Did you know that in this ep, young su is voiced by the same person who voiced Toph IN ATLA and young lin is voiced by the same actress who voiced azula who also voiced ming hua
true, but then when that person comes forward and asks to make amends, you refuse and stay angry? when one side is willing to talk through the issue and the other chooses to stay mad at an idea of a person who no longer exists, thats on the person who is staying mad. Su has changed, she is definitively not the same person she was when she and Lin fought, literally decades have passed and she is angry with the teenager who scarred her face, ignoring the fact that Su is different. (as lin said in the video, "maybe you can fool everyone else but you can't fool me") Lin was in denial about Su, everyone else can see she is different but Lin still sees the Teenage rebel.
@@speedy01247 the way you just phrased "thats on the person who is staying mad" made it sound like su's entitled for forgiveness just to make her conscience clear, not actually being sorry for the pain she caused and, she IS still the "teenage rebel". her experiences became additive to who she is, but once you did something in the past, you're still potentially capable of doing it (su went on lin's back to ask korra to drag aiwei's ass back to zaofu). this identity argument is the ship of theseus, and spoilers: it's the same ship. and yes, it's the same su. the main reason why lin is mad to begin with in zaofu is that su is trying to make amends while sounding like she's on the high road (which is a very bad way to apologize) if we're strictly on the concept of forgiveness irl here, you are allowed to not forgive someone when you have a legitimate reason to be angry with, and you can also accept that there are people who just isn't forgiving on the get go. it's always on the wronged one who has the final say, no matter how severe it is.
@@speedy01247 Spoilers: I mean Su is still that rash and allergic to responsibility kid from her youth as seen in season 4. The earth kingdom was falling apart, she was the leader of the most advanced civilisation in the world(or at the very least the earth kingdom), she could have filled the power vacuum left behind by the fallen earth queen. She did not want to carry that RESPONSIBILITY, and then got surprised pikachu face when a tyrant stepped up. When Kuvira was at her doorstep, suddenly and rashly she jumped into action to conduct an assassination attempt, even tho she knew that would essentially green light Kuvira's full on invasion. Not saying Kuvira wouldn't have done it anyway, not saying that Kuvira didn't just basically baited Su into it, however optics effing matter in politics. She grew more than Lin thought of her, sure, but definitely not as much as Su thought of herself
That Su burn at the end, "No wonder Tenzin ended things with you years ago!!", them is fighting words, siblings know how to push each others buttons, which is why at times they infuriate us. Every reactor had your response to that scene. Its like its on now, after that, fight!!, fight!!. LOL.
For anyone who is a bit underwhelmed by Lin’s memories. I always took the arest and cover up as the straw that broke the camel’s back. It’s not day in so many words but are implications that Lin had to deal with a lot of Su’s crap while Lin was a child herself. Parentification is not as will recognized by our society as a form of child abuse or mistreatment. This is especially true when applied to girls/young women. This does seem to be the implications for Lin. Furthermore this explains why Toph and Su struggle to fully empathize with Lin. They have a hard time seeing what she really went though. Lin is still hurting after all those years but has a hard time explaining it to anyone because individual incidents seem less serious. It’s the whole picture. Her whole childhood raising Su only to get undermined and derided for it.
that doesn't change the fact that she chose to stay mad, rather then work things out, yeah I think Su pushed Lin in this and the previous episode, but it was cause she wanted to mend the relationship.
@@speedy01247actually that anger still being present in her older age is quite accurate of what it’s like growing up as an adult who went through parentification. Most people go through it and it is never addressed until they are much older and come to the realization that they wasted their childhood/youth away from being a constant “adult”.
@@speedy01247 why is it on lin to work it out and not toph and Su???... Why does lin have to go meet them.. They need to go meet her nd apologize to her not the other way around wtf
@@speedy01247 It's pretty realistic and relatable tbh. Obviously, it's ideal if people just let go of their feelings completely and make up with whoever they're fighting with, but that's not easy. A lot of people tend to hold onto their anger and hurt for years and years.
I just realized something, Lin fought her sister while she was sick/drained and they were both on equal ground. So Technically, Lin is stronger than her sister.
A lot of people be like oh Su Yin did apologize, she even squared it away with Toph and both of them tried to reach out, she was a kid, kids do stupid shit and a lot of time has passed, everybody can change and Su is a different person now. I can't judge how hard she and Toph tried to mend their relationship with Lin since it wasn't shown to us, so i can't make judgements there. What i can judge is everything i was shown, 1. Lin chose not to leave the air ship, if i was Su i'd understand why she did that(she's still hurt and angry even if kinda petty) someone with empathy(i think at least) would have either let her be, or better yet asked Korra to ask Lin to come out and meet her and not just pull up like its a got dang intervention and the first thing she said was not how are you or sorry but, "after 30 years the least YOU could do is say hello" like she didn't know why she didn't want to say hello in the first place. 2. When Korra asked why the bad blood she minimized all her shortcomings and mistakes, and just said, well we didn't know our dads, mom was always busy and gave us to much freedom, we fought for mom's attention and while Lin followed in mom's footsteps while I(Su) was more of a rebel and left home at 16 to travel the world....continued to tell stories of her accomplishments. I understand not wanting to air family's dirty laundry, but i would think someone with remorse of how they hurt their sibling would own up to their actions a bit more, like i hurt her(Lin) when i was younger or something like that. 3. Lin shows up to their sibling showdown, venting/ranting about Su's old mistakes and rather than attempting to be empathetic she just brushes it off with "the past is just the past" argument, throw in her attempt to reconcile in the past and the cherry on top was shade on how her relationship ended with Tenzin. I understand the need for Lin to let shit go, i mean that much anger is not good on anybody and people need to move on, but people be acting like Su only ever screwed up in the past and is completely good now while painting Lin like a petty psycho who couldn't let the past go.
Just because you apologise, doesn't mean they have to forgive you either. Katara never forgave yonran, though thankfully she was able to move on for her own sake. I'm glad Lin does too, but I wish they hadn't made it seem like their fractured relationship was her fault. Suyin never tried to earn her sister's trust the way Zuko did. I thought the writers would write it with that in mind.
How she justifies Varrick is also very telling: "Yes, he made some mistakes, but should he pay for them for the rest of his life?" 1. Bomb a building, try to stir a civil war and kidnap the President aren't some 'mistakes' he was very deliberate. 2. He didn't pay AT ALL, he escaped in less than a week, from a very comfortable cell.
I see this argument far more than the imaginary counter-argument you tried to refute. the problem with what you're saying is that is completely minimizes any pain and resentment Su might have felt and accumulated over the years, not having her sister around. ESPECIALLY when she has tried to reach out to mend things and been shut down. Su expressed to Korra that Lin was the only thing missing from her life and how much it pained her that they were estranged. These are grown ass women in their fifties. It takes two to meet at the table and reconcile and Lin wouldn't. So she is at fault, period. Your argument is majorly biased in favor of Lin because we have known her longer.
Thank you! You said it better than I could. Yes, Lin should have let it go as years went on, but Su was NOT owning up to her mistakes and gave half-assed apologizes. This is why I dislike her, and why "the past is just the past" argument is such BS.
Hands down the best season with the first coming second. The other two season I only like certain episodes. Can’t wait for the Netflix series to come out 😭
What i love about Zahi is his typical good guy traits. Wise, Uses air bending, His philosophies are all about freedom and shit, and Has a wholesome loving relationship.
