When your sleep schedule is already f-ed up

1- its tough, ur body gets tired from all the flights and the germs around you
2- so many sleepless nights because of different timezones
3- you get sick from flying just like you get carsick (dizzy, nauseous, etc.)
4- commuting is so hard, it takes way too much time
5- its hard to be in a relationship when you're a flight attendant
I’ve been flying for 15 years now and after a year of flying your body adapts to it. I got sick a lot in the beginning, but now I haven’t even had a cold in 5 years.
In some countries the time that you are allowed to fly is regulated by the government. In some countries you can´t fly more than 90 hours a month due the health issues flying can cause.

I too was about 10-12 yrs old when I decided I wanted to be a FA. Don't give up your dream BUT you need to go to college first. Ive been flying for 40yrs now. It's difficult in the beginning but stick with it. SO worth it! Good luck🛩

@@cynthiaprim5936 you ALWAYS want something to fall back on. This job isn't for everyone. I honestly believe when I was hired it was because I had a degree and a 2nd language.
Even though all of this was said I still find myself loving a Flight attendants drive to have such a high tolerance for dealing with certain issues. I looked at that and said, "I wanna be just like that! I wanna accomplish so much like what they have." It's literally my dream career and yes I think about the hotels and the traveling and stuff because I love experiencing new things and new places. But most of all, I love helping people I really do and not only have I known about these but I've trained my body and mind to wake up without an alarm and I'd always wake up at either 4:32 am or 5:15 am. I'm really prepared to make any sacrifice to make myself become a great FA.💕

I am a single mom of a 7 year old who I have had the luxury of being able to stay at home with until recently and this has always been a dream of mine. Oh no! I hope you found out in time that in the US this is completely unnecessary. When an airline hires you they will train you for their specific airline. I hope you are are to save your time and money.
I started my career in 1995 with Northwest Airlines in which years later we merged with Delta Airlines.
The one thing that I remember til this day was my instructor saying to us that this job is not just a career, it's a Lifestyle!!!!
It's not for everyone! But for those who really enjoy traveling and people.
Its not your normal 9 to 5 job simply because you may work a flight from Atlanta to Tokyo and it can take 14 to 15 hours. But you do get breaks and even a crew bunk to rest.
There many perks and fantastic pay. You can literally make over 6 figures depending on your flexibility.
You have your good times and bad times as well simply due to the nature of your flight, weather or mechanical delays, emergencies, and passenger issues, but it's all apart of the job and initial training and recurring training throughout the year keeps you grounded and on top of things.
Now as a new Flight Attendant on the line, your just that, a newbe and you must pay your dues so to speak because our industry is seniority driven. The more years, the more power to pick and chose trips and days off, i.e, holidays.
I paid my dues and still paying them, but I wouldn't change this career for nothing in the world.
I've been bless and still bless to travel the world, meet so many people, and learn different cultures and customs.
I love service and enjoy representing myself as a Christian and the brand of my airline.
Do we sometimes have problems, oh Yes, do we sometimes disagree with mgmnt , yes, but we still have a job to do. And this pays for our mortgage or car notes or many other things in life.
Training, we'll all I have to say is that every single thing they're teaching you, you need to KNOW!!
Take note of that.
Training is for a reason.
It's for your survival!
It's for the representation of your airline and its for your crew.
I'm over 27 years and counting and I'm still very much in love with my job
You obviously have to have a high stress level tolerance, to handle this career, for sure! Most young folks think only, glamour, whoa! fun, break parties? .... in a travel career! .... Very important, smart sharing!

I am thinking about becoming a flight attendant. I have flown a few times before, and I love flying. I love the feeling of taking off and landing, and I just love flying in general, and I think it would be cool to be able to travel around the country. My in-law works with Delta and she’s said flight attendants often miscarriage when in first trimester because of flying frequently. So delta allows attendants to take leave from as soon as they know they are preggers.

That’s not true. At all. I’m a flight attendant.
It varies by person but I definitely miscarried at 9 weeks (6 year FA) then became pregnant again, went on leave immediately- now my son is healthy & 3 months old. Don’t know if it was radiation from flying or just not my time, but it’s something to think about.

You just don’t just take a gap year and travel as a flight attendant!! The process is quite long and very selective!! This is a professional position!!

Wondering when you are a commuter, are all your flights ones where you are flying and staying in hotels on the company dollar or could you be flying a few legs a day and then flown back to your base and you have to pay for hotel accommodations to report back the next day?

