Bura (Bora)! This dry northern wind has a good side. It can blow away clouds!

A strong wind, from an unusual direction?
Nice catch. Thanks for the post.

tmc che It’s more that this sheer strength is unusual. Bura(the local name for the north east wind) is not that uncommon but it is usually barely noticeable in Hvar town, since Hvar is in the lee, protected from it by hills north from town. So when this wind manages to “break” here despite those hills, you know it is serious! I think they managed to measure today up to 190km/h speeds on the shores exposed directly to the wind

@@HvarLive thank you for the info.
Your video post put me onto a search to learn about bora or bura-Croatian. Watched some videos on 160 to 200 km/h Bura. I wouldn't want to get caught in that.
      Still loving your site.

Bura is a wind that blows from NNE to ENE, which, along the Adriatic coast, means that he blows from the land to the sea, gaining strength and power as he cascades down the mountainsides before hitting the water, fanning out and causing a mess of the sea. It is a dry, cold wind which blows in gusts and can reach incredible speeds - in 2003 on the Dalmatina highway (A1), speeds were recorded at a whopping 304 km.
The area where some of the strongest bora winds occur is the Velebit mountain range in Croatia. This seaside mountain chain ( 145 kilometers) represents a huge division of weather between continental and Mediterranean climate.

Kaže se Bora na engleskom. Strašna bura je ovo bila. Rekordna u Splitu. ;)
