I agree with all these comments. Samuel Barnett & Jamie Parker perform this with a high school amateurishness that is perfect and extremely moving. Innocence, overpoweringand bewildering passion make their version heart-breaking.
+Oldkiesel In one of is pubished diaries, Bennett said that originally, he'd pictured a boy whose voice hadn't yet changed to sing this song (and presumably to be cast as "Posner") in part because Bennet himself was a late bloomer physically... but when they started casting the Original West End/Broadway History Boys play he learned that these days (or in the early 2000s, when this was cast) male actors who look old enough to be preparing for Oxbridge entrance exams aren't pre-adolescent. And Sam Barnett has a gorgeous tenor voice that expresses exactly what Bennett intended.
He's a fool and don't I know it But a fool can have his charms I'm in love and don't I show it Like a babe in arms Love's the same old sad sensation Lately I've not slept a wink Since this half-pint imitation's Put me on the blink I'm wild again Beguiled again A simpering, whimpering child again Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I Couldn't sleep And wouldn't sleep When love came and told me I shouldn't sleep Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I Lost my heart, but what of it? He is cold I agree He could laugh, but I love it Although the laugh's on me. I'll sing to him Each spring to him And long for the day when I’ll cling to him Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I I’ve seen a lot I mean I lot But I'm like sweet seventeen a lot Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I Lost my heart, but what of it? My mistake, I agree He can laugh but I love it Because the laugh's on me I’ll sing to him Each spring to him And worship the trousers that cling to him Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I
I barely understand what are the people talking about in the movie, but holy crap samuel barnett is just brilliant and it's this song and his voice captivated me in this movie! I actually cried during the ending credits when rufus sang this song when I don't know what's going on.
Dakin was such a jerk and didn't know what he was missing. Though this song is the definition of a toxic relationship (He can laugh, but I love it/Although the laugh's on me).
ive always loved this song who the hell is Samuel Barnett doesn't matter im now a huge fan the piano in this adds to his performance so much dig that its a guy singing this and he hasn't changed the he to she and sings it with every bit of feeling and emotion nonetheless brilliant
My favorite rendition of this gorgeous, slightly wry, (and very humorous!) love song. And Mr Barnett "gets it," and pulls it off with charm. The piano accompaniment is really superb, as well -- the perfect complement to that clear and sincere Voice. 👍👏👌
this is great! love the bit in the film, though, when he says 'and worship the trousers that cling to him' instead of 'and long for the day when I'll cling to him'... the look on dakin's face! haha
I had no idea Samuel Barnett could sing, I love his voice so much, it's so gorgeous! Also, all the Dirk Gently fans in the comments YES HI #DirkGentlyIsntOver let's get him to sing in a season 3 WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN
love this scene in the movie, really funny. this and the french scene, coincidentally featuring the talents of mr barnett and mr parker as well, are my favorites. lovely!
Good spot Ollie, to my ears it's adding the bulk of the magic here to make this rendition extraordinarily gorgeous. Love the honesty of the vocals though, so beautiful
May I know where this version comes from? I checked the song list of the original soundtrack of the movie "The History Boys", and Bewitched seems to be sung by Rufus Wainwright, so is this a different version that I can buy somewhere else?
This is on the original soundtrack CD for The History Boys (Barcode 5051011709326). It's track no 6 and credited to Samuel Barnett and Richard Sisson. The Rufus Wainwright version is also on it but it's not the only one. It's still available second hand if you're looking for it. Hope that's helpful!
awesome version. doesn't get much better. subtle, underrated and beautiful actor.
richard lafferty yes!! And that piano! The whole thing makes me melt
i loved this scene in the film... 'and worship the trousers that cling to him'

He's a fool and don't I know it

I'm in love and don't I show it
Like a babe in arms
Love's the same old sad sensation
Lately I've not slept a wink
Since this half-pint imitation's
Put me on the blink
I'm wild again
Beguiled again
A simpering, whimpering child again
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I
Couldn't sleep
And wouldn't sleep
When love came and told me I shouldn't sleep
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I
Lost my heart, but what of it?
He is cold I agree
He could laugh, but I love it
Although the laugh's on me.
I'll sing to him
Each spring to him
And long for the day when I’ll cling to him
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered am I
I’ve seen a lot
I mean I lot
But I'm like sweet seventeen a lot
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I

Samuel Barnett's singing is just right and so is Jamie Parker's piano playing.
*Really? He can sing? Omc, I don't know what to say now??? I want Dirk singing in the show???*
Oh, Pos, with your spaniel heart.

michael stitzel I'd love for him to be The Doctor!

