My brother and I were given one of these Pollock theatre's. We were bought the cardboard kit, built a framework, developed a lighting system, that was tricky but it worked eventually so we could then put on plays for our parents, it led to hours of fun. This video brought back so many happy memories from many, many, many years ago, thanks.
dear Professor...if you only knew as I watch you wearing this cuddly grey sweater, how I crave to stitch up the holes.💙This Pollock's Theatre reminds me of the old Metropolitan Opera house in NYC...long gone.
Tim's literally like a character from some young adult novel series. The kids live next door to a wizard who presents them with various magical artifacts, each begetting some new adventure.
Ah the GrandMufti rears his sad little head in the comments section. Rather pathetic little troll who plies his trade across YT in search of the attention he cannot sustain in real life. Ignore.
When I was a lad I made my own model theatre out of balsa wood. I fitted it out with lights and made my own characters and scenery based on a play in a magazine and actually recorded the voices and sound onto a reel to reel tape recorder so I could add a musical interlude. With some hand-printed tickets and a programme I presented a show to some relatives. I was thrilled but I'm not so sure they were! I've still got it stored in the loft.......
I'm addicted to the Prof's enthusiasm, I treasure old toys too. I think being his student would've been quite fun! We learn a lot from history despite failing the exam (still can't remember dates)
That’s lovely our Tim. This is how I remember childhood just before computers. Life was a better place to be when we could amuse ourself. Makes me wonder🥲
My great grandmother a Victorian as she met Queen Victoria,as a child during the 1890s jubilee , gave her a bunch of flowers As a small child our mum dad kids lodged with her ..she had one of these ,my brother and me used play with the toy theatre . Showing my age now
Being a film fan as soon as i saw it I thought of "Fanny + Alexander" which you went on to mention. I remember Alexander so taken with it 🇮🇳 the lovely opening sequence ; a gr8 cinematic moment!I I'm not surprised you found day to day politics a bit limiting +, for me , this is a perfect start to you branching out a bit. Breathe a big sigh of relief!
That is delightful and quite rare for one to be in such good condition. I suggest you scan and print off copies of the characters, or make fresh ones based on politicians. Is that Matt Hanckock snogging in the stationary cupboard?
(chorus) : ... " What a load of Pollocks ! " - To be fair I used to do that kind of thing as a Child - Create Your Own Images, Scenery and Storylines - Great Use of the Mind for appreciation - Very useful Indeed
With the available lighting lowered, utilising the theatre's lighting - tea lights or their equivalent - I imagine that it would be the source of much delight in an era with no electricity. 'Charm' is something that is in short supply these days. In Bath, ten or so years ago, 'we' had a children's theatre down by Pultney Weir that included puppets and a version of Punch & Judy - much tamed down - that had all the requisite charm and wonder of that era.
Oh my word! I had to ‘double take’ the title of this upload 😁🤔😂 Thanks prof😁 I’m loving the tiny theatre 😁 it’s like a dollhouse for music hall nerds 🤪 BTW the audio is great 👍🏽 I’m not sure why it was only that 1 upload which was difficult to hear
When the time comes, my good intentioned distraction, at what will be a low time, would be look at the old 'Pink Panther' cartoon, do you remember in some he was seen arriving in Delorian sports car....I think there was a little bit of Pink Panther in your old friend. Finally it's crossed my mind about that name , is it perhaps the opposite of what most cats natures consist , that of obedience

What a delightful toy theatre - was this for children or adults? It is so sad that a kid’s room today tends to be filled with plastic junk with annoying electronic “music”. When my GD plays with her toys she speaks in an American accent, all acquired from said plastic c*bp.
Professor, I do love 💕 to hear the knowledge you have in your podcast. That was simply magical.
Very interesting professor. Thank you sir.

What a lovely piece of history, thanks for sharing.
This is magical. Thank you for sharing Professor Tim.
I've never heard of these. That's lovely . What a cheering video for these times.
Aside from the theatre, I could not help notice the old fashioned telephone behind, that took me back 30 odd years 😆

Like his cardigan with its huge holes and worn sleeves. Straight out of a character from Dickens.

Very witty👍
Professor Tim is a veritable Phineas J Woopee! Now all he needs is a talking penguin and walrus!

Fascinating but so fragile. Interesting that you had to paint it yourself. the whole experience of such a theatre was so tactile.
What a beautiful surprise. Wonderful 🍀🍀🍀
Love it, thanks for sharing, you're such a legend Professor.
Looking forward to you utilising your newly acquired specimen. Btw your cardigan looks like a see-through theatre as well.

As soon as I saw that … I thought that’s undoubtedly absolute Pollocks.
Fascinating stuff -the politics is ok but I am looking forward to seeing the theatre in action.

You should visit the Pilkington House (museum) in Derby, Tim, which has a very impressive collection of puppet theatres on display.
