- Sarah and Jess met in college and have been on many adventures together. Their newest adventures feature a 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cargo Van (High Roof, 170”, 2500, i4 Gas 9-Speed Turbo Engine) DIY homemade conversion camper van. In this video the couple provides a tour inside and out of their campervan. They also provide insight on why they designed things in certain ways and the modifications needed after using it for a while.

Mine too. Practical, and convenient Cozy and functional ... seemed complete and essential.
Idk to me it needed an a/c I am to hot natured and way to many windows for my taste. But the floor layout is great

Will Garmer i didn’t mean to say that it isn’t attractive, but sometimes I feel like these vans sacrifice some of their utility for style. I don’t think they did that here at all

This is the only design i saw that looks actually spacious. 2 people can actually enter the van n not walk sideways just to reach the bed. Plus not a lot of adjustments on screws or panels or what not just to be able to sit or use a table. Its convenient and clean. Everything is well thought of!
Finally someone who didn't downsize but insist on having a full sized kitchen in a van: Tiny Housers: "I need a double sink, full fridge, more counter space than my old house and full four burner. I keep my belongings in this cup and sleep on those two potatoes". This is a sweet layout. Edit: Little Golden Retriever becomes big Golden Retriever fast lol

I've been watching many van tour videos and have come to the conclusion that if I were to live like this I would chose to extend the bathroom a bit more and get rid of the kitchen. I feel like a comfortable place to get clean is more important to me. Maybe fit a little dinette for me to eat my store bought food or do some work on the computer.
Great build! I gasped when the closets/cabinets by the bed extended out as far as they did. And so clean too. Good luck to both of them!

Yeah, that closet space is the nicest that I’ve seen in a van.
Loved the plants and how neat the inside looks. I think it’s a smart choice to have less counter space but a shower instead. I think it’s an easy fix to have a foldable cap on top of that laundry storage. It can fold out to have more space to sit on.

Good Tips!:
1. For their electric build, they definitely recommend Lithium batteries for space saving and better power output. A lot more expensive but worth it.
2. State Farm was the only company that would insure their custom build as is!

Beautiful conversion. I love the fact that you went all electric. I lived on a sailboat for a few years and had propane. It made me really nervous to have the tank 20 feet from where I slept even though it was outside in a proper propane Locker. I see van conversions where people are sleeping on top of the propane tank. They don't explode very often but they do it's game over.

Wow, so clean! Their minimalism really made their design work. I love the spacious simplicity. As other posters mentioned, camera work is brilliant as you circle the van.

Beautiful build! I think I would only find a way to add a heater of some sort. I guess a small electric space heater would work to take the chill off. Great tour.
They have the nest closet I have ever seen and I love how they managed to keep their trap door for security but make it blend seamlessly into the wall.
One word Awesome. The art of interviewing. Let the subject speak & ask the most relevant questions. The camera work was excellent. As for the girls, what an adventure they are living. Hats off to their spirit of living life to the fullest.

A very organized van. Love the design. Having a bathroom is very important, I don’t understand how some vans don’t have showers or don’t even have toilet
Agree. Toilet is something we use daily. Many say they use businesses like gyms, but why not have your own? Bathroom is first priority for me.

This is one of the BEST van builds I have ever seen! All the "creature comforts", seems like it would be fairly spacious, did not give me claustrophobia! So much well-thought out storage, LOVE the self contained bathroom and shower. And I love that the bed is permanent, not folding into a couch or something. I would not want to fiddle with setting up my bed every single night like so many van builds.
I really appreciate that you don't talk too much during the tours and when you do you ask good questions.

This house is perfect in any context, it has everything one needs in some way is included in that small space, but despite the measures it makes you feel comfortable and the design
So everything looks perfect instead of cluttered, it really makes you feel at home, and also the detail that a shower has been added is simply amazing!
The power issue when plugging in at friends house is most house outlets are 15 amps where as campgrounds are 30 or 50 amps.

This van can run 100% just in 15amp

Hey Beth, spot on! They're impressive and delightful. I'm on a strict budget saving money for a possible future van-life. I have some other concerns, since I'm severely disabled and use a power wheelchair. But I do very well with a small space and everything within reach. My main concern would be ability to swim 3 x a week. Since most YMCAs and gyms don't do day passes, or they are very expensive...at $25/day and needing 3 x a week, van life would cost me $300/month for swimming alone. Well, I'm sure a solution will present itself, when the time comes. But I spend 20/24 hours in bed, so having a bed on the road is perfect! @jass singh If the dog gets washed weekly in the shower and brushed daily it can't be that bad? Other cultures have lived in close proximity with their animals such as hunter gatherers, sheep herders.
People have domesticated animals by first having wolves with them. Much like cats sleep on top of their owners. Although with cats, it seems even my little kitten owns me! Domesticated animals also provide warmth before there was central heating.
I often notice that dogs don't smell nice even if their owners live in houses...bad dental health, no daily brushing and lack of occasional bathing seems to be the culprit. Cats seems to clean themselves better, so dog owners just need to give their puppies a little extra TLC whether they live in a house, apartment, tiny home, van or a boat!

The small seat looks very adequate for u two! Maybe if someone is large it wouldn't work but ...well the van was custom made for you two ...so it works. Happy bonuses love 💘 your attitude...