@aspire to be the change, you will work just about every weekend and holiday for a long time, unless you are at a junior base. The best place and time to start working as a flight attendant is when hiring starts so the classes behind you move you up in seniority.
Probation is 6 months unless you do something that causes Delta to extend that, such as not commute into your base in time for your shift. The easiest way to deal with probation is to think of it as an introductory period between you and your employer. They are getting to know you and you are getting to know them.
I worked retail for many years. So I worked about any shift ,weekends and holidays. The first thing out of most newly hires was do I have to work Weekends and holidays? We had a good HR ,her answer was next please.
i want to become a flight attendant my aunt was one and she quit BUT she did get sick like even now she gets her ‘vertigo’ . that’s the only thing i’m worried about is getting sick

I have a question for you in regards to the commuter flights that you would use when commuting to your "home airport" where you would always fly out of for work: I am assuming the company pays for them for you? Or do you book your own and are on standby? Is getting home from the airport, when you return, the same situation?

No the airline does not pay for your commuter flight. You fly standby for free.

You all are beautiful, how can we men, acknowledge you, and show true appreciation for the job you do, with out offence? In other words, show support for all your hard work. We as customers I think,
tend to forget some time that you are human too.
The relationship part is a challenge for pilots and flight attendants, being away from family and partners for potentially long periods of time. Finding a partner capable of living and operating alone for long stretches can be difficult for them. But it can work, I’m one of those people and I’m content when he’s out flying and when he’s home. But it’s also the rolling rosters, they will regularly work weekends and holidays and have random weekdays off. They will fly any time of the day or night cycle and it’s seldom the same hours each week. And it’ll help if you as the partner have some natural interest and/or understanding of flight and aviation because flying is a huge part of who they are and they’ll want to tell you about it.
I feel these things are important to know for anyone considering dating a flight attendant or airline pilot. They will miss birthdays and whatnot, it might be hard for them to get specific things like weekends free, they will spend hours out of contact and will be gone for long periods of time. Granted there’s huge differences depending on the airline, long or short haul flights or for cargo pilots but either way if you’re not comfortable living alone you’ll have problems with a flight attendant or pilot partner. It’s probably related to how so many hook up with each other. Crossover with ground crew is less common but it has a similar effect with me. I generally like aviation and I understand enough of his job that I’m not going to give him a hard time if we agree to meet up at around 2am because that’s when my shift ends and he’s due to land but poor weather means he’s been in the air longer and I have to wait. But similarly he’s not going to give me difficulty if I’m the one that’s late because delays mean I’m having to stay on overtime at the end of the shift to get that last plane pushed.
But finally our former flight attendant here wasn’t kidding about the exhaustion! I can’t tell you how real that is! Oh the number of times my partner has gotten to my place, has a snack and then just passes out on the bed and doesn’t move an inch for the next 7-10 hours. And then for the first of the three days off before the next five flying he’s basically still recovering. And I’m no different in that regard. I do 12 hour shifts, four days on, four days off and the work is fairly physically demanding so I regularly end up the same. See what I mean about understanding each other? It helps.

I've worked as a FA with several carriers and in the training I had, the initial trainers told us about some of the problems you might have as a result of the time changes, eating odd hours ect. They told us that what we saw the FAs working the flight was what you would be doing on your flights. They said that if this was not what you thought the job was, that to do yourself a favor and quit now. The job will not radically change and you will be happier doing something else. We did have someone in our class quite because he thought the job was different. The FA job is very demanding both physically and mentally. It is not for everyone. I talked to FAs on flights before I applied. Some hated the job and some hated the job. At lease to tried and found the job was not for you.
I feel like I have so much free time as a FA, I just wanted to be a flight attendant to get away from all my problems and I didn’t want to much responsibility in my daily life, all I have to do is keep up with my body, work, make friends, get good sleep.

Idc what anyone says unless you’re right out of highschool are in your early 20s this is a career I probably wouldn’t advise starting unless u have no baggage or need a job because this young lady isn’t lying and the salary it’s not like it use to be back in the day.

You only need a high school diploma, they will put you through 3-6 weeks worth of training and customer service is recommended I believe.

Definitely not
Nope unless your the Flash and is incredibly smart (Which I don't doubt you are) It won't work out. It also depends what college you go to and what you are studying for in the future. Being a Flight attendant is really hard on you have so many flights to do that you might even Miss Classes. If you already have sleepless Nights studying then You won't have fun being a Flight attendant. Best thing you can Do is wait until you graduate.
