This is by far my favorite opening to a Bond film ever. I mean how can you top this? Of course, then 20 minutes later it turns out this wasn't the end, but god damn, talk about a hook.

+05Rudey of all the Daniel Craig bonds, this feels like a classic bond theme the most...now all we need is to bring back the silhouettes of naked ladies jumping across the screen
I remember seeing this in the theatre (about the only franchise I ensure I see in the thatre- of course after a martini-shaken not stirred-no joke) thinking "Is the PTS the end of the film/ and Bond's life?" The whole allure, augmented by Daniel Craig's approach gave it that feel.

I know what you mean. The way he was always one step ahead and forced bond to make hard choices all the time and forced him to think outside the box. Like joker he kind of succeded in his goal as well. Best bond villain of Craig's era for sure.
I remember watching this with my dad in theaters ages ago, the intro blew me away and the fact that we don't really have that many duo outings just makes it stick out in my memory even 9 years later. What an immaculate Intro
Seeing James Bond theme like this as 12 year old in the theathers watching your first James Bond movie must blow your mind with as how great James Bond theme song this one is, when you might think this is the standard James Bond theme songs go for not knowing that this is maybe the all time best James Bond theme song.
"and Judi Dench as M" appears just as it enters the graveyard with crosses, dead trees, enters the gravestone, and into a red zone of blood. Great editing job.
I walked into the theatre ready to hate this movie, and then this intro sequence started playing and I was like "oh shit they going hard on this one huh?"
It was released on the 50th anniversary of Bond movies, after a disappointing Quantum of Solace, with Sam Mendes at the helm, Roger Deakins as a cinematographer...no way they wouldn't go all out with this one.
@@dpas2009 Mendes did a great job on Spectre. I don’t remember seeing anyone shitting on his directing. The movie was average for other reasons if you ask me.
I agree. Dipayan, are there any Filipina singers that are comparable to Adele?. I REALLY love your Countrys music, which I first heard at 7 years old, when I lived in the Philippines for 9 years!!!.
Are you talking about the female 007 thing because hating on the new film for that reason is stupid James retired at the end of Spectre the woman is just the next person to take the 007 title, Bond will probably get it back or go back into retirement by the end of the film
@@UnknownPerson-2004 and it's your opinion that the entire series is a masterpiece. And it's fine. We're glad you enjoyed the entire series, but to state the obvious, majority of the fans were disappointed with Quantum Of Solace and Spectre coz they didn't live up to the expectations set by Casino Royale and Skyfall respectively. This doesn't mean you can't enjoy them.
This might be the BEST bond theme of all. It takes all the cliches and power of the previous ones and makes it so incredibly stylish and expressive. It is almost cheesy but it isn't.
I love all of the little nods to Silva in this opening, especially at 2:21. I’ve had to analyse this opening for media and realised that they include Silva in what looks like him being tortured so before you’ve even met Silva, you see that his character has gone through the ringer. I really loved that detail being in the opening
Compare that with Blofeld in the Spectre credits - they literally just took a shot from the film and just added tentacles behind him. No nuance, or attention to detail, just ham fisted, rushed but good looking because it was expensive. They really set the bar incredibly high with Skyfall and they just couldnt match it.
This sequence perfectly describes how Skyfall is. It’s a masterpiece, and a rollercoaster of emotions. Amazing opening and film. Great choice for Adele, her voice fits the song perfectly
I thought this was going to be the last Bond film with Craig. Seemed like they were making it to look like that. Lotta symbolism of "the end" and with Ms death and all.
seriously they should let this be the last Daniel Craig bond film seriously this would make a perfectttt ending with dignity and beauty instead they make a shitty sequel with sole money making intention
2:22 this is my favorite part in this movie, where the B & W transition comes in, even a girl colored pitch black dancing so goodly. just gives that Pierce to Dalton's vibe to it and even abit of Roger to it.
For me, right under Casino Royale, but I 100% respect and appreciate your opinions. I just like Casino Royale a little more, with Skyfall as my second.
out of the daniel craig films, THIS is the most Bond-est intro of them. I'm not even a big Adele fan but she really nailed it for this one, as did the special effects team to make a great intro.
@budgetlightph7814 That's part of the charm of the other Bond's however. They're very fun and cheesy, like Goldeneye is one of THE best Bond films while being incredibly cheesy and fun
This is probably Craig's best Bond film, too. The gritty, injured Bond. His history coming up. Memorable antagonist. The end of M... Skyfall was really about everyone's past catching up with them. Craig's Bond never really matched this energy again in the following 2 films.
@@thygodfather7131 Maybe it's just because Casino Royale was a really hard act to follow. But I liked it just fine for what it was, even though it pales in comparison to Casino Royale and Skyfall.
This is probably my favorite Bond opening. The song, the intro, everything comes together and really encapsulates the movie into three and a half minutes. Plus, the gun graveyard and all that is so badass.
0:44 gets me every time. Something haunting and perfect and tragic about that that summarizes the whole spy world that draws us back to Bond every time.
my experience seeing it, christmas eve 2013, in a theater- was so profoundly memorable, priceless, ethereal , beautiful , unmatched., infallible, ineffable, equivalent to an epiphany. euphonious. the oceanic/ colossal grandeur and electric atmosphere it carries and is what makes brands it into your heart and soul forever. indelible.
if they open it with an introduction like they did in this video, and you have some type of chemical substance in your system- ( such as a narcotic, or any other fun, consciousness altering substance ) i'd say it'll be pretty good. haha
After watching No Time to Die in cinema, I automatically opened RUclips and watched this. Skyfall is my all time favorite Bond movie and it has one of the best opening themes.
@@GCD89 came back to watch this after NTTD as well and thought the same NTTD was an excellent movie and a great way to end the series by bringing everything full circle but the opening song and animation really was super underwhelming - even if i liked the way the faces were portrayed by gunshots, it just lacked the emotion and power that the movie had