I have seen a lot of van, bus and tiny houses and this is hands down one of the best ones I have ever seen! It’s so beautiful and full of storage, everything works and every little thing has been thought out. With all of the windows it really opens up the place and makes it seem so big, and it’s just over all one of the best builds ever! 😁😍🤩🥰

The removable slat flooring in the shower is brilliant. I also liked having a toaster oven in a drawer - definite space saver. A very thoughtful build. I have the same plant myself, and it will be with me in my own upcoming build.

That is a great build! I like they chose to get the door to the front. Two girls traveling alone need to be able to make a quick get-away just in case. I wondered about doing a van in one of those 4 cylinder Sprinter vans. I guess it does have the cargo capacity. Very nice ladies, safe travels!!

This conversion is my favorite…I’d add a small shelf next to the bed(higher up on the side wall) and use it to keep my water bottle,phone or even some books

Beautifully done van! I especially like the way you’ve maximized storage, and the way you’ve kept the ambiance to light colors. Makes it seem larger inside! Also, thanks for showing us what a little green from plants can do for providing a warm appearance!

A quick tip. Check out the larger chain truck stops like Luvs and Pilot for showers. They are kept nicely updated and cleaned in between people. They also have clean towels and wash cloths that aren’t paper thin. If you get gas there also, they have a card to accumulate points and get free showers. We use them when going on road trips.

Hello, great build. A tiny tip. You can make your "not seat" into a seat if you take the upholstery off the original lid and add a bigger top and reupholtser. Maybe a tiny necessary change before the weather gets too cold and you need to spend more time inside. You guys are so awesome.

This is the best van conversion I've seen! Very little I'd change for my personal preference but other than that, you have it all covered and it looks comfy, spacious and practical. Love It!

That was a good question on the insurance. I’m 20,000 into a build now and hoping I’ll be able to insure it when it’s done. I inquired at the start and was told I needed a sink and sleeping area. I’ll be calling the agent in two more weeks and crossing my fingers.

40 gal of water plus toilet and bath and queen size bed. That's just something that you can have to live without relying outside.

Love the rope trim. Very well thought out. In my summer cottage 1/2 bath I have a small ledge around the room at the eight foot height break with a 1" hemp rope in place of crown. Looks very nautical. There will be rope trim in my build! I will be building it in my head and jotting down clever ideas, sketching floor plans and elevations, and sourcing the right vendors to get the best bang for the buck. I have remodeled and restored older homes and remodeled and flipped houses enough to be able to amaze people with the materials that can be salvaged or re-purposed. I am just starting a box truck conversion on a 1986 F600 /w D,etroit diesel, 5 spd with 2 spd rear end.. Long story about that... I need to start a journal...

putting the condenser under the van is what we are doing because we think that having it under the van where it is naturally cooler will help it be more efficient....So good choice on that....

We had like two box springs made because moisture will start. The box springs raise up like crates & you have like a one inch box spring that is made and sits then on top the crates if you will, then your mattress sits on top the box spring. We haven't had a problem since. Love you're van the soft colors and not cluttered just pretty and simple. Also you are the first 2 that I have seen ever talk about moisture issues with a bed. So I know a lot of others will take away from this video. 👍😃

Another campervan which i found used only 1 area/side for kitchen. Shower and closet. Very neat and tidy. Love this idea. The door at the driver area was so good. Love love love.

Best design I have seen. I must have a bathroom with a shower and toilet and their bathroom is great. Love the kitchen area and use of electric appliances. They avoid the usual clutter and overstuffed drawers and cabinets you often see. It looks absolutely great.

She touched on something I’ve always wondered about: water taste. How does it taste being stored in the plastic, then being run through plastic pipes?
Yes, be mindful of what can be in your water
Most new homes use plastic pex plumbing, and even if copper in the home, the city almost always uses plastic
Berkeys are amazing and well worth the investment of space and money.
yes a 1 micron filter is necessary to filter our the plastic
I always like this minimalist design. Very sleek. And i like the color combination of the interior (white, beige, light gray). Though you might wonder how come it’s very spacious but when try to check all the spaces for the things are hidden in lockers/drawers. They really maximized these small spaces to be able to have a spacious “bedroom/kitchen/dining/whatever!”👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I really like this layout. I love the closet in the drawers next to bed and doggie space. I also love that with the windows you can see outside and feel like you being in nature. Most people seal all those up. I really enjoyed build design.

The Mercedes Sprinter seems to be the van of choice for those who have the money. Its a good base to start from with decent space and head room.

How refreshing to see a nice clean build, with smart, minimalistic design, not STUFFED FULL TO THE BRIM with STUFF. When people stuff their van to the max, it feels claustrophobic and gives me massive anxiety, and feels like they missed the entire point of VanLife.

Its rare to see a decent van tour that has a shower and plenty of storage. I really appreciate this build and I will use it as a reference for my upcoming build.
This couple is just amazing! They lived near me and I'm glad to have helped them do my part in purchasing some of their home items so they could have the funds for their hike in CA. Their lounge chair is still doing great on my back deck 😊.

This is by far the best plan I’ve seen. The only suggestion I have would be to mount the cook top permanently in the drawer so all you’d have to do is pull out the drawer to use.
That is a beautiful conversion. I would absolutely have a ball in that traveling with my puppy. You have all-around comfort etc.... Hopefully you got all will be able to convert over to lithium soon. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and your upcoming puppy.
