The LA Deere looks akin to a Cub Farmall...just the ticket for gardening or truck farming. The neighbors brought a container of strawberries up. Just the ticket for dessert or adding to a bowl of cereal.
You run what you have to work with. Older barns were built originally for loose hay, but easily were adapted to small squares. I was never in better shape than when I was handling 10k square bales each year. Twice to get em in the barn and again to feed them! Great video, Bill. Keeping the old iron employed!
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 I am waiting for you to show the magic mystery cure for hydraulic oil leaking around the bottom of the housing of 40 Series JD, esp the 2840. The oem seals just don't do it. 👍
I learn something new every video! Thank you! I helped on the farm when I was a kid. Simple things. Pulling wagons in and picking rocks were among my tasks. I never really got to learn more in depth. We don’t farm anymore. We rent it to Mennonite’s. But still have some tractors and equipment. So this is really cool to see how things work.
I was a La and L junkie. I had 2 L's and 3 LA's. Knew every nut and bolt. Fixed a many a one for customers over the years. That little tractor will pull a farmall cub backwards all day. Glad to see you still have the original throttle setup.
Good show ! LA reminds me of ours that we still use to cultivate the pumpkins. Does the same thing to you, get a little to high a gear and you can start it again. Guess I should fashion myself up one of them there custom choke rods!
I realize there are reasons for round baling, large square baling and small square baling but I can’t comprehend when you see small squares to be dropped on the ground and picking them up later. Like you said put them in a wagon and they leave the field when you do. Also ground compaction is a big issue and why all the extra driving around the field picking them up. But to each his own.
Round bales have worked well for us for a while, but a lot of that has to do with the way you feed and where the fields are. We throw out a ring feeder in the pasture and let them go at it, we also have a bunch of small fields not all connected, so it is better to bring a loader tractor and the 1 ton dump truck than the baler, wagon extra pair of hands to stack and then drive the wagon home unload it then back to the field
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 That was the point everybody can find a system that works with their equipment, storage, feeding style, help, field proximity. I like seeing other ways work. Back 30 years or so we had a 336 and 24t with bale throwers and sided wagons, but things change.
South of Springfield IL, since 1:00 pm we have gotten 5 inches of rain. 8:30 pm now. Love the old green. What did you put under the strawberries to keep the wagon bed from rotting?
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 thank you. Thought maybe it was tin or metal of some kind. And yeh, gonna be some replanting for the neighbors. We have nothing in yet.
Thanks for the vintage iron. Kills the new computer crap.
Mr Bill great videos have a bless day 👍👍

Thanks to The Lord, someday that LA will have a rebuilt starter. Excellent video.

Thanks Jimmy, always a pleasure to hear from you!
Saw that splash of gas on the hood. Now you'll have to re-wax it.

Wow, my wife makes a great strawberry pie, but cobbler is a new one on me!

Hey Bradley! Glad you got a system that works for you. We always had help and extra wagons.

I see you musta learned not to wrap your thumb around the crank handle! I did! the hard way!
😃😃😃😃😃!
Lots of respect for you but I think I stick with my little red tractors for the garden 😂
HaHa, yeah those "little red tractors" are a little more refined than this old JD.😁
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 i saw a LA at a show and they are neat. Those little JD 40s look like they would make good garden tractors also
The strawberry patch IS NOT safe,,lol.
A friend of mine had all three of L series don't know if his wife still has them

Hey Dan, hope the rain doesn't make too big of a mess.
On the wagon floors, been a long time, one is a plate of 1/4" steel, the newer one is old 2X 10 treated planking from a demolished pier.

LA sounded good. How much HP in those tractors?
An Earth-shattering 14 HP. 😳
Just enough. 😂