ShaDHP23 ..yep...the bond of all bond films......james bond films are as much about you vs the bad you as they are about bond vs villian ...if you dont get it theres always time to die another day
The visuals felt more like a Bond intro. Not a big fan of the song. "You know my name" is still the best out of the new ones, Thunderball my all time fav song.
It tugs at the heart strings because it exposes the painful past of Bond's childhood. For all the toughness and ruthless killer.....behind that exterior...lies a wounded child who misses his parents....sad
Calling this film a masterpiece would be an understatement. Best bond movie ever made and this intro was absolutely mind blowing to see in the theaters and set the tone perfectly. And I’m not a big movie person. I wish I could experience watching it for the first time again
Bond openings set the theme for the whole movie right off the bat. Having seen all the bonds, Skyfall and Golden Eye definitely are the powerhouses of the Bond openings.
I have soooo much love for Goldfinger's opening sequence as well, but in terms of only judging the Bond Opening Sequences alone in each movie, Goldfinger opening takes a solid #3 spot in my book. Goldeneye and Skyfall's opening sequence have a lot going for them in terms of sheer power of CGI usage in their day and age pushing the sequence into a work of Bond Art. But the real kicker that gives Goldeneye and Skyfall the 'edge' over the rest is having powerhouses goddesses like Tina Turner and Adele. The level of art, CGI, and special effects in Bond films usually are created to line up the level of the Bond singer used. For me, its not a true Bond opening unless the opening song is created specifically for that Bond song. So the all those Bond movies that took a song already in existence and pasted it into a opening sequence get much lower ranks for doing such a sin. Goldfinger used Shirley Bassey and she has amazing vocals that watched in present day gives off an immediate classic Bond feel, but if I put her side by side to Tina and Adele it'd ultimately be comparing a level 9 to level 10s.
+Cameron Clark98 I liked the opening of Spectre, the score for that scene kicked ass. The rooftop chase reminded me of Quantum of Solace so it didn't seem too new to me. But to each his own.
We just finished watching this movie in my media studies class, and I’ve got to say - I’m not a fan of James Bond but this movie,,,,it’s crept up to my favourite of all time. This opening gives me chills and I love it so much,,,
This and Casino Royal were a part of my digital animation studies. I'd only seen Casino Royal and some of the older Bond films as re-runs on TV but damn, this intro and all the visual planning/pacing in it is fuckin nuts.
I’m here after listening to the new Bond song by Billie Eilish. I honestly like Billie and like her music but I feel compared to this, a strong and powerful song, her soft voice doesn’t give of the same atmosphere as this. I’m not a Adele super fan or anything nor am I a Billie hater (far from it) but I honestly think Bond intros are better with a strong voice. Just my opinion. 🤷♀️
Aria Gacha I feel the same, tbh I can’t remember any of the lyrics with Billie, but with this I can still remember the lyrics even when I haven’t seen the movie for years
The first time I heard the intro, i got the chills all along. Even now i still get them. This tells a lot about how good this song is. And the movie was phenomenal.
This movie lives rent free in my head. Probably because of how great all actors like Bardem, Craig and Dame Dench worked together. Everything had a sense, and you could really grasp the backgrounds!
I get chills every time I hear this song. Indisputably the best Bond song of all time. There’s a reason she won an award for this song. Big James Bond fan and seen most of them. Longest running film franchise and I hope it continues for another 50 more years!
Indisputably? What in your narcissistic world? i haven't seen a list that ranks it number 1 anywhere.. Goldfinger’ (Shirley Bassey) usually is ranked number 1 on all lists
