  • (14 Nov 2017) ALICE COOPER, ROGER DALTREY, DONOVAN, PETER GABRIEL TALK ABOUT BEING FEATURED IN AN ART PIECE FOR TEENAGE CANCER TRUST
Alistair Morrison has spent the last two years capturing 75 of the most recognizable faces in rock'n'roll.
The photographer's work, which is being auctioned off in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America, features, amongst others, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, Jon Bon Jovi and Elton John in a Renaissance style montage.
The unveiling of the artwork took place on Monday night (13 NOV. 2017) at the Victoria and Albert Museum and was attended by some of the featured artists including Roger Daltrey, Alice Cooper, Donovan, Peter Gabriel and Ali Campbell of UB40.
Daltrey, who is also patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, has been involved in the project since its inception, using his connections to bring some of the biggest names in the business onboard.
"We sent out requests to everyone we knew, begging letters, you know, offers they can't refuse, and 75 of them said yes and this is the unveiling of it," explained the former frontman of The Who. "It is an artwork, it turns on itself and kind of plays music from the people in the photographs. So it is kind of an interesting piece and it will be auctioned off as an art piece and we hope to make over a million (U.S.) dollars on it, so there you go."
Photographer Morrison, who also attended the event, describes his experience as "mad."
"You go from Jon Bon Jovi in New York in freezing weather, you go across to see Eddie Vedder in Seattle - snowing - and then you come to see Iggy Pop in Miami and it's 30 degrees so, you know, what do you pack? I mean it is as simple as that sometimes, it's not about, you know, you are going and you're doing the pictures," said Morrison.
As well as being for a charitable cause, Morrison says his work also commemorates some of the musicians who are no longer with us.
"It's a privilege, really, to have so many of them be part of something. And I think, I think they are so… their friends are no longer with us. In the last 25 years - the last three years, 25 of them have died, so. You know, Tom Petty recently, Fats Domino. It's just we wanted to honor as many of those great musicians and music in general, as we possibly could."
UB40 singer Ali Campbell remembered the day Morrison came to shoot him.
"Well it was freezing so I turned up in a sort of flying jacket, you know, with a big sheepskin collar and I thought, 'this, you know, he's not going to want this.' But he went, 'perfect.' And he shot me in my flying jacket and he sort of melted me in, somewhere in the corner, you know, in the picture. I'm just, you know, I am really happy to be part of it, that's all, you know?"
Alice Cooper, who was photographed during his U.K. tour, said when Daltrey called and asked if he would get involved, he couldn't refuse.
"I have known Roger forever, from 1968 we go back way long time, so if he's got a, if he's got a thing, I'll do it for him," said Cooper.
Cooper also talked about his joy of being back in Britain on tour.
"It is unbelievable. Glasgow was great. We started in Ireland, Leeds, Glasgow. We do all British shows now. What I did on this show is that I have a touring band. I do the regular show, they cut my head off, traditional and when the curtain comes back up it is the original Alice Cooper band so I got all the guys from the original band and we do 5 songs at the end of the show. The reason we did that is because Britain is the first place that supported the original band so it is for the fans in Britain," he said.

70 plus years old tends to do that to you. Just like the title of that Led Zeppelin song Your Time is gonna Come.
