The lack of people skills applies to older people as well.

Every bad interaction I've had with people lately has been with those over 65.

Disagree, everything in the UK began to rapidly deteriorate after the 08' crash.

You are so right ✅️ the rudeness is quite maddening. Everyone looks utterly miserable now. Basic common decency is void in most folk. Social media has a lot to blame for it. I just detest this country now. Be the change you want to see 😊

I agree about the rudeness, but we are also very lucky to live in the UK - it's not perfect - but it's better than many...

I agree. When I came back from living in the states for a few years, I noticed an air of depression about the British. BUT you do come across lovely, friendly people, too. And we are lucky to live in the UK - I know it's not perfect - but we have a lot to be thankful for. I also wonder if the 'shutting down' from others, arises from multiple negative experiences with people. Imagine having to deal with the public, all day every day - you would have to put up with so much...

Some people have always been like this. I often chat to people in queues and they seem reasonably ok to me. Things are tough right now for a lot of people, it's hard to stay happy and beaming when you're running out of money and you can't switch your heating on.

Agree I work part time at a bar alongside full time work, soo many people are down right aggressively offensive to staff ,bizzar going to a bar and being angry and in a mood!

I entirely agree with you on everything feeling so unfriendly at times.
Personally, as someone who struggles as is with social anxiety it doesn't help when you know that everywhere you're just going to be met with attitude from rude people. People can't even do basic things like queuing for a bus, and it makes everything a nightmare, there's no social etiquette.
In part I can understand being depressed with how things are going these days but everyone acting that way everywhere doesn't make for a good atmosphere at all in public. I'm trying to get better at talking to people in general as a young person but it can be really disarming when it feels like nobody wants to talk to you either, they're just there to get their job done and that's that. More people need to address this!!

Thank you so much for expressing your views and your experiences. I'm really upset by people's rudeness and uncaring attitudes at times. It seems so sad and such a shame. Thankfully, not every-one is like that. People seem better in smaller communities. Clubs too are often very friendly and supportive. I occasionally work for a social club for people with disabilities, run by a charity, that is so lovely kind and supportive. Sadly, selfish attitudes and behaviour are otherwise often all too common and I wish people could grow up leaning to be more polite and caring towards others. Perhaps, there are not enough positive older role models around with decent values. It's all a bit "me first" at times, even at the bus stop!

@JohnEbrington-d7b Hey, thank you for your reply! Clubs do sound like a good way of meeting decent people since there's usually common ground with the people there, relatability and more care since its community based. It sounds like amazing work you do at the social clubs!
I also agree about there needing to be more positive role models too, I'd say my generation doesn't have much of that sadly. And the people we do have get walked all over because there's not really much respect for them?? People simply cannot hear out other viewpoints too, I think it'd be more valuable to actually listen to what older people have to say for once because there's always truth there I think. They're people who knew a time where things weren't really like this so they have their own experiences to share.

Personally prefer a competent NHS consultant as opposed to somebody that isn't but smiles. If you can get both skills all the better but I can live without the latter, literally.

Our social skills are so bad because you have to be very careful what you say, nobody can take a joke anymore and we’re very sensitive. Social media and the internet have a lot to blame for our social skills

Im british and moved to singapore 30 years ago. I miss the uk its so easy and simple to stand out and be good as average level is low.
In Singapore its the top of the top with people getting the highest standards imagine six a levels is the norm. There is no scope here for average even for basic jobs most have a high level of education.
The uk supermarkets are a delight so many products and so spacious. Its just too easy in the uk, if one has a house and job.
I chose the wrong country frankly in hindsight if I lived there and bought a house it would be a breeze if one doesnt get sucked down by the misery of the media and people.

Students normally sit three A' Levels, but some sit four, and others as few as two. This would still deliver the points required for some UK universities.
