Their best period was the first vertigo studio albums pile-driver to blue for you
This is a great collection,and before their heavy boogie brand their psychedelic sound is a great era underlined with the trippy organ played by Roy Lynes-shame that he's often forgot about as part of the band from that time space

I really liked the early period of Status Quo at Pye Records with Roy Lynes, but especially "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" and "Dogs of Two Heads", more than the first two, I admit. I was a real fan until “Blue for You” which I saw in a concert on this tour. After 1976 I no longer followed them, the production changed, the inspiration declined, and the 80s ruined everything, with the pop orientation, the arrival of Andy Bown and finally the departure of Lancaster and Coghlan . I didn't care at all anymore, I had just heard their cover of "In the Army Now" on the radio, that's all.
I'm pleased to see that you too were a fan of the old Status Quo!

There will be a second CD Box coming out later this year with recordings from 1970-1971 covering Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon and Dog Of Two Head. So thanks to Andy Gamble. 👍Please asked Francis what he thinks about that “Fans” taking care of Quo’s back catalogue and putting so much effort on these releases?
The second boxset won't be this year, but next year... all depending on how well this set sells
This set will hardly sell at all. Apart from the few diehard Quo collectors there just isn't a market for this release.@@UnofficialStatusQuo

Found Status Quo three years ago. Awesome. Americans can be really stupid when it comes to fun and well written songs. Sorry I missed their heydays.
Really liked Quo in the early 70s. Piledriver is a great album. Was persuaded to see them mid 90s and actually fell asleep it was so dull. Paul Rodgers supported though, and he was superb.
Some songs from the BBC sessions were blocked by copyright from the deluxe edition of the 1968 album Picturesque, the release of the box set was postponed until March 22 in Latin America, a shame!!
not a fan of early psychedelic quo,but ma kellys greasy spoon,and especially dog of 2 head are really under rated,dog is rarely rated as one of their greatest,just before the classic 5,one of their heaviest,like a heavy canned heat ,better than anything rockin all over onwards,ma kellys is a strange mix of the psychedelic and the bluesy boogie,the changeover album

I’m sure Quo must be one of the most reissued bands, especially by Pye (or whatever they are these days). I’ll have a look at these but I think I’ve got everything at least once! Thanks for the review ❤😊
I'm a big Quo fan and at last a collection that i can be excited about instead of the steady ''best of'' compilations that get released. Love than and your miranderings and especialliy enjoyed your response to the trolls!

Sounds like a very comprehensive set. I can't mention SQ without the corollary phrase "Greasy Be-denimed Oicks", so it's nice to see their more spiffy and presentable years given a nice set.
That first album where the band are placed on a heap of matchboxes is fantastic; my father has a first pressing of that album and it has been played to death (otherwise it would be worth a few quid). As much as I like their 70's output and a small amount of their 80's stuff, that first album is a lost classic. Technicolour Dreams is a favourite.
Love the debut album. Have never been a fan of Spare Parts. I will be adding this to my collection for sure all the same.

Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon, Piledriver and Quo and On The Level. Their best four albums in my view.
Looks like a great set and thank you again for the tour..I love this period of Quo, they really didn't sound like anyone else and had a fantastic sense of melody, i love all the psychedelic posturings.Some of their harder rocking stuff in the 70s had it's moments and then Rossi turned them into a vapid karaoke pop band in the 80s..shame.

Love a bit of Quo ,yeah it's a given/cliche but best is Kelly's to live bit there are solid albums after that up until now bit patchy but still good.
Might pick this up seems like a nice collection. Being ever the contrarian I prefer spare parts to debut and amongst my favourites is ain't complaining.

Quo Live is also one of the better live rock albums, you can feel the atmosphere.
I bloody love the old, psychedelic Quo, before they went all double-denim and dandruff.
Pile Driver was a great Album and they had to toughen up the sound
@@mikem.7921 I like denim Quo, but it was a very different band.
There was a radio interview with Rossi, or was it Parfitt, who said that in the mid sixties, their public face was the pyschedelic singles band which played theatres, but in the late evenings they would take off the fashions and put on denim and play blues and R&B in clubs and pubs. Something like that. So in effect the "two headed dog" was alive during the period of the boxset, ie. the two styles was concurrent rather than consecutive. The Beatles did their apprenticeship in The Cavern and Hamburg, while Status Quo did theirs in Butlins.
Not a fan of the stuff before Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon/Piledriver.. I know some people like it, personally taste I guess. I’ll wait for the 70’s box set.
A bit late but I think Couglan and then Lancaster left when Quo went proper 'pop,.The mid 80,s were a total disaster zone for them.I did see them at that time however and luckily they evaded playing that shit.
I don't like their songs from the eighties. I suspect that they were pressured by their record company to change
I suspect that Rossi had always wanted the band to be pop cheese (he’s said as much in interviews) and resented the hard rock edge that Lancaster insisted upon, thus pushing him out.
Rossi ruined Quo with his putrid pop dirge.
It was Rossi pressuring the others. He wanted to be the unchallenged leader and set about methodically getting rid of Coghlan, Lancaster and finally Parfitt. It's all Rossi's fault. I hate what he ended up doing to the other 3 members of the frantic four.