i enjoyed the initial imagery of how skyfall was portrayed at the start of the sequence, and how apocalyptic it became at the end of the sequence. The idea of Bond within the house knowing he will encounter his past when the storm arrives is spine-chilling. Truly stupendous idea
@Just some guy Who is a guy nothing really the movies were just enjoyable and good to watch. The songs were ok for me especially skyfall and you know my name. It dosent matter who sings them as long as their catchy and overall good songs. Although quantum of solace wasnt great compared to skyfall or casino royale it's still a good bond movie imo. Plus spectre gets to much hate. It was actually good with a decent conclusion for the spectre organisation.......until no time to die was announced lmao
Ragbolt I can actually tolerate that a little these days. I'm not saying it was decent. After hearing Another Way to Die and Writings on the Wall. It is much more tolerable.
Man I remember seeing this in theaters and being blown away by the movie’s intro. Bond being shot and defeated, the beautiful visuals of the opening credits, and most importantly this song that set the tone of the movie. Such a great experience.
I very rarely cry. But when "where you go I go .." and the prism with black and white images that morph into skeletons and gravestones ... I had silent tears trickling down my cheeks. It was probably the way the change in the music mirrored the new tone of the visuals - or it could just be magic ...
@@jonnyelpoiss7 Quantum has terrible editing making any cool action scene impossible to watch. Also at the end of the day we start the film waning to learn about the secret organisation that Le Chiffre work for and we leave the film learning practically nothing. Specter isn't much better but at least it tells a legible story.
Like the part where he meets the new Q who says he can do more in his PJ's and Bond says, 'why do you need me then?' 'Because sometimes certain buttons need to be pushed." Bond retorts 'or not to be pushed; but you'd never know from the side of your bed." EPIC
i love how you can hear the original 007 theme in the piano '''that's the point" lol i know but im so excited for what they come up with for Spectre its gonna be awesome!
+DarthRushy My dad always complains about Daniel Craig looking all bummed out and always wishes for a replacement. I'm okay with it; it's more realistic that after working in the secret services for several years, a person would look more worn and torn for their age from all the stress.
+Amane Mizuhashi yeah but james bond is just a codename, so we cant tell how long he has been a doube-0 agent, its not meant to the be same person from the originals, just a cover
Gaming Greats James Bond isn't a codename, that's a myth. There's only two Bonds: the original from Dr. No - Die Another Day and the rebooted one from Casino Royale onwards. As for the why he never ages and why he looks different questions, don't bother. Continuity was abandoned in this series long ago. Hell, even the reboot is slowly melding back to the original series.
DarthRushy yeah i know, but it still makes a hell of alot more sense than him being the same person who simply doesnt experience time the same way any other human being does xD and in reality it would 100% work that way and not "oh hes not dr who but he simply doesnt age and constantly looks different, but we will keep continuity anyway for the sake of it by having daniel craig have sean connerys old astin martin" xD although id give them one thing, craig looks a little like connery, unlike all the other bonds of whom noone have looked alike
@@rippetoe38 i agree i don't like sam smith but that song was good for the movie. I liked it like you but i remember seeing this in the theatres and was in awe
