- Muay Thai and kickboxing highlight of The Dutchman, Rob Kaman, AKA "Mr. Low Kick".
Rob Kaman is a former professional Dutch kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter from Amsterdam who fought during the 1980s and 1990s. He won 9 world titles in several different Muay Thai and kickboxing promotions, and was often referred to as "Mr. Low Kick" due to his immense kicking power which led to him securing many wins via low kick KO.
Having played youth football at Ajax, Rob decided that team sports weren't something he wanted to pursue, and began training in several different martial arts and combat sports at age 16 including Pentjak Silat, kickboxing and Muay Thai. Kaman turned pro in Holland in 1980 (aged 20) and began fighting in Thailand a few years later, securing wins against some of Thailand's top fighters including Payap Premchai, Changpuek Kiatsongrit, Samart Prasarnmit, Dennoi, Lakchart Sor Prasartporn, Sittisak, Hansu Premchai and Bunshima Roong. In an interview with Siam Fight Mag, Kaman stated that his encounters with Changpuek were the toughest of all, winning once out of their 4 contests. The main obstacle that prevented Kaman from competing in Thailand more often was his fighting weight of 80kg which was far heavier than the most competitive Thai weight classes.
Outside of Thailand, Kaman was almost untouchable in his prime and defeated a host of great foreign kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters including Ernesto Hoost, Blinky Rodriquez, John Moncayo, Ernest Simmons, Jean-Yves Thériault, Rick van der Vathorst, Jerome Turcan, Rick van der Vathorst and Adam Watt. He ended his career in 1999 with 98 wins, 12 losses, 1 draw and 2 NC. Seventy-seven of his wins came by way of KO/TKO (69% KO percentage).

The music to this reminds me of of the movie Bloodsport... It has that 80’s vibe...

While legends I wouldn't rank Dekkers over the likes of Schilt, Hoost, Bonjasky, Aerts, Verhoeven or Overeem.
SPOT ON!
He visited my school in West Hollywood in the early 2000's when he was training Brandon Vera in the UFC.
I was practicing low kicks and he stopped my amateur self to give me pointers. My coach let me know how special that was.
A true class act.

It's a mans fight punk
Unless you're Sugar Ray Leonard
High volume of strikes is good though. It forces your enemy to fight at your pace which is extra tiring for them. Well at least in MMA
That is because the reff was usually there to stop the floater as he flew towards the deck. This white Unicorn should of just went straight for HBO with those punches.... but then you look at his mama mía kicks.

AllAhabNoMoby kickboxing was most famous in the 2000s. I feel like its popularity has gone down since the K-1 golden era closed. There are no major stars anymore.
I agree. In the mma era now, obviously with some grappling skills too, he would be a force to be reckoned with.
The timing of his kicks is really something.
@P C I was not comparing him. I was only using Floyd as a standard of how famous Kaman could/would have been.
What a legend. He doesn't taunt, show boat, fight dirty, it's all skill amd he is humble and calm. He is what a fighter should be, amazing. What a beautiful fighter.
What an era of men. Feathered hair tight thick mustaches. And still 100% badass.
@Technotopia low body fat makes it very easy to look muscular, and most fighters don't walk around at their fighting weight. Kaman was probably 15 maybe 20 heavier than what he weighed in at. Doesn't take anything away from Kaman, just that most fighters are heavier than the division they fight in.

Rob: Yes.
Haha,
That’s brutal. One wil not ever forget leg day after watching this vid I imagine 😀
HAHA!
@@blinkybill9939 leg day doesn't protect your legs really. I was only amateur competitor and I can break a lag with a kick. Having mass helps but then you are fighting guys the same size. Training for power is amazing, it's very hard to mitigate the pain from a leg kick. The other thing is that there are clusters of nerves you strike that will cause a leg to buckle.
@ARIAN THE ASSASIN Because he didn't grasped the spirit in which this thread started and continued.

Surgical strikes - and I like how he immediately stops after having neutralized his opponent. He’s got himself under control.

But general speaking yes i agree
One of my favorite videos of all time. Watched it this morning before church, little would I know this legend passed away on this day. Rest in peace rob. Your spirit was fierce and deadly just like your kicks. We lost a legend today….
He throws everything with knockout power. Insane kick power, and his kick placement is laser like.
More than power It is timing and technique
Nicholas Behak is totally correct. Kaman's footwork, timing and accuracy are pinpoint. As soon as his opponent is flat footed and commits to attempting a strike that leaves them in an unsafe position he instantly counters with a leg kick to destroy their balance. The only way one would stand a chance of beating him is by counterpunching/kicking as well 😂
Those perfect timed inside leg kicks were devastating
Kaman is an absolute legend. Full control of his bidy and mind. Notice how calm he stays and precise and never striking like a wild man. Pure surgical. Goat

I expect this style will grow in popularity as people become aware of how effective it is.
You don't have to put yourself at risk by getting inside to score a KO. Just stay at a distance and opportunistically kick until your opponent's legs won't support him anymore.
An opponent who's conscious but crawling helplessly on the floor means victory by TKO, and that is a perfectly acceptable outcome.
