vividly remember Glenda Jackson, Andra Previn who stood out as big stars prepared to be upstaged by the two of them. All those jokes from them while in bed together. No one thought anything about it lol
