In my opinion, The Eleven is hands down my favourite song by the Dead. Often times, I've found when it comes to the G.D, people generally have a hard time trying to pick out only one song as their favourite but I can very quickly suggest that The Eleven is my absolute, #1 favourite...not this one however - Bob's voice is clearly shot and it's being played VERY slowly in comparison to the orgasmic fire that the G.D performed it at back in the late '60's. Still, I applaud their balls for having the gumption to dust off this one and give it a go.

I'm right there with you and I wish they had more compositions like it. Speed is definitely a factor, those blazing 69 Elevens were something to behold

@@JUANCARPENTERO Oh absolutely SAKI S. Those early Elevens were out of this world! A good number of my friends are musicians, some more talented than others, but literally EVERY SINGLE ONE of them discovers at least respect the Dead after I let them take a listen to The Eleven that comes out of St. Stephen from Live Dead. It's perfect.
Another song that I've been listening to more and more these days is Viola Lee Blues. Again, back in the late '60's the Dead used to rock the shit out of that song and also played it at lightening speed!! There are 2 versions that I've been listening to lately:
One is found on Dick's Picks vol. 8 from May 2 1970 in Binghamton New York.
The other is found on Road Trips Vol. 2 No. 2 from February 14, 1968 in San Fran. I prefer this version to the first but they're both long, fast and features some brilliant work from the whole band!!
      Take it easy friend!

The Eleven is hands down my favorite musical composition ever. The fact a group of guys went on stage in the 60’s with 2 guitars, 2 drums, 1 bass, 1 or 2 keyboard/organs and produced that sound at that pace is the most impressive thing I’ve ever heard. The modern versions are nice to hear symbolically and if they hit, it’s during the outro/intro into it. One of my favorite moderns is from 09 in Charlottesville with Warren, he brings the perfect tone to complement the slower pace. Glad to hear my dorkness for The 11 is shared 😂