yep i'll actually watch doctor who if that happens
YES YES YES
Don't understand why Samuel Barnett hasn't (yet!) become a superstar, after his mind-blowing performance in THBs..........
Ill tell u why,,,, homophobia
@@vitortulio2705 Really? That'll be a shock to Mssrs McKellen, Jacobi, Whishaw et al....
"Couldn't sleep and wouldn't sleep, until I could sleep where I shouldn't sleep." (alternate verse)
Nobody told me he could sing?? I love this so much
I barely understand what are the people talking about in the movie, but holy crap samuel barnett is just brilliant and it's this song and his voice captivated me in this movie! I actually cried during the ending credits when rufus sang this song when I don't know what's going on.
perfection1216 what do you mean you don't understand what they are talking about?
Beautiful rendition. Can't get enough of this song!
Will never forget how I got an A in drama doing the History Boys. One of my favourite films of all time.
what CANT he do?? Talented beautiful iconic man
I can't how beautiful his voice is I love Samuel so much HOLY FUCK
Fell in love with film all over again. It was on BBC4 a few nights ago in the UK. Superb
I love this song so much... makes me smile every time because I absolutely love the play
Posner and Dirk Gently - Samuel Barnett's phenomenal
First rate singing, and the same for the accompaniment: this is exactly what it ought to be. Elegant and sweet.
Why isn't this on spotify smh
Always teary eyed on this song....gosh I must be bewitched with this song...but not bothered nor bewildered.....
I LOVE THIS! BUT THEN I LOVE SAMUEL BARNETT!! His performance as Posner was just the BEST!! GREAT YOUNG ACTOR TO WATCH IMHO! XX
Strange (?), I couldn't stand this song when it came out in the 50's, but love it after seeing it in History Boys. How gay does that make me?!
Dakin was such a jerk and didn't know what he was missing. Though this song is the definition of a toxic relationship (He can laugh, but I love it/Although the laugh's on me).
Dakin was a pig!
An angel is singing, listen.
I think he has some magic in his voice. His range and pitch are not perfect.. but he has IT!
ive always loved this song who the hell is Samuel Barnett doesn't matter im now a huge fan the piano in this adds to his performance so much dig that its a guy singing this and he hasn't changed the he to she and sings it with every bit of feeling and emotion nonetheless brilliant
Samuel Barnett plays the role of Posner, the young gay who sung this song and he dedicated this to Dakkin.
He's singing it about his classmate Dakin, he's gay
phoebe jones ide love to watch the movie but my dvd player is broken and I cant bring myself to buy a new one just don't watch movies enough

Gay people do in fact exist.
My favorite rendition of this gorgeous, slightly wry, (and very humorous!) love song. And Mr Barnett "gets it," and pulls it off with charm.
The piano accompaniment is really superb, as well -- the perfect complement to that clear and sincere Voice. 👍👏👌
love this song and this version is amazing :) the voice feels honest and raw which is just the cherry on top
I'm just crying it is wonderful
this is great! love the bit in the film, though, when he says 'and worship the trousers that cling to him' instead of 'and long for the day when I'll cling to him'... the look on dakin's face! haha
A very, very late response, but "worship the trousers that cling to him" was the original B'way show lyric changed for radio play in the 50's.
The funny thing is that 1950s trousers did anything but cling to you - that came with drainpipes in the 60s!
I had no idea Samuel Barnett could sing, I love his voice so much, it's so gorgeous!
Also, all the Dirk Gently fans in the comments YES HI
#DirkGentlyIsntOver let's get him to sing in a season 3 WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN
love this scene in the movie, really funny. this and the french scene, coincidentally featuring the talents of mr barnett and mr parker as well, are my favorites. lovely!
One of the most accomplished actors of his generation. If only we saw more of him.
This is so gorgeous
This is beautiful!
I'll sing to him, each spring to him and worship the trousers that cling to him
such a sincere voice
What I would give to have been there in '57 to see the original.
Brings back so many beautiful memories
love this version really touches me
yep. i'm in love.
Just heard this. I'm in the same boat! I'd like to get my hands on this piano part.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant!!
Fantastic!

Quality amazing voice Ivor Novello like

Brilliant ...
I cried🥺
I love the Rufus Wainwright version more... but this is great :-)
a bit sad, but love it.
Perfect!
so nice
Am looking for the sheet music as well. Please let me know if you find it.
The piano arrangement is ridiculously good. Is there a transcription?
Good spot Ollie, to my ears it's adding the bulk of the magic here to make this rendition extraordinarily gorgeous. Love the honesty of the vocals though, so beautiful
Pop off queen
Your weird, aggressive comment makes no sense. We're talking about musical arrangements. WTF are you talking about Sofia?
BRAVO
If and when I get married, this is the first dance song.
No dislikes! :)
Can you add a karaoke version? Thanks!
much more endearing than Rita Hayworth's version from Pal Joey.
May I know where this version comes from? I checked the song list of the original soundtrack of the movie "The History Boys", and Bewitched seems to be sung by Rufus Wainwright, so is this a different version that I can buy somewhere else?
Sam sings it during the performance, Wainwright sings it during the credits.

Am I the only one who gets Heartstopper vibes off this?
Prinxiety
Omg yess
Out of interest, what is it you don't understand about the movie?
PosnerQAQ
I love how they didn't change the pronouns so it accidentally sounds very gay
