Actuallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy (Gekko/Sova main here, can play Reyna and Yoru kind of decently... ends up making my playstyle kinda goofy since I'm an initiator that plays like a duelist)
This omen's advice is what all woohoojin watchers want to hear "you want me to critique your strats but your strats are great- It's your bad teamates and you're not high enough rated to play the way you're playing, you just aren't focused on gunfights enough."
So in the intro to the vod review you mentioned the concept of stopping power which reminded me of a video by a guy named AnderzTV who used to be on Fnatics coaching staff. The premise of the video was how in game design they create roles/classes for characters around things like Crowd Control, Vision Denial, economic efficiency, Damage, Healing etc and how each agent can essentially be given an arbitrary score which can obviously inform decisions when designing a team composition. I think you've may have touched on this concept or mentioned the video before but that video really helped me. I don't know if Lothar (DRX analyst) has updated it for the current patch but he used to have an excel spreadsheet where he kind of rated each agents and then had similar descriptions on how to optimally play them for example rating them on their dependency to ult orbs with or how important their use of vision denial is.
This is so me. I can accurately call out where people are because its so simple, but I can't convert the fights I know are there. Then I lose so much mental when I call out for my teammates, and they don't believe me only to die to that guy. Looking back at all the fights I took, I see how noob like the enemy is, how bad they are, but I'm just worse, then my team is even worse than me.
I may be a bronze potato, but this potassium is laying dormant in the unused parts of my brain for when it will gloriously rise up like a Phoenix in my moment of need. Thank you, Hooj

As a self proclaimed "minimap connoisseur", I have this problem because most of my ranked games in high gold/low plat have people who will not turn on their mics and act like I'm muted when I make comms. One guy even said, "Yo can you shut up? I've played riot games for thousands of hours and I'll tell you right now Valorant is not a team game. It never has been.". Stuff like that just blows my mind mid comp and I feel like I have no choice but to take in any opportunity for information possible. I keep the important callouts in chat setting on to get some calls at least. Obviously this is not optimal as I have to constantly take my eyes away from where they should be to read/interpret and it has gotten me killed many times. I just don't know how to avoid it because not having the comm/info has gotten me killed/lost the round more times. The less info I have, the slower I have to play.
It's 2v2 and I'm on defense, spike rush planted B on Ascent. My teammate is lurking mid for the A-faker rotate. I get into a gunfight on site and while I'm fighting my teammate dies. I get my 1 and then.... crickets. Was last top-mid and I should just stick? Was last market and I can half? Was last CT so I can take my attention away from main for a little? Nothing, now I'm wasting what could be a free round holding an angle and giving last time to get into position for pushing me. This situation is entirely too common so it's very hard to break this habit (in my elo).
Just now did i realise how much im focusing on gaining info and trying to play around team so im not focused... I knew i had trouble with focus mid round and now i know why, the only reason im higher ranked than him is that im just better mechanicaly subconciously (i was wondering why once i could compete at radiant level and then i went 2/13 in asc lobbies and i was especially poppin on unrated (i saw before im playing vs radiant same agent but still could win almost every gunfight)) That also explains why i did better with teamwork in immortal lobbies (comp)
Been watching Hooj and following his tips has made the game so much more fun for me even though I haven't climbed up from P3 after reaching diamond once I like that I somewhat understand the game now. I'd improve if VOD reviewing myself wasn't so embarassing for me lmao. I'm gunning for Immortal this act though
VOD reviewing is kinda emberassing lol, but once you get past that barrier you can actually learn so much from it. And if you think about it, hooj not only coaches Val but he teaches how to VOD review too.
Hooj I have question. For low elo coaching, I've duoed with my firends a lot in the past on my account but now play only solo queue. I doubt I'll ever reach the 90% solo queue requirement. Could I petition for the requirement to be changed to 90% solo queue in the past 20 games instead if the great Hooj is willing? Thank you for your consideration wise banana.
I kid you not, Hooj said "are you this guy, sniffing your monitor?" and so I went into comp and I started sniffing my monitor - R1 I got a 3k, R2 I only saw one and my team killed the rest, and on our bonus I aced. Easiest match MVP of my life, turns out being absurdly close to your monitor makes it really easy to shoot
any tips for how to stop excessively looking at minimap? ive been trying to make the habit of only looking when i can't shoot, but i tend to catch myself checking it sometimes when im supposed to be holding an angle. i think it's a habit from league lol.
It’s what makes diamond so funny. There’s some players who understand the map and how it flows 5v5 but have the mechs of a silver. And not the good head tapping silvers, the instacrouch silvers. I’m diamond too and my mechs are okayish but I definitely don’t have the kinda macro a lot of these smoke players seem to develop. It makes sense that a controller becomes good at macro though, it’s necessary for the role as much as mechs directly scale up the value of a duelist.
day 11 of thanking woohoojin for his content (Aim training 11/90) So today I realized that I could play with just my mouth on my desk, without a mouse pad. So I did that for Aim training and I beat or tied all my records, proving once and for all that my mouse pad is partly the cause of my bad aim.
I don't know how to get out of silver. 9/10 games I drop over 30 k with 2+ KD with a perfect tracker score. I'm matched up in silver-bronze lobbies (sometimes even iron) and they usually don't even have mics let alone good comms. I also have decent aim and crosshair placement and I often try to play with my team. So any tips that might help me get out of silver.
@@PracticalPotato I play with my team almost always. It's just that I can't get them to coordinate with me properly. Say for example when trying to enter site, I may ask for flash or stun. The teammates either do it too late or don't do it all. Most of the time they can't even trade me. I just finished a match on lotus and was about to win OT, Cypher and me were playing tree I got 2k and we also got spike down and almost the third kill 2 (I tagged raze 120). I did all of this while cypher was camping in the corner behind the trunk and did nothing with his odin and died afterwards. Hey man, thanks for calling out the exact reason i went from 2 MVPs as omen to 9th and 10th as omen literally yesterday then back to MVP in DM, now please get tf out of my walls 😭😭💀💀
I got very sad when you talked about omen looking at minimap instead of holding for possible Jett, I can't tell you how many times I've died because I'm looking somewhere on the left side of the screen, either at minimap or at voice chat comms to see who's talking. 2:38 dang bro is calling out the whole round, is that a good thing or a bad thing? I think it could go both ways, if you call it one side I also want to see what you think the other side might say. (So if you say it's good you should also say what could make it bad.)
I’d say play “default contact”, and if I’m playing breach or omen I’d call where I’m stunning and flashing but not smokes and whatever my teammates should be doing. But if I want my sage to not do the default wall since I’m flashing close right B on split, I’d call that too.
That round 1 idea the banana man made up has to be communicated preround. I would be pissed if I was the jett/reyna pushing with those selfish smokes if my omen didn't say anything. Also he is being sloppy with the smokes by running without stopping to hit the smoke button. So many randoms leave gaps (like he did on heaven R1) because they rush them out. Take your time and build up the tempo when you know how to smoke properly.
