I lived in Penang as a teenager for 5:years (in the 70s) great times. We have been back a few times, kind of a second home feel. We are back in October for a month or so.

Not to bad for 31 days in malaysia at 2,83.00 . I don't really mind spending a little more on quality and nutritious food for my health. Transport is relatively cheap in malaysia. Grab as we call it here or uber in u.s is affordable too. ❤

What do you think your food budget would have been if you were cooking healthy food for yourselves... like buying a big bag of rice, local veg, and chicken/pork from the local markets (or could you simply not find good meat at all?).
