- I've said it before, and it's true, I'm a sucker for old, rusty pickups. When I saw this 1973 Ford F350 Super Camper Special pop up on Facebook Marketplace, it intrigued me, but I wasn't looking for another project. The ad went away, and then a few months later I saw the same ad pop back up. I thought it was calling for me, so I inquired and went to look at it. The guy who was selling it said it was on a farm and was going to be scrapped, so he picked it up, but he didn't have the time or energy to actually get it back on the road. It's definitely an East Coast truck that had been sitting outside for a good portion of its life, but something about it looked just right. I made a deal and brought it home.
Now comes the fun part, getting this thing back on the road. This video simply shows what the truck looked like when I bought it, minus some of the garbage that was in the can and in the bed. We'll post updates as we work our way through, and around, this truck, and will hopefully have it on the road soon. The kiddos are vey excited about it too, so hopefully we'll get them down in the garage and getting their hands dirty on it!
Yes, another video. I am doing the same with a 1978 Big 10. Good luck.
I had the 72 F 250 Sport Custom Camper Special 23 yrs did a complete restoration sold it 6 yrs ago, I miss that truck today.
Hey guys! Interesting truck! Once you have it done it’ll be solid as it was new. I am confident in that because about 4 years ago you guys sold me new floors and box patches for my 76 F150 4x4. The quality of your parts was excellent and the metal gauges were the same as original. I am really pleased. It is my daily driver and I really enjoy it.
Once you get through the videos you'll that it's done now, and you're right, you can jump up and down on the floors without any movement! Glad our parts helped with your project as well.
Love these dent sides! Thank you for the videos!
I have a 78 Coachman that is perfect for that. With the longer wheel base it balanced the offset of the camper that is rear heavy. My high boy ride nose high. Nice find Bro!
Nice truck! I have a couple of these dent sides. Have a 74 and a 79 both are extra cabs. looking forward to getting them back on the road like yours. Enjoyed seeing what you did to yours.
Some bumpers were gated on hinges for the camper waste water reservoir. Usually had to remove tailgate to accommodate. Some bumpers were extended permanently to allow for heavy trailers as well.
Interesting. I've never run across any documentation on either of these. I've only seen documentation on the bumpers that would extend out. Please post a link if you find any documentation on these other setups. thanks!
Love those old ford trucks. Hope to see this one get done the way you said. Thanks for the video. Can’t wait for the next video
HD cooling too on super camper specials
That big plate for hole is prob that they had a 5th wheel on it. Could be factory too.
the bed is longer than 8 feet.. yours has lost its giant rear tires.. they came with 12.5 x 16.5 rear tires.. same capacity of dual wheels of the time