I hadn't noticed the exact timing of Judi Dench's name listing in the credits when I saw '007: Skyfall' in the theater, but now that can take a good look, I'm not that surprised that it would be in front of a gravestone. I've studied filmography and cinematography a great deal from DVD features, and truthfully, with most films... if you have a keen eye, the beginning tone of the movie can frequently hint at some big catalyst that inevitably takes place at the film's climax. It may be subtle, but it's there - to the point where, even if you don't know what's going to happen. After your first viewing, when you reflect on the film as a whole, it can become pretty obvious 9 times out of 10 what the whole thing was leading to. This is because many filmmakers come up with the ultimate outcome of the story early in the game, so everything else must be kept in sync with the central event. Bottom line is: Many times you CAN foresee and anticipate the big things in movies like major deaths, plot twists, intimate revelations, or character redemptions, all based on the manner in which the movie unfolds in general. The way the music communicates to the audience, or when the film reaches a point where the main characters act more like victims, like they know LESS about what's going on than usual - ALL of this is usually meant to be a red flag that is raised into the sky to the audience. If there's a foreboding sense in the air, over something you can really put your finger on, yet it somehow excites you, or makes your heart pound nervously, that's a good indication that a huge eye-opener, game changer, or some shocking catalyst or sudden tragedy is going to happen in the climax. There actually WAS a point... about two-thirds into the movie, where it DID hit me all of a sudden, and I thought "Is Judi Dench's 'M' going to be killed off?". It was about the time when M and James Bond were in the car, headed toward the Skyfall estate. Funny enough, I ALSO thought around that time, "We don't know much about where James Bond came from or where he grew up!", then lo, and behold -- two minutes later, I see the Skyfall sign, and learn that it's the old estate from Bond's childhood. Both hunches came purely out of intuition and previous moviegoing experience, but mostly M's death. I also silently anticipated the death of Harry Osborn in 'Spider-Man 3', as well as James Norrington in 'Pirates of the Carribbean: At World's End', well before I saw them. Granted, I keep telling myself that I HOPE they won't do that, but usually, that's the very thing they end up doing. All the same, M's death surprised me more than others, because she was so much a part of the franchise for 7 movies, and she was very engaging to watch.
Did you see they hinted at something important at 02:22 - 02:25? It was Silva being tortured by the failed suicide by his cyanide capsule. Pretty freaky too.
I was thinking if they would kill M when i knew Ralph Fiennes character was named Mallory but still a surprise in the end. Also, remember the scorpion inside the glass and Silva later in the film
One-Armed Gaming Wow, never noticed that. That's pretty damned freaky. The psychological depths of this film are unusual for a Bond film. Bardem and Dench should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor/Actress Oscars.
Judi Dench should have also received an Oscar nomination for this film...the first and most deserving of the entire franchise for acting. Dench is utterly tremendous in this film.
Watching this opening again, I recognize a certain brilliance in that it effectively tells you what happens throughout the entire movie, but you can't see that you are being told this at the time. As one that likes good metaphor, this is a favorite of mine.
Yeah, I get that that is part of the idea behind the extensive, stylized opening. However, having recently watched a compilation of all the openings, I must say that this one, in terms of both extant and effectiveness, better than most. Perhaps I should have clarified, but at the time felt no need to disclaim the obvious.
+Tyler “Keeble” Smith I TOTALLY DISAGREE! 1st off, in 2004, it should have been Clive Owen! He IS Bond, & taller, better looking, & a far superior Bond. THE best : Timothy Dalton, hands-down!! Wolfsky9
+Tyler “Keeble” Smith So sorry sir, but NO ONE will take you seriously ! Have you ever bothered to read any of Fleming's novels ? Dalton was perfect as Bond --especially in the late 80's, & more so after the boring Roger Moore! And, again : Clive Owen should have been chosen over Craig! That's not even close. Wolfsky9

So many great moments in just this sequence alone. I love how at the beginning of the sequence, the grips of the guns and the handles of the knives turn into graves. Same things with the teeth in the skull. I think it makes you believe James is going to die.

It was released on the 50th anniversary of Bond movies, after a disappointing Quantum of Solace, with Sam Mendes at the helm, Roger Deakins as a cinematographer...no way they wouldn't go all out with this one.
Sam Mendes knows how to make a film. He went hard on it after Quantum’s disaster
So why the hate for Spectre with Mendes directing that one?

It might be the best Bond theme of all because of the movie it goes with. this movie was a masterpiece
TJ Hooker its so true
Her voice suits this song and theme perfectly.
I love all of the little nods to Silva in this opening, especially at 2:21. I’ve had to analyse this opening for media and realised that they include Silva in what looks like him being tortured so before you’ve even met Silva, you see that his character has gone through the ringer. I really loved that detail being in the opening
Really nice catch. There are so many details in the openings, it must be truly interesting to analyse all the symbolism and hidden imagery.
my favorite part of the song too . the meaning of verses could be subtly different if you’re bond or silva lol
Hes also the shadow at 1:38
This sequence perfectly describes how Skyfall is. It’s a masterpiece, and a rollercoaster of emotions. Amazing opening and film. Great choice for Adele, her voice fits the song perfectly

out of the daniel craig films, THIS is the most Bond-est intro of them. I'm not even a big Adele fan but she really nailed it for this one, as did the special effects team to make a great intro.
Daniel Craig is my favorite bond. He just has the looks, acting and feels of a spy/assassin. The rest feels cheezy to me.

Best movie ever made period.
Casino Royale was way better
Bond openings set the theme for the whole movie right off the bat. Having seen all the bonds, Skyfall and Golden Eye definitely are the powerhouses of the Bond openings.
Brendan Gallagher Goldfinger?

All the same, M's death surprised me more than others, because she was so much a part of the franchise for 7 movies, and she was very engaging to watch.
you sir are the smartest person in the comments section
Why, thank you. I appreciate the compliment!
The title shot at 0:27 makes me emotional. And I don't know why. So good

Wolfsky9
I like writing's on the wall better it fitted spectre beautifully

I hate aging but god damn reading comments like this makes me so grateful I've graduated and I'm done with crap like that.

I've loved Bond films since I was a kid in the 60s and the Bond themes, movie scores opening sequences have often been some of the greatest parts of Bond films. This song is one of the masterpieces.
I’m a huge Bond fan. This movie came out when I was 21 and having the time of my life. I remember the excitement of going to see it on IMAX. I wish I could go back and live through this and every other Craig film. Was 15 when Casino Royale came out and 30 when No Time to Die came out. I will always love the Bond films.
Love this so much. At 1:04, when Judi Dench/M's name appears, so does a gravestone! Spectre's opening was good, too. But nothing like this. So clever.
_So_ subtle- Judi Dench as M above a graveyard. Skyfall being rained down upon by blood. Hmm.
One of my favorite openings though, after Casino Royale.
So many great moments in just this sequence alone. I love how at the beginning of the sequence, the grips of the guns and the handles of the knives turn into graves. Same things with the teeth in the skull. I think it makes you believe James is going to die.
You're goddamn right
Out of all the villains in Craig's James Bond, Raoul Silva is the best. Javier Bardem really nailed it
